The LAST Putting Lesson You Will Ever Need - 3 Simple Tips

  • I've lost count of the number of times I've heard amateur golfers say
"my putting isn't great but don't worry Danny I will sort it, let's concentrate on driver today"
But do you know what...they never do. Months and years pass by and they are still missing short putts and struggling to control their distance.
    Does this sound familiar?
Don't worry I'm not judging you. I've spent a whole year doing the exact same thing ignoring my 5 second putting system and as result putted like a complete beginner.
What's crazy is I used to have a reputation of being one of the best putters on the planet.
But that was before I got lazy.
Years ago my childhood coach gave me a simple 5 step system to follow and I did it religiously. It almost guaranteed a perfect putting stroke every time. I wouldn't hole every putt of course, but it was super rare to see me miss a short putt and I'd almost never 3 putt.
Fast forward to today and the wand is back in the good books. I'm being disciplined and following my childhood system every time.
There are no short cuts in life, if you want to get good at anything you have to put in the work but If you want the results to come to you a little quicker it does help to follow a proven system.
This is mine. I hope it helps you too 👉 • The LAST Putting Lesso...

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On UA-cam and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Will be ‘putting’ this into practice over the summer break ready for the new year of golf. Merry Christmas from Aus and keep up the great work.

Great video Danny! The thing i struggle the most is figuring out how to adjust the distance when a putt is uphill/downhill. My distance on a flat putt is usually "ok" (within a foot/foot and half) but as soon as i've got the same distance with a bit of an uphill, i very often fail to adjust, leaving the putt 5 foot short, or blasting it past the hole. Would love to see tips on how to gauge the slope and adjust the stroke length/speed accordingly. Unless it's all a matter of feel!

    • @lazyaznmofo17
      @lazyaznmofo17 9 місяців тому

If it's a slow ish group, take a walk and circle around the ball and pin, this will allow you to see the slope from all angles. And it is just on feel as most public courses in your area will have very varying greens that need a different touch. Make sure to use the practice green and not just the range prior to a round

Listened to Cam Smith after he won The Open. He sorted his "bad" putting Saturday to great putting Sunday with a short mirror session. I purchased a mirror. Like you showed I had the ball way to far forward which not only affected my strike but my alignment adversely. For me it worked out that I had the bridge of my nose over the ball for proper alignment and strike. It felt really weird to start but as more putts fell. No longer weird.

This is very good advice for most people. It’s a typical modern setup, and stroke. However, I changed something one day, and had the best putting day of my life. 23 total putts, for a -7(65). I had been struggling to make putts, so I set up like Jack Nicklaus almost as a joke, on the first hole. Feet close together, and feet very open to target. From there, I just sorta pushed the ball onto my start line. The results were amazing. 13 one-putts(some for par). I don’t recommend this for everyone, but it not only allowed me to see my line better, but it also allowed me to start the ball exactly on that line. I’ve since gotten away from it, and have been struggling again. I think I’ll go back to that weird way of putting, and see what happens. lol

like the 1,2,3,4 sequence - I’ve had good results on distance control with lag putts with making the look back from the target to the ball, and the backswing, into one motion - effectively merging the 2 and 3 of your sequence into one. I don’t do it all the time, but one to try

Great Putting Tip Danny! I'm like you! For the past year, my putting has been in a slump! Far too many 3 putts and sometime, I hate to admit a 4 putt! I have always used a palm grip with the left hand and not so much with the right hand. I try to use a consistent light grip and an upright shaft angle matching the forearms. I'm not missing the putts by far, but I'm still missing them. I'll wager that my putting is costing me upwards to 10 strokes a round. I really feel that the problem is being caused in in take away. Anyway, good video Danny! Keep up the good work!

Great lesson as always Danny. My biggest problem is distance control. Nothing more frustrating than having a perfect line and coming up short

Great video as always! I don't see a practice guide link on this one though and I don't find one in the list on your website. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Hi Danny, great one ! You should do more video's on putting (as it is 40% of all shots)

Holy, level shoulders helped right away!! Now going down the rabbit hole is grip selection lol

Cross grip seems to work for me on short putts…now not sure if I use standard grip for longer putts and cross for shorter

Great video! My putting was the best part of my game but has slipped lately. Tried this on my last round and had great results. Now I just do the routine (my posture was definitely bad) I changed it from 1-2-3-4 to 1-2-3-center of putter and my stroke is much freer and my contact better. I realize now I was spending too much time over the ball and thinking too much about my stroke. You are the best! PS If you are ever in the part of the world with Bermuda grass, would love to see tips on how to pitch/chip from it....

That swivel of the neck to look down the line of the putt, both before but especially after impact is not given the exposure it deserves. Olazabal has always been a master at it.

Great advice as always, BUT, if I may make so bold, I can't agree with the comment about "reading" the putt sideways. Surely it's better to stand or squat behind the ball, look for the line with binocular vision, choose a spot within your peripheral vision when addressing the ball and roll the ball over that spot. Everything else in the videos is absolutely spot on. I just don't think you can line up a putt looking at it sideways.

Yes what I meant by that was it’s easier to visualise the ball going in from there 😁

Still and besides what you explain well, I hv problems with what grip should I use in order to keep my wrists straight. Not to open nor close them. Any tip for that ?

Another fine video and tips. Nice routine. I've seen some looking at the target as they stroke the ball vs looking down at the ball, any thoughts? Thanks

@@DanielMaude I've found that in general I do better looking at the target as I strike. I think one of the things it helps we with is judging the energy needed to cover the distance ball to hole. Thanks. Always enjoy your tips

Danny, I appreciate the tips on keeping the head over the ball. A problem that I am having with putting right now is maybe 5 out 10 putts are rimming around and out of the hole. I am not over hitting the ball. Or at least not in my feelings

Here is a tip from pool I use to put to piggy back off of center of the ball (billiards) over your gaze like you said.
Figure out which is your dominant eye. Make a diamond with your hand to just cover everything except a round object in the distance. Now close your left eye and then your right eye. The eye that keep the ball in view is your dominant eye.
Now, put that eye over the ball, not your nose nor so it seems to be in the middle. Dominant eye then open both. You will now aim where you meant to and hitting it more square.

N.P. I was just scouring if there were any techniques or strategies to incorporate this and actually came across the old school plumb bobbing technique. I haven't tried it out yet, but I will report back.
Also, I tried to exaggerate rounding my shoulders more like you said and I found my pendulum to feel more consistent. I typically always pinched my shoulders blades together without noticing. Awesome tip I did not even know I needed! @@DanielMaude
