My first thought, when the camera panned across your team's faces, was,"crap!" I knew, unless team Holderness had brought in total ringers, they were toast! Totally awesome video. I may be hooked!
Thank you so much for welcoming Team Holderness! I must admit, my only prior exposure to curling was through the pages of The Cat Who Smelled a Rat (Lillian Jackson Braun), when journalist Jim Qwilleran went to watch a match. With Kim & Penn being seasoned professional, national-grade journalists (like Qwill), this was eerily familiar. But the tools and techniques didn't look quite as I had pictured, based on the book's influence, not having ever watched it. I thought it would be more like hockey, but with players in hockey-like apparel and skates, using cinnamon brooms to push volcanic rocks with smooth bases. Thankfully, in this case, no one died and Kim & Penn didn't have to solve a whodunit. Although I could see them doing their own take on Murder She Wrote with a curling scene. LOL
I am from Saskatchewan Canada…. Curling is a huge deal here … my whole family is obsessed, I was always the black sheep for not being a curler. My only note is that you don’t have to sweep every time. Only if the rock is going too slow and needs some help getting to the target or if you think there is something on the ice. But you guys did awesome !
I have not even finished watching this and I am in love with this video. As a Canaidian who loves curling but had never tried it, thank you for showing how much of an athlete you have to be to play.
Love curling, have played it for 30 years. It is a sport husband and wife can play and learn together. Keep going and curling will certainly grow on both of you. Enjoyed the effort and first game.
I LOVE watching Olympic curling! My husband teases me because he thinks it's boring. Glad to know I'm right 😁 You guys are the best- rooting for you on TAR! Thanks for the fun video, I need to find a curling place near me!
Many, many years ago, before Toronto had the Raptors, TSN covered a LOT of curling in January and February. The current president of the company that I worked for was up from the US head office was a NBA fanatic, and was VERY dismayed that curling briers got more airtime than basketball. We explained at length about how curling is a challenging sport, and that he should try it before dismissing it entirely. He joined our curling league and loved it! I hope that he took that love back to S. Carolina when he went back home. Hi Bob 🇺🇸🇨🇦
That was thoroughly enjoyable. My dad is a long-time curler. We used to rent the local curling club for our family Christmas parties when I was younger so the kids got to play around on the ice, which gave us instant respect for our relatives who know how to play and make it look easy. Always remembering which foot the slider is on and not to put weight on it is a feat in itself. Then learning how to throw the rock hard enough to reach the target but not too hard so it doesn't go over. You guys did pretty good for first-timers!
I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one that is obsessed watching Curling during the Olympics! My family thinks I'm nuts, but I love watching it. Thanks so much for the video, even though it was hard, it looks like y'all still had a blast Curling! Also, hoping y'all take home the prize on The Amazing Race! Love watching ya'll on there & I've got my family routing for y'all too!
My husband and I are same age as you both but I think you guys are now America's Mom & Dad ! You both are incredibly beautiful, sweet, fun, caring and loving people! This sport is one out favorites to watch in the winter olympics.
Loved the curling video. We are a curling watching family and we have been getting up at 1am and 7am to watch the Olympic curling. Mixed, Men's and Women's. Go Team Canada.
I watch you guys and I’m a curler. Fun to see your take on the sport! It’s definitely not as easy as it looks, but they let us play and have fun even if we aren’t great (yet). 🙃
My boss is part of a curling club so I hear about it all the time. According to what I have learned from him is that you missed one important part of curling, and that is the large amount of alcohol consumption that occurs after the match is over ;)
im enjoying this channel so much !! super glad your amazing race podcast got reccommended !! hype for the olympics and rooting for you in the upcoming legs of the race
