@@LennyFlorentine thank you. I was hoping it was going to be a follow up with more details or info on the Yamaha, like maybe a use review.
I have the RX-A4A for about a year now, coupled with an external A-S1100 for the fronts (all KEF R-speakers in a 5.0 setup, R11’s to provide bass effects), and the movie immersion is surreal, to say the least. It’s unbelievable how detailed the whole representation is.
Nice to be able to also look inside our units!
Dude, LOVE your videos, only one problem.......................we need MORE content !! YOUR Channel is awesome and would to see MORE "walks through the vintage storage" and see USEABLE history !! THANKS AGAIN !!
More is coming! We plan on keeping around 3 videos a week but we are also in the middle of some construction in the studio so we have had some delays. I do like the storage tour idea!
What a super fantastic show just Audio I like when you get a brand new amplifier & open it up to see what's inside brilliant 👍😁🤓🎩let's have more more more more a lot like this show 👍😁
I have the Yamaha AX900U integrated amp from 1988. It's a kick ass unit and it sounds great.
Hi, I bought the Yamaha V6A reciever about 2.5 months ago. Regarding the 4K120/8K60Hz capability. According to Yamaha, there was two batches made. The early batch required the hardware upgrade and software. Mine is from the late batch, and already has the upgraded hardware. There was a software update that just came out. So, according to Yamaha I'm all set.
As a side note for others with the V6A I'm running a 5.2 setup and using the other two channels from the other zone to bi-amp my Klipsch towers. That made a HUGE difference in sound quality!!!
Is VRR now working on Yamaha?
I am so excited to get on from this company. I waited almost a year to get one and it is finally coming.
My A6A arrived yesterday. The firmware update for gaming works perfectly. Vrr, allm, 120hz gaming. All work with my Xbox x and ps5
Very nice!!
Awesome Receiver! Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching!
My first receiver was a CR-2020, What a beautiful piece of kit
Very nicd!
The 4k/120Hz problem isn't just an issue if your game system can hit 120fps. It becomes a handicap as soon as your system can hit 61fps. Any gaming pc with a decent current gen midrange GPU can exceed 60fps at 4k. Higher end GPU's will cruise past 100fps. I don't know about the PS5 and Xbox, but I would assume they can exceed 60fps at 4k in some games as well depending on settings. So this isn't some off in the future issue, it is a problem now.
Yes this is a problem now, great input!
Yeah I am currently looking for a new receiver. I have a RTX 3080 that can push some games 100 fps in 4k. Worst case I send the video to my 77" LG C1 and the audio to the receiver.
Great vid! I'm stoked - likely to buy one of these.
Just a couple things...
1. No info about the V6A? That seems to be a middle ground... but is it substantially better than the V4A?
2. Apparently there are no audio or HDMI ports in the front of the unit? That can be annoying when wanting to plug in something like a laptop which isn't always connected (I guess one could leave a cable coiled up and connected to the back, but still...)
3. There's no composite video in, anyway, it seems. It would be nice to have at least one legacy analog video port. At least there are several audio ports. I guess for those of us with legacy equipment, we'd need a video>>HDMI adapter.
4. Have they addressed the 120Hz rate since this video?
Also, what about alternative brands, like Onkyo, Denon, Marantz?
Yes and those "vintage" units are about two times as heavy as todays "electronics" mainly due to the quality and long lasting power supplies which were used. They simply keep on running.
Many complaints about this current Aventage line not passing through Dolby Vision when using a Nvidia Shield. Only shows as black screen.
I know its "older" now but would you guys ever do a review of the Marantz ND8006?
In Europe and Australia, Yamaha installed a DAB+ receiver, together with FM radio in their Aventage RX-A*A amplifiers
Great video! Looking to upgrade my Pioneer Elite VSX-LX304, interested in either: Marantz Cinema 40, Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A or Sony ES STR-AZ7000ES. What unit in your opinion provides the better music listening experience? Cheers!
Hi, I have a old Sansui QRX-7001 and I like to ask you how you clean some dark spots on the front metal bezel? What kind of product clean that dark marks? thanks
I have the Yamaha RX-A4A and very happy with its performance. It is my first Yamaha product coming from a Sony receiver. You just need to fully understand the settings to unleash the potential. Quality product for sure.
Rison thanks for the great feedback!
What do you mean? Aren't you supposed to use the YPAO setup and be done?
@@techsamurai11 No, I wish it was that easy. YPAO is where to start and does work fine. I still check distances and adjust channel sound level to my needs. There are lots of other settings that influence the sound. Best to work your way through the menus and experiment what you like to hear.
@@rison6574 can you elaborate on what you settings you are changing? I have had the a2a for about 15 months and find 99% of the sound settings useless.
Ypao, natural or flat sound is by far the best sounding option.
All of the music options sound awful to me.
@@WardoUSA Hi there,
I am no expert and as you know a lot depends on room acoustics, speakers, placement ect. However, I can share what I did. Contrary to commentators that say put your speakers on 'small' but I have put them on 'large'. I don't have small satelite speakers. I have also run YPAO more than once and then measured the distances and made those adjustments. I bumped up the speaker levels. It is too low from YPAO. The Parametric EQ I use is 'Through'. Power Amp assign on 'Basic'. Tone control on 'Bypass'. YPOA volume 'On'. Adaptive DRC 'On' Enhancer -On'. Extra Bass 'On'. Try these settings and see how you go. Cheers
Running some KLF30's, dual Klipsch THXULTRAII Subs, ksps6's, klipsch center & RX-V3800.
I wanna know where to get some of those Klipsch heritage pictures you got hanging on the wall!!!
I would also love to hear them Khorns! Where you guys located?
I'm happy with my 6.1 set-up, but for three grand this 8A Aventage will do
EVERYTHING new/vintage and is set-up for updating.
Only problem is there would be almost as many wires as dollars......
Great video, can I switch between projector and TV on the 2 hdmi outs. Yamaha fan in the UK.
I have a Yamaha 5640 I've had for years. I've got much better speakers than I used to have but I'm still only running a 5.1 setup via optical through my computer. Found a good deal on a RXA4A yesterday. I don't have any problem with volume levels but do you think there would be a noticeable enough change in sound quality if I upgraded or would it not be worth the cost?
Hi there!
I was wandering if you can advise me what brand of speaker should I get for my Yamaha as1200 !!
So I can get the most of it!
Thanks
Ps I look forward to to hear from you

