I doesn't matter if you're on the road or in a sticks & bricks, there will always be troubles to deal with. I had to replace a hot water heater just before Christmas, have new gutters put on between 2 storm systems (first storm took them off), and now I need to deal with a sewer issue in the Spring that involves heavy equipment. If you lived in a tent in the woods, the tent would leak. It's just life, that's all.
This is why I always service my trans every 3 years or 30k miles. and when I buy a used RV, Truck, or car. I drop the trans pan and put in a new filter and new trans fluid. If your going to travel you need to take care of your motor and trans. A RV works a lot harder with all that weight , so take care of your RV.
It's no different than a roof or sewer problem on my house. Living in an RV you just get exposed to different kind of problems. Good luck and here is hoping the real problem isn't the hit on the old pocket book.
Just wanted to let you know that I received my T shirt and I love it. We support you and enjoy your videos. We full timed for 2 years and loved it. We want to offer you our driveway (full hookup) even dump. We live in Titusville Fl and have some neat things to see here. Would love to have you and one of my favorite cats come and visit. My husband if legally blind so I do all the driving and we get some great ideas from your videos. We went to Salt Springs this week with friends and loved it. Just because of you. So keep up the good work and if you decide you need a place come on down. Penny and George Swire
Eric once the transmission is fixed and you keep tabs of needs between oil changes, you will have more control of the engine than surprises. Vehicles that sit long go through the transmission hiccup but things will get better soon. Keep your dream alive and meet up with fans to be blessed on the road.
I think you have a great RV, but it's a machine and machines have failures. It could actually be something fairly simple. Once fixed, you won't have this worry again. I fully understand the stress and frustration but it will fade after you get past this. You put way more miles on an RV than most people, so you have to be very careful about maintenance and I think you do this. even so, shit happens. That's why a small emergency savings fund might be a good idea. You can build this up slowly and make a habit out of putting a few dollars into the kip for days like this ... better days farther down the road ...
Get an RV motor home insurance such as Good Sam, they deal with rvs and motorhomes every day not like AAA. I have used them dozens of times over the last 10 years. One time in my 5th wheel my truck died they used two huge tow vehicles, one for the truck and another for the trailer. No extra charge. Second, use a cell phone based GPS when driving, you will know exactly where you are AND know where the next exit is ! Best of luck... Ron W.
Eric I found Good Sam is the best, they are RV experts and know what truck to send, also don't be a whiner suck it up and hit the road you always seem to come out better when you go through struggles !!
A few years late, but yes, Good Sam road service is great. (If you are a Good Sam member, you can also get discounts on campgrounds and purchases and service at Camping World.)
Also, breaking down anywhere is sucky. Especially in the dark. Tow trucks, especially when you need a longer one to tow an RV, are notorious for taking a long time to reach you. But, you have your home, with everything you need, right there while you wait.
@@chilidog73 Yes, Camping World isn't that great any more, especially in the service department, but sometimes the discounts on RV supplies are better than getting something at Wal Mart. It's just another choice to think about.
Wow I am really very sorry to hear about what has been happening. It's never fun to break down on the road but your experiences sound like nightmares. I have driven Semi trucks for many years and fortunately I have never had to wait 6 hours for a tow truck. And the one where the guy was damaging your motor home and bicycle I sure hope the tow company or triple A took care of that for you. I hope you don't give up on living on the road, you may be having some bad luck lately, between this and finding out your floor is messed up which hopefully won't be too much to get fixed in both cases. But you are definitely cut out very well for what you are doing. You are a very resourceful person. I wish you the best of luck with your transmission and a smooth journey for you when you get back on the road.
This is just life, Eric. You'll bounce back up. Even if you did plant your feet somewhere you'd still have problems. It is more frustrating to be somewhere you are unfamiliar with and in the dark etc. But you handled this fine and you seem more in control this time around. The thing is, you're getting better and better at handling these things and that should give you some reassurance. And you're teaching others what to do in similar situations. Priceless. Good Luck today and I hope it's an easy fix.