Two favorite lines... "For all the sweeping I do at home, I thought I'd be better at this" and "Big burrito coming in hot"!! I love watching curling during the Olympics! And love that you got yelled at when Penn mentioned shuffleboard. HA!!!!
Aw guys - you make the best videos. As a Scot I love watching curling and you just made it even better. You need to follow the Olympics Team out to the Winter Olympics and entertain everybody there as well. Good job on your first effort though. You really made me laugh.
I LOVE Curling and have always wanted to try it. This is awesome. You two always crack me up! Curling is so fun to watch. One my favorite Olympic memories is when our USA guys got the gold last time. I stayed up half the night to watch that! 😂
I haven't curled since high school in Canada. I notice some changes, like there wasn't a PVC thingy to lean on. Also the brooms are quite different. Sure wish we had a curling club here in Washington.
Haha, I loved this and you're right. They always make it look so easy so it was fun to see you guys attempt this without knowing what you were doing.....much like I would. Lol
You all did an amazing job for first timers, good on 'ya! I think the closest I'll get to curling is the tabletop game set I put on my Amazon wish list awhile ago, after coming across some playoffs for the Olympics on TV. 😊
When I was little my parents used to curl in a bonspiel put on by my dads work company. Finally a bunch of years later I got to play and oh my goodness was my knee sore from always banging it on the ice when I threw the rocks. Very fun sport though
My family tried curling 4 years ago after the last Olympics. It' pretty hard to keep your balance as you throw the stone and to throw it with enough force to make it down the sheet, but not too hard. We improved over the time of our lesson, but all in all, we weren't very good at it. It was fun to try, though.
Best sport ever🎉🎉🎉 I started curling a long time ago, our town had a junior program, almost every Alberta small town I have been to has had a junior program
You two are such good sports . Looking forward to your entire winter Olympic events. As a Canadian it warms my heart to see you enjoying the ICE !!! I suggest you try the skating parts - speed skating longer blades easier to balance. Then figure skating. Balance is key. Then hockey.more skills required with this sport - skating plus stick handling plus passing plus shooting. Just sayin’ progressing up to the trickiest one might be better.
I have tried curling on a vacation and had a blast. As an older person with less flexibility, I was given modified approaches... no lunges. It was still difficult and still fun. So, just because you can't see yourself doing it the way you see the Olympians playing, don't think you can't enjoy the sport.
It my favorite sport and part of 2 curling clubs in New Hampshire to get as much curling ice time as possible. There is a lot to learn with this sport, such a aim, the correct weight, sweeping techniques, the Skip calling good shots and so on. GO TEAM USA 🇺🇸 GO FOR THE GOLD...
On one side of the coin, Penn’s subtle warm-up suit is stellar! So GQ. On the other side of the coin, Penn didn’t nearly drown trying. #SwimOlympics. Win-Win!!
This has nothing to do with the video (except that its for Kim and she was in the video!) but I have been waiting for a new video from you guys to post this! Since I know how much Kim (cough cough) HATES Target I saw this and immediately thought of her! Saw this posted on my local coffee stand (BONUS! another thing Kim loves!) "not all who wander are lost. Some are just Moms in Target" (your welcome ! lol)
It does a number of things, keeps the ice clean, helps keep the rock on line when it starts to pull (curl) too much, it can pull a slow rock in deeper. And yes you are right - it does smooth the ice in a way. The ice is "pebbled" (small water droplets sprayed on the ice before starting). Effective sweeping melts the pebbles just enough to help the rock glide easier. Sweepers take their cues from the skip/captain who is in the House (target area) watching how fast and what trajectory the rock is coming in at.
This was amazing! We had a blast sharing our sport with you. You are welcome back any time.