I have a 6.1 speaker system. How could I connect my speakers to the Yamaha A4A, since I don't see an option for only one surround back speaker???
How will be Yamaha A2A ? And any recommendations for budget speaker package to link it with A2A ?
Excellent content on your videos. One question, would adding a Toroidal instead of an EI transformer make any difference in sound quality on these receivers? Also, I've noticed surface mounted components are greatly affected by excessive heat in some receivers, could you elaborate on a future video? Thank you for an awesome channel.
Transformers would probably be a big price jump. Heat wise, Yamaha carefully placed the heat sinks and boards to alleviate heat, other brands just throw fans in.
Is that really an EI Transformer? It's a square. It's a bummer that they don't use Toroidals. My old Marantz both have toroidal and I can't replace them without going to a different transformer.
@@techsamurai11 There is a place in Mexico DF. or Mexico City, where they custom make it to your specifications. There is a you tuber called Christian Tutorials who is constantly promoting this small shop.
Can you run additional speakers with another amp with these receivers? Not bypassing but using both amplifier sources internal and external...
How many hdmi 2.1 ports are there and what’s the bandwidth? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for your video. I am looking to buy the entry level RX V4A model with 5.2 channels. Is that reliable with good hardware and what is the THD of V4A. I saw the THD value as 0.06% in crutchfield website. Please advise.
I have this receiver but, soo many options to set. Should I just set it to Surround:AI and forget it or is there a TRUE setup to do for this thing for movies?
What are you talking about? Marantz and denon supports 4K/120, alls, and vrr right now. Single input though.
I like to see the physical design change from time to time. Kudos to Yamaha. Seems like for the last 20 years, the look of most brands seemed similar. Just an opinion.
definitely prefer the newer, cleaner, modern design. I do prefer the older display, but my focus is the tv, so it's not a big deal.
kinda funny how many people are treating the smaller display like a death dealer tho lol
How is the 2 channel music quality? Thanks for the great video.
@@donaldbanhart9682please convert to all chanel stereo 😅 4.1 or 4.2 is the sweet spot for music imho, my ht uses car soeakers and has no bad seating positions audibly, took some effort but the whole room fills evenly with music without caring what room its in, its much more fulfilling imho