Don't let them win! NOT EVER! Don't let society beat you! Don't give them one shred of your happiness. When society starts to bust in on you, let it roll, and think that maybe that 6 hour delay was God, your Angel, or Karma saving you from something. Always find a way to turn energy draining events into energy refilling events. I'm a retired biochemist, and science taught me that energy is never lost, but just converted. I apply that to life as well. So, when something or someone drains your mental energy system, find where the energy went, (usually into negative thoughts because of unmet expectations), and what it converted to, (usually anger and frustration), and grab onto it, convert it back (by rethinking your expectations), and refill your reserves. See, I will say that your experience just helped me tremendously, BC I was just about to sign up my RV with AAA. Now knowing they only allow 4 per year, I will choose a different company I know has better limits. So, if for no other reason than believing your tough experience may help others is positive thinking to turn things around. Seriously, you really helped me decide. AAA does not list their yearly limit. I also saw another video you had with Lidia where they made you wait 8 hours. I have health problems, and will now choose an RV specialized road service. So...I'd hate to see you throw on the towel BC of them. Chin up!
Man I can feel your frustration. Once you get her fixed up maybe you should take a break and find an RV park to rest in for a while? Sometimes we get burned out with our current situation, and a little down time makes all the difference in the world.
Hey Eric Don't give up just because of temporary problems. Focus on the great experiences that you had and will have in the future. And keep in mind that you make almost 70K people a little bit happier with your videos every day and I'm one of them. Good luck from a subscriber from Switzerland! ;-)
You got stuck on the side of the road with a kitchen, lounge, bathroom and bed and it's like it's the end of the world. I guess I'm missing something here.
I worked for a tow company for over 2 years. I can honestly say triple A was the worst for sending the wrong vehicle information to the tow companies. It also depends on the staffing of the tow company. Where I worked we only had two drivers who were qualified to drive a "big rig" wrecker. Depending on how backed up the calls were customers, unfortunately, had to wait for long periods of time before we could get someone out to tow. Honestly I think you get better service if you call the tow company yourself but it is pricey without an insurance company to cover a portion or even full amount. Good luck in the future!
Erik, Do not feel alone. They did the same thing to me. Only they sent 3 different trucks. I finally had to call a big rig semi flat bed. $200.00 i also had the RV on my AAA.
If I were in your shoes, I probably be thinking the same thing - it is super stressful to be broken down on the road. Don't think it is a sign, just a problem to be solved in the Life and Times of Eric and Jax the Cat! You have an amazing life and frankly, I wish I could live in a RV and travel! As Grandma would say, "Everything looks better after a bit of rest"...
I hope the transmission shop is honest with you. Erick don't give up you're giving us a look into the lifestyle of how it really is on the road. I'm going tomorrow to buy my rv and because of you I have the insight of how it really is. Thank you and be safe my friend.
Hey Dude. I hated to hear you say "maybe life on the road just isn't for me." Don't give up. The reality is that everybody has bad days whether they're on the road or living a traditional lifestyle. Some days just really suck regardless of where you are or what you're doing. Try to weigh all the good days you've had against the bad ones. I think you'll find that the good outweighs the bad. Plus, we love watching your videos.
"Life is nothing but 1,000 little slaps in the face." My friend's favorite quote. Sometimes it feels like that. I had a rough day too, different reason, of course, but we just have to keep on keeping on. Your experiences provide lots of things to consider when choosing what type of an RV to get. Having the engine in the RV complicates matters as it seems they are not as reliable as a good tow truck. Just seems that way, anyway. I'm still torn between a travel trailer, class B or class C. Hang in there.
***** I would if I could. I have no business being near a hammer and nail~! Zero construction/carpentry knowledge here. I'm also wanting something I can live full time. It's definitely on the radar as a consideration, however. I appreciate your suggestion, thanks.
***** When I get closer to when I can retire and hit the road, I'll definitely look into that possibility. Are some brands better than others as far as quality of construction for the base trailer (which the interior would be remodeled)?
I wish you the best. I can sure appreciate your frustrations. I hope it is something fairly simple and that after this, your enjoyment of the road continues. I look forward each day to your videos and would hate to see you give it up. God Bless!!
