If you enjoy watching movies but would rather do so in the comfort of your own home, you might want to consider purchasing an AV receiver. One of the simplest ways to bring the cinema experience home is with an AV receiver, and modern models come equipped with cutting-edge capabilities like 8K video, Dolby Atmos, and wireless music streaming. Finding the proper one for your home might be a little difficult, though, because the specifications of these gadgets can become rather complicated.

I'm a die hard Yamaha fan when it comes to receivers. I have had nothing but Yamaha for the past 20 plus years. That doesn't mean I won't try out another brand at some point but so far the clarity that Yamaha receivers produce is what keeps me with them. Sound quality is more important to me than power with the receiver. You can always add more power but quality of the sound being produced is where it all starts in my opinion.

If you listen to Andrew Robinson he will do his best to try to convince you to buy the RZ50. but in reality? the RZ50 is not in the same league as the Yamaha. which is by FAR a better receiver on any scale. especially if you pick the Yamaha Advantage rx-a6a. even the a4a is still a better buy than the RZ50. many who review audio receivers get paid to promote them. Andrew Robinson is one of them. also, a significant factor is the build quality of the Yamaha. That's a receiver you can count on that will outlast the rest.

Thanks for the guidance. I've only owned a Yamaha before and it's been good. I had Warfdale speakers though. On the market for something new, I'm not brand loyal - what would you recommend in the Yamaha stable - on a mid-level budget? I don't want entry-level stuff, even though I'm a total noob at this - I know I don't want restrictions later.

My suggestion is. if you're a true audio enthusiast listen to Audioholic's detailed "deep dive" review of the Yamaha Advantage A6A. Highly recommended.
      ua-cam.com/video/7X2jwQOsWkw/v-deo.html
This is truly a pro receiver, even better than the new Marants Cinema 40. (which is a newer model)
before buying a high-end receiver have a look inside. and the chassis. the weight and where the main power supply is located.
btw. the rated RMS power of the A6A is 150. but it can reach 286 watts per channel when using 4-6 ohms speakers.
if you don't want to spend that much money. choose the Yamaha RX-A4A. over the Onkyo.
when Andrew Robinson did his pick of 5 best receivers for 2022-2023 He completely ignored the Yamama :) cause he gets paid to promote.
most YT bers get paid to promote. they don't have the technical data and know-how. how to rate any receivers.

@@JadeB628 in his defense the A6A wasn't ready when he reviewed it.. Yamaha still didn't have VRR / 120hz or ALLM at the time he reviewed it as it was awaiting a firmware update. Making matters worse is this firmware update TOOK FOREVER !!!!!!.. I'm sure if he was to do an updated review the Yamaha would win hands down.

The Denon AVR x6700h is a beast. I love it. I have it set up in 7.2.4 and the sound and control of the sound is amazing! I upgraded from the Sony and I couldn't believe how much clearer and clean the sound was, especially at higher volumes. I heard sounds and lyrics I've never heard before. Both of my receivers were powering Klipsch Reference and Reference Premier speakers with no external amps.

Sounds fantastic huge improvement on my previous 23 year old, 5.0.0 set up. I plan get the BasX A6 to power the height channels later this year and just run the X6700H as a processor, should last me for many years.

I want to get an AVR but I refuse to buy one unless it's confirmed 48 Gbps. I know 48 Gbps isn't that prevalent right now but some things do support it e.g. Nvida RTX 3000 and 4000 and projectors as well as confirmed TVs launching this year and some older models from 2020 and I don't want to fork out a grand on an AVR that will need to be upgraded when the new spec becomes more ubiquitous so I'll just wait. At least if you get a 48 Gbps one then you'll likely be set for 5-10 years. I see getting a 40 Gbps one now as a waste of money if you foresee yourself needing 48 Gbps within the next year or two like I do for myself. My next question would be if anyone knows of any AVRs confirmed to support 48 Gbps??

    • @tragicanomaly1707

40 vs 48 gbps is negligible. 10 bit panel vs 12 bit panel full RGB which, I don't care what anyone says, you can't see the difference with the naked eye. Pull the trigger on 40 gbps or wait for the next hdmi standard.