My Sony STR ZA5000ES has a5 year warranty. I think any "ES" from Sony comes with a 5 year warranty. Now of course it's only 4K which will be the norm for years to come.
Haven't tried any newer Sony. But ES has been great over the years!
Hello. Your reviews are great. Can you please help me decide between these two - denon avc-x3700h vs yamaha rx-a4a ?
Middle sized room, some gaming on PS5, a lot of movies and music. I will pair it with Wharfedale DX2 5.1 system and 2 additional atmos speakers. One more question - is there a big difference in processor quality and audio performance between a2a and a4a (worth a couple hundred euros/dollars) ?
Thank you very much! Keep up the good work!
A4A all the way
@@LennyFlorentine Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Supposedly the AxA line right now has major bugs with not calibrating correctly with more than 3 channels, and subwoofer calibrations.
I just don’t see these being better than a RX-Z9. HDMI has been thru so many changes its crazy. . I run HDMI right to the panel. Second. Is there REALLY any difference between DTS and DTS-HD-MA? I can not hear any audible difference between them at all.
Excellent video guys. I have a question, I have an RXA880 and the sound just stopped due to a chip that apparently overheated over the years or something to that effect. After several research attempts I dont think this can be fixed. My yamaha has a rs232 connect because its hooked up to my home automation system. The A4A does not have a rs232 connection. How would I connect it to my home automation system? Thank you for any advice.
Late reply but I'm pretty sure that all of the commands are interpreted via network as well. They should follow the same format, you'd just have to send it over the network instead of via RS-232. How'd it end up panning out in the end?
Yamaha has already said the hardware is the problem for receivers made 2021, therefore a software update can’t fix it. They will need to warranty a new board for the consumers, almost like a recall. Currently one receiver that has been tested and has a working hdmi 2.1 is the new Denon S760H which is a budget receiver exclusively at Costco.
hdmi 2.3 does not exist yet, 2.1 is the latest version. Maybe you're confused by HDCP ? The Onkyo TX-NR5100 for example does support 4K 120Hz with vrr and allm. ( opposed to Yamaha, who offers those with a firmware update next year, if they keep their promise ). You're correct in stating 4K 120hz with vrr and allm is still the exception nowadays, not many brands support this atm.
@@dawn-moon sorry, type-o, and corrected. What is strange and fortunate at the same time, I have a Yamaha TSR-700 (RX-V6A) which with the new firmware supports 4K 120hz. Only thing I can think of is that it came from a good batch and was shipped with a working board.
Hi, just a fyi. I just delt with Yamaha on this issue. Please see my comment I just made about my V6A reciever
PC is 4K120 right now, so my PC gaming won't work on this receiver?
Do you know what the successor to the rxv 4092 is?
I bought an A4A and it came damaged just like the A8A you're showing us. Maybe Yamaha need a package revision!
Still no update for full HDMI 2.1 support huh?
Though there aren’t many 4K 120Hz locked frame rate games out there. But with VRR and unlocked frame rates the HDMI 2.1 port with a compatible display makes the difference console gamers are looking for. However PC games are totally capable of passing 4K 120 to receivers. Implementation of course varies.
Excellent point!

Is that a Sansui 8080 behind? That's a gorgeous receiver. Makes the Aventage A4A look like Darth Vader's helmet in comparison...

How does a4a compared to the Onkyo Rz50?

The 2022 Yamaha RX-A4A appearance is CA-RAP .. I ended up getting one last weekend and I am so not impressed. The big center volume knob is "okay" but doesn't feel "substantial" and the selection knob is, um, well, I'm not sure what it really does except change your input selections.

Verdaderas joyas de YAMAHA¡!¡!¡!
I’ve always wanted a Yamaha, so last year I grabbed an HTR-5460 A/V receiver from eBay. The thing is complicated as hell but since I only use it for 2 channel stereo, it does a nice job. From what I’ve read is an early 2000’s model. Any thoughts on this one?
Always recommend getting a 2 channel if you only need 2 channel, not an AV receiver.
If you are doing 2.0 audio only, in some cases an older AV receiver might work great.
The reason being, is that the older stuff, without HDMI are obsolete and very cheap.
Still, if you dive into there spec, a lot have vary capable amps inside and certainly if you are using only 2.0, the power supply has reserve. There are some drawbacks: They usually do not have bass/treble/balance knobs, as that is often hidden into menus. The best way arount that is to use an equalizer and the " line-direct" of "audio direct" of "pue audio" whatever they call the feature that excludes any DSP stuff in the AV amp.
@@LennyFlorentine That was my thought exactly. For 2 channel go with the AS-801. An awesome integrated amp

I laugh at the marketing of "8K" ! Lots of media sources do not even have 1080P FDH signals going to their customers 100% and the 4K or UHD doesn't make up the media market by much. Anyone looking for mostly 4k and most likely 8k media would half to provide it themselves.
In my experience, that little cooling fan will be worn out in just 2 years and have to be replaced when the bearings fail. Yamaha should use a larger fan that turns slower for a fan that lasts longer and one with quality bearings.
Flag ship.....there can be only one. Hahaha

Can't believe how thin the fins are on heatsinks nowdays. Bet it gets nice and warm. Any discount on the one you took apart? Doesn't hurt to ask. Not a make or break but always liked the amber lighting on previous yamahas.
Thinner fins allow for more fins, more airflow, more heat dissipation.
@@JSKuchar no it doesn't it's cheaper that's it and they do get hotter
@@andrewschulz9586 There’s a fan underneath - so they can push aur through easily
Is the RX A 860/880 equivalent to A4 ?
A4=1080
Hello my friend. Can use this receiver for music only?
Movies as well
Thank you very much.
120W vs 150W per channel difference between the two receivers is significant.
TWO channels driven. 25% more is not much. 50% more would be significant.