If this video wasn't so old I would be calling triple A and complaining for you !!! A lot of people watching your videos are going to be reconsidering there services ... I am now ... that's like a horror story of what crapy service they have and how dangerous it was for awhile there ! Glad you made it
Eric man sorry for your rough night man ! I know the bullshit happends to you all the time and it does suck ! But your nomadic life style and your videos rock ! And we support what you do thumbs up hang in there !
Eric, I'm sitting on the tip of my chair and having difficulties with breathing and sweaty palms and feet. All the motorhome drama sometimes is just too much for me to take. :) But I do know that the god of all RV-ers will forever protect you and Jax!
I have had exactly the same experiences with breakdown recovery here in the uk. Sending the wrong vehicle, the long waits etc. Don't let it get to you you have to way off against all the good times. I would love to be able to do what you do. Thanks Eric.
ERIC BUDDY,.....I always tell my wife to head up the Highway and stay on the other side of the guard rail.People that are in front or in the vehicle end up injured or dead.
These things happen to us all, but it is very frustrating to wait so long for the breakdown people. I expect you will feel much better after a good sleep! Take care xxx
I had AAA for over ten years and switched to GoodSam over 10 years ago after AAA was unable to send a tow service to rescue us, in our first, small, class C. I had to find a tow company on my own on the side of the road with cars rushing by. Comments from friends with RV'ers and the tow truck driver I found to rescue us, pointed me to GoodSam. Thank God, we meet that tow truck driver. He was absolutely correct, GoodSam is a good service for RVers. In over ten years, we have needed GoodSam once to tow our 40' Class A RV that weights 38K lbs empty, once for a tire change on the RV (which is no easy job), once for a mobile RV repair, once for a car tow and once for a battery jump on a car. After our first experience, I'll never be without a GoodSam membership. They take care of the customer. A wonderful service. It's a little higher priced but worth it.
Another reason I won't join AAA or any other roadside assistance program because these towing companies won't send a truck to you if they have another customer who needs the same type of truck if they are getting paid more by the other customer. That's why you waited so long on the side of the road, you were not a priority because AAA does not fully pay a towing company that is in their program. Recently, I needed a tow and I waited almost 3 hours because I went through my insurance and they gave me a good deal on a tow. Same principal. They were not being paid the same amount that other customers were paying and I was then forced to wait until they could bother to finally tow me.
might want to have your transmission checked at a different shop then ammco he in California they wantwd $4,500 to fix my transmission went to small transmission shop an payed 1,800.00 to rebuild it word of advice... would think that Rv would have transmission problem so soon.
As you've already found out, Aamco never just services a transmission, nor do they rebuild your own transmission. They have lots of various transmissions in the back of greatly varying and inconsistent rebuild quality; but they'll always try to tell you some "specifics" of what went wrong with your transmission but will inevitably replace it. They also don't charge you the amount of what it costs to rebuild your exact transmission; they charge you what it cost them to rebuild the transmission from someone else's vehicle to get it running in your vehicle. I do sincerely wish you the best of luck with them. I know all of this as I've been to court with Aamco and learned all of this the hard way. If I was to get a transmission, I would have gone to a GM dealership and had one of their reman. transmissions installed with a 3 year/36000 mile warranty; and the Goodwrench transmissions have good consistency in the quality of the unit you receive. Hang in there!
Obviously there was no way of knowing at the time but I live about 30 minutes from Wilson Blvd which is exit 17. That's a real bummer of a place to stop as you know now. No motels on that exit. Not even any decent restaurant nearby. Cat can sense your mood so he's feeling your pain.
Sorry about the trouble, Eric, especially the very, very long wait only to get a truck that can't tow you, followed by another very, very, very, very, very long wait. :-( Maybe it's time to consider Good Sam's roadside assistance service? At least Florida's highway patrol gives better service than AAA. :-) Hopefully you can get the transmission repaired quickly and back on the road soon. :-)
Roll with the punches brother. Bad things happen when you own a home, live in an apt, or reside in an RV. You seem to enjoy the lifestyle and perhaps you should travel to areas where you have had the best experiences. Unfortunately, vehicle repairs are just part of owning a vehicle. I would say with the amount of miles you travel on a 16yr old vehicle. Enjoy the life and remember how you overcame.
