Doc installs his 4th Blink camera system and this time he upgrades to the new Outdoors version. It is a much improved system over the old XT2.
Blink Outdoor is a wireless battery-powered HD security camera that helps you monitor your home day or night with infrared night vision. With long-lasting battery life, Outdoor runs for up to two years on two AA lithium batteries (included). Outdoor is built to withstand the elements to help you protect your home inside or out, come rain or shine. Get motion detection alerts on your phone with the option to customize motion zones in the Blink Home Monitor app so you’re only alerted when you need to be. See, hear, and speak to visitors with live view in real time and two-way audio features on your Blink app. Designed so you can set up yourself in minutes. No wiring, no professional installation required. Works with Alexa - use your voice to monitor your home through supported Alexa-enabled devices. Store video clips and photos in the cloud with the Blink Subscription Plan and save events locally to the Blink Sync Module 2 via a USB flash drive (sold separately).

Great video Doc. I really appreciate the information about the silicone covers and the swivel mounts. I think that adds a lot to the system. As you discussed, it’s amazingly easy to set up. When you do the grid feature, it even has an advanced feature you can go into and be even more selective with how you set zones. And it has privacy zones and activity zones. Just really good stuff all the way around. Another little tip: I use a Google voice free phone number, where you can link different cell phones to it. So I was able to link my wife’s cell
and my cell phone to our Google voice number, and I used that number for the system. So now we actually both get the alerts if something happens. I’m not sure how many phones that would work with, but it definitely works with two!!
Thanks again for this video. Great stuff.

By the way, the little plastic flathead thing for undoing the back also works as a joint to make the cameras capable of a 90 degree turn. It took me a minute to figure it out. I was like, "Why the hell do I need 5 of these things?"

I love my Blink system. I have the XT2. Just letting you know that I can gray out the areas I don’t want in motion as well. It’s really cool. If you click on advanced it zooms in and you can gray out in a tighter area.

I had a notification whilst away at work, looking on liveview I saw a stressed paramedic banging on the windows and doors of my house, I rang the emergency line to tell them they had the wrong house as nobody was home, luckily the controller was able to call the paramedic, and stop him calling the police to break entry into my house, I like to think they made it to the correct address of the emergency caller to help them in time.

Thank for an informative video on these inexpensive security cams 👍
No link to those covers or extenders. 😉
I have had my old system for about three years. Just bought 4 of the solar powered cameras from Costco @ 2 for $150. No need any longer for those energizer lithiums as the mount has its own lithium ion battery that charges from solar. Nice compact setup but does need to be mounted in a sunny area. Although the panel is detachable and can be mounted a short distance away for sun.
That motion area block on the app didn’t perform well on the older cams and still triggered recordings so I’m hoping they fixed that issue. Also the new version allows an even finer grid blocking to prevent triggering.
Mounting on a tree as you found out will cause multiple triggers if there is wind. Okay for simple viewing but not for motion detection.
I got approximately 6-9 months life on the older cams batteries with normal use. Now with the solar setup I did not install the supplied batteries. They would be needed if there was no sun for a long extended time for backup power thou.
The 18650 lithium ion battery in the solar case is pretty powerful (I have several tact lights that use the same battery) and also easily replaceable in the future.
I have grandfathered free cloud storage as a legacy member. I would be invaluable if you hadn’t had a chance to down load video and had cams and module storage stolen in a break in.
Bandits are sometime pretty savvy on simple systems. So hiding the inside blink module or “brain” out of sight may be helpful.

What I was told by the tech at Blink was that you can’t mass delete local storage and as someone using it for a remote AirBnb this is very inconvenient and pushes you to use cloud storage. Vs the xt2 that is auto re-recording for you and you can easily safe a clip to your photo album on your phone.
The internal chip set and camera tech is exactly the same.

i just installed the new outdoor camera and timing was perfect. i had a UPS delivery coming later that day. i received an alert from the app that the camera had detected motion. a few seconds later i looked at the clip and to my amazement, i watched 10 seconds of absolutely nothing. the response time between the motion alert and the camera starting to record was so long that the UPS driver had dropped off the package and left. i looked for the package, it wasn't there went and did other things and got the alert. went to the front door and my package was there. any ideas on how to fix this?

I've got a bunch of the XT2's and I just can't get behind these new cameras. I get why they had to drop off free cloud storage, but they need to make the way you view footage better with these new ones. My understanding is that after 24 hours they load to the SD card and you can only view them on your computer by removing the card. Just silly.

Hi, we have the same system for our two homes. What I’m finding is the batteries only last about a month on each house. Am I doing something wrong? I do replace them with the correct batteries so it’s not that I’m using the wrong ones. Any tips would be appreciated regarding the battery life. Thanks in advance.

I'm worried about the camera being easily taken out of the Silicone cover and mounting system and stolen. You mentioned that the bracket screws right into the back of the Silicone cover, but not as to whether the bracket screws into the silicone cover and through it and into the screw grooves on the camera that the back cover screw screws into, thus, the bracket screw taking the place of the camera's back cover screw.

Don't see any of the links you said you'd post about accessories. I'm most interested in the plug in gadget holder for the module and wifi and camera extenders. Don't see the need for the camera holder as the cameras are weatherized already. Maybe for the shield to keep raindrops off the lens? Also wondered if the hood shrunk the coverage area.