It’s a great sport, well done for welcoming the Holdernesses and all their fans!

Riddle: How do you keep Canadian bacon from curling? You take away their tiny brooms.

Curling really was so much fun!
@@theholdernessfamily thanks so much for making me laugh today. I so needed it. Hoping to go home from the hospital today. You both made my day!!
This looks like Twister with shuffleboarding and a Rhomba vacuum!
Just when I thought I couldn’t love you more, you said you like curling! My favorite Olympic sport. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My brother is one of the pros in the video!
These 2 are so perfect at what ever they do.
Someone needs to tell Phil that there needs to be a Curling challenge on the Amazing Race.
there was a Curling challenge in Season 8
Thanks for promoting the game of Curling. We need to grow our sport and your support is awesome. ♥️🇨🇦
🙏🏼 🇺🇦
It was fun watching this and you guys “assisting” them on getting two of their points (your stone bumping theirs).
I watch you guys and I’m a curler. Fun to see your take on the sport! It’s definitely not as easy as it looks, but they let us play and have fun even if we aren’t great (yet). 🙃
This looks super fun! It’s so cool to watch, too. I’m so friggin excited for the Olympics!
Curled for 11 years. It is such a great sport with great people! Don’t give up, would love to see you curl again!!
This is a great series ! Love this concept and of course you are always enjoyable 😉
My boss is part of a curling club so I hear about it all the time. According to what I have learned from him is that you missed one important part of curling, and that is the large amount of alcohol consumption that occurs after the match is over ;)
I think that is the secret sauce of a lot of amateur sports, except SOME church leagues. 🤣
“Watch out Olympic!!” . . . . Proceeds to fall. Kim for the win!! 🤣🤣 Love you guys!
Such a great video! But let's be honest, the real MVP of this video was that awesome pair of trousers.
I love to watch curling! Thanks for showing how it is not as easy as everyone thinks.
Norwegian curling team pants! I can't wait!
Good grief Penn is tall. That poor man has further to fall and more spread doing the splits. This looked very fun, great job everyone.

Curling is my favorite winter sport to watch. This was awesome!! ❤️❤️❤️well done for trying something new!!!
I love curling. It's my favorite Olympic sport. It looks like you had a marvelous time!

You will have such fun curling Penn & Kim. I urge you to continue.
I always love how its a quiet solemn sport...everywhere outside of the US, because we shout our heads off at the stone
I feel like this is basically bocce ball on ice 🤣🤣🤣
Great video! You guys are so fun!! We love trying new things on our channel too!!
I always say, 'Curling rocks the house! '
You curling aficionados catch the subtleties.
Loved it! I grew up with heavy old curling stones in our house - my dad bought them in Scotland and I still have no idea why. He never did this 😂
I haven't curled since high school in Canada. I notice some changes, like there wasn't a PVC thingy to lean on. Also the brooms are quite different. Sure wish we had a curling club here in Washington.
Does everyone use the lean on thing or is that a training aide?

Good job Penn and Kim - curling is fun to watch.
This was sooo Fun!! Loved this episode!
People need to watch the movie “Men with Brooms” to understand the allure of curling.
You all did an amazing job for first timers, good on 'ya! I think the closest I'll get to curling is the tabletop game set I put on my Amazon wish list awhile ago, after coming across some playoffs for the Olympics on TV. 😊

This looks like it would be fantastic for developing core strength. Now I want to find somewhere to do curling in Arkansas. lol

Here in Cheyenne, WY, we do Chicken Curling every winter! You should come out and try it!

I love watching curling!!!
I love Penn’s confidence 😁
It’s a Roomba. You cannot tell me otherwise. Calling it a Roomba forever and ever amen
Hey, that's fun that you got to go and try it!
This was great! I always wondered how they scored. Now I know!
Where's Steve? Great clip, laughed a lot. Curling is like watching paint dry, I'm addicted to it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Y'ALL!
Is that a cannabis leaf on Penn’s jacket?😂. Curling is my favorite Winter Olympic sport!
You guys made it look so fun. Made me want to learn curling.
You guys are a blast
That was a lot of fun. Thanks.
I actually watch the curling, so thus was SO much fun to watch. Onto the next event!
Curling is my favorite sport after I watch 2018 Olympics. I got fascinated and it grew on me. Go Team USA!!! or Go Team Holderness!!!

Hilarious. I'd love to try that!

SHUFFLEBOARD!!!
looks like so much fun
We curled once a year for several years. Was a fun outing with friends!
Can someone please explain what exactly the sweeping is supposed to accomplish? Does it smooth the ice to make it go farther?
It does a number of things, keeps the ice clean, helps keep the rock on line when it starts to pull (curl) too much, it can pull a slow rock in deeper. And yes you are right - it does smooth the ice in a way. The ice is "pebbled" (small water droplets sprayed on the ice before starting). TIL that shuffleboard is a 4 letter word.

I do curling and it is so fun