I would have been so scared, ticked, and many other feelings! You handled it so well. The transmission or engine issues would be one of my biggest fears of life on the road!
It’s in limp mode! The best thing to do if you loose a gear while driving pullover for about 30 minuets let the transmission fluid cool down and you can usually get the gear back. You either burnt the clutches in top gear which you would have smelled or you have a bad shift solenoid!
Hey man, have your throttle position sensor checked out, the "tsp" (on the engine)when defective can create a situation that mimics a faulty transmission...the "tsp" communicates with the transmission and if that communication is severed the transmission does not know the correct time (RPM) to shift. I hope that is the only problem, it's a relatively cheap fix...good luck!!!
You have the patience of Job! This episode was intense and scary. Thank God a cop came by to help you!!!! Glad AAA finally sent someone who knows what to do. Glad you and Jax are safe and sound.
Dude, you need some stress management, these situations just freak you out. Chill man, take a pill. Shit happens, nothing you can do, it will work itself out. maybe take up karate or something that helsp you calm your mind.
I feel your pain. I've had transmission issues too. No fun. AAA sometimes is quick, and sometimes slow. We are now getting Good Sam RV towing service for our truck & 5th wheel. Good luck.
Eric, Hang in there. Stuck in Florida with Jax. No other people to take care of - decorating your RV while waiting on a tow. Looks like you know how to make the best of a bad situation. Enjoy it a while longer - we enjoy living it with you.
Wow this video came up on my newsfeed & I've been watching you from 2019 till last video you uploaded your last one of when the mustang hit you & fled. So I thought 🤔 hmm why didn't I notice your Rv being so small I thought it was bigger! I continued watching & Bam there was Jax's jumping on your lap 😔 It was so nice to see him again even though I thought this was from 2022 not 6 yrs ago. Still I needed that! Hope your not having any issues as of today other then cosmetic to your Rv. ✌️ Stay Safe out there!
I just want to add that my husband and I are 62 and 54. He'll retire at 66 in 3.5 years. We paid off our house last year. We're seriously considering buying an rv of some type and hitting the road when he retires. Watching these videos is helping us with that decision. If we do head out, we'll know much more about how to do it and what to expect. If fate blesses us with a grand baby before then, the entire plan will probably be nixed. Who could blame us for wanting to be as close as possible to a grand baby??
I'm really sorry about your issues in Florida, I just moved out of the state, and the whole place sucks as a whole. I'm surprised the cars aren't going faster then 70mph. Glad to see you're safe though.
Broke down in Jacksonville myself and was four states from home, you just get fixed and move on. That's part of the life style. Break downs happen in brick and mortar as well so life goes on.
So sorry about such a terrible time you had,,especially with triple A....we used to have them and got rid of them (bad service, too expensive) hope everything works out for you and things get better.
If your Vehicle still moves and you know you haft to get a tow and or your breakin down always find a WAY WAY WAY SAFER PLACE to pull over if possible~ Could be life or death.....

+markie mark I agree! And plus I enjoy my coffee watching your vids!
Hang in there, it's tough when you're alone. I know that very well.
Keep your head up Eric! Everything will fall in to place for you, patience is a virtue :)

Hey Eric

Well he is on a dam highway in Florida, I live in this state and they drive like maniacs and hit people broken down all the time.
Yeah, you're missing how FUCKING dangerous his location is; inside or outside.
Eric - Don't Stop!!! We need you and your videos... You don't realize what you do for people.... Stay safe.
Definitely the most comfortable way to breakdown. Sorry about the transmission problem
you should have kept your Ford
if you could drive the rig to the other side of the road, what prevented you from driving to the transmission shop directly?

Always get off the highway via the off ramp if any way possible, the COP was exactly right.
The cat is my favorite part, new subscriber based on the cat.
Hopefully it's nothing serious!! Hang in there Eric!
Hopefully Amco will diagnos your transmission issue fairly quick. good luck Eric.