@@tragicanomaly1707 There is more to 48 Gbps than just 10 bit panel vs 12 bit panel and there will be even more in the future too. 4k 144hz for example. Point is whether its a year, 2 years, 3 years there will come a time when you will need the full 48 Gbps and I would rather hold my 1k for another year and get the new third gen chips which will be releasing in the not to distant future and that way I won't need to upgrade for at least 10+ years as opposed to dropping that money now and then having to upgrade again in 3 years or whatever. Everyone will have different preferences, circumstances, financial situations etc... that's just me, I'm not saying my way is the only right way but I know there are people that would agree with me. I have an RTX 4080 also and they support 48Gbps already. When they release the new PS and Xbox revisions e.g. PS5 Pro in the next year or 2 they will likely support 48 Gbps too. I think if you haven't already committed then you're better off waiting for future proof.
Edit: There are just somethings in life you can just never have too much of and bandwidth is one of them.

@AZZomwhazz You are obviously are still an audio visual virgin, at least in experience. (I mean no offense) And I say this because all experienced hobbyist in this field, no there is no such thing as future proofing, it's just an illusion. We convince ourselves of this phenomenon to justify spending more on said item. The truth is the producers engineer their products for controlled obsolescence. That is how they continue to make money year after year.

Denon and Marantz receivers and processors are too dark sounding to me. They roll off the high end too much. Yamaha units sound much better, imo. They also generally have a bit more detail, transparency, and fine resolution. I'm surprised this review suggests the Yamaha didn't handle music sources as well as the others. My ears tell me the opposite. Unless Yamaha has really dropped the ball with their most current line, in terms of sound quality, I find Denon and Marantz are 1 or probably 2 steps down. It's obvious they're chasing a so-called "warm" sound. It just doesn't work for me, at least as compared to Yamaha, or even Pioneer Elite.

Best decision I ever made was returning the £2,000 Denon 6500 for the arcam avr20. Nevermind the Denon was unable to make my high-end sonus Faber speakers sound their best. But when listening with the arcam and the movie sound Dynamics change. Mo more having to reach for the remote control 🥳

It's a matter of personal taste. I tried several different brands.
I get what everyone likes in the Yamaha, but the high precision detail I hear in them, is a little too processed for my ears. I settled for the warmer sound of the Marantz.
It sounded the best for me for two Channel listening, especially in Pure Direct Mode.
But hey, it's a great time to be alive in this world of AVR's.
Some guys like Chevy, some like Ford. And each individual gets to choose.

It was 2007 when i bought Yamaha RX-V459 for 260€. In 2023 i got Denon AVR-S660H for 500€ bc of hdmi. I loved his design and options. But hdmi board died after a month. Even after 2 months, Denon never sent new parts so i got refund. Now im back to Yamaha RX-V459. Not sure what to buy... New Yamaha is very ugly and impedance is only 8ohms. Denon seems to have all options like earc, wifi, 6-8ohms, nice speaker terminals...Prices are ridiculous today and no spare parts !! I feel like i live in Russia and not Europe.

Denon sucks! The ones with audyssey are trash, I've had them, and they sounded very processed. Yamaha is the better one here, cause YPAO is impler to use and sounds better for music, but also better with the movies.
Also, Denon tends to overheat a lot, I had the X2300W, which kept on a chair heated quickly, that too with only the 2 speakers hooked up (Left/RIght). Sold it and bought a Yamaha RX-A1080 and I'm much happier since 2020.

All receivers are largely rubbish these days. Too slow switching between inputs, and ARC still doesn't work properly. You can't even adjust treble and bass manually on most of them!! Its incredible how many millions of consumers buy AV Receivers and then quickly realise how many glitches there are with them.

I had Denon, got into issues and service centre asked more price than the purchase price. Also with Denon I can’ t able watch movies peacefully. No clarity when it comes to watch movies:
This jan 2023, I bought Yamaha rx v4A , I felt the sound clarity is too good. Now Denon feels like junk to me. Music also good with Yamaha.
Denon was like Dum Dum Dum. Not high clarity in voice. Only bass bass !!
I felt I made good choice by getting Yamaha instead of repairing Denon.
Prices of Denon is increased by 3 times in India … 🫢🫢🫢