I've repair this a few times. it's the main pressure solenoid in the transmission. easy fix. Don't get ripped off Eric
Erik,
Do not feel alone. They did the same thing to me. Only they sent 3 different trucks. I finally had to call a big rig semi flat bed. $200.00 i also had the RV on my AAA.
its called "limp in mode" if that happens again, while driving down the highway shift to N then back to D. it will put it into the highest gear.
Campervan sure does sound good right now doesnt it lol
Finally just like old times with tilly.
I'm so glad you did not call it quits after this situation. Your videos are great.

I deleted mine too. personally I would have driven to the transmission place though.
Just a tip for everyone: digitally record all your phone calls like Nixon. It could save your ass one day. Keep your wheels on the ground. Aloha.
I hope everything works out for you bruh. Keep you head up and stay positive because I'm sure everything will work out.
These things happen to us all, but it is very frustrating to wait so long for the breakdown people. I expect you will feel much better after a good sleep! Take care xxx
That's a rough day. Good luck with the repair and hang in there.!
Love the title! Wishing you the best as always - (I've never held my breath so long - waiting for it to shift for you )
I had AAA for over ten years and switched to GoodSam over 10 years ago after AAA was unable to send a tow service to rescue us, in our first, small, class C.
Better days are coming Erick-chin up & keep doing what you do best!
Hey man don't give up being nomadic! It's just one of those days. We all have em. Hang in there bro. Thanks for the videos
Yikes!! transmission issues always expensive.I hope all goes well for you Eric.
What is it with you and transmissions??
Thanks yet again. Your 'life' is so more dramatic than bold & the beautiful................just a trainwreck waiting to happen. love it.
Takes a long time to get a big rig wrecker. I'm a truck driver and it could be 2 hour to 4 hour wait.
takes even longer when you wait for over an hour and the wrong truck has been sent even tho you told them 3 times what size the vehicle was..
Don't give up ! Let's hope it's just a sticky shift solenoid or bad solenoid (fingers crossed!)
Dude, you need some stress management, these situations just freak you out. Chill man, take a pill. Shit happens, nothing you can do, it will work itself out. maybe take up karate or something that helsp you calm your mind.
That does suck! Tomorrow's another day. Hope it is easily repaired Eric. Good luck. Chin up mate
Hopefully it's just low fluid or stopped up filter. Could be the pump as well. All this is a relatively inexpensive fix.
I feel your pain. I've had transmission issues too. No fun. AAA sometimes is quick, and sometimes slow. We are now getting Good Sam RV towing service for our truck & 5th wheel. Good luck.
Dude, you should get a job testing automatic transmissions. You are really good breaking them. Maybe Allison or Eaton would sponsor you. :)
Keeps strong dude. Life likes to throw in wrenches now and then, don't let it change your life if it doesn't have to
Eric, Hang in there.
I think it was Mark Twain said,"when the going gets tough, the tough get drinkin".....Bottoms up,y'all.
Eric you need to relax. I'm a truck driver and breakdowns are to be expected
Hang in there, Eric. You have a lot of folks who are your friends and we will help you, if needed. Keep on rolling on.
Don't make big decisions on hard days like that. Good luck.
Google "coach-net".
the more I see you and James have trouble with these rvs makes me think I my stay with a travel trailer or a van.
Hang in there Eric, remember even athletes rarely make a decision to retire directly after a tough loss.
So sorry about such a terrible time you had,,especially with triple A....we used to have them and got rid of them (bad service, too expensive) hope everything works out for you and things get better.
Stay positive Eric, you can get through this.
Absolutely love your channel....you are living the dream.... just subscribed... keep your head up 😀🇺🇸👍
You should have your 4ways on and some reflective triangles to place behind your vehicle. You're asking to get rear ended.
+Northwoods Patriot Ah hear ya,Cliven ! Actualy ah think it's the dooty of the US milytary to come and rescue our stranded motoriss. He pays taxes .
If your Vehicle still moves and you know you haft to get a tow and or your breakin down always find a WAY WAY WAY SAFER PLACE to pull over if possible~ Could be life or death.....
