Brooooo, owner operator here. Thank you. I got a new coolant reservoir and I tightened up that overflow cap wayyyyyyyy too much. I thought it had to be tight af lol
Im currently having this issue! ima try to follow your advice tomorrow and come back here with the results, thank you! 4 yrs later still helps man thank you.
It’s the Thermostat or your heads going out make sure you don’t over fill over flow reservoir there made to stay 3/4 full not all the way so it could breath if not the reservoir will crack.
thx for your video. i went couple of times to the mecanic and off course i spend money and he coldn.t solve the problem. now with your help the problem is solved.
mrt 2000 No! Tighten those caps down. If the coolant system isn’t under pressure when at normal operating temp, THATS BAD! Please read your owners manual!
That was the problem? A mechanic shop makes me do the overhaul on my truck and now l have no money and no truck because after the overhaul l start having a lot of fail codes, no power and a lot of more problems like 4 weeks before the overhaul same shop replace me the air compressor. Now l have no money and no truck.
I have leaks of coolant on the EGR coolant, I let out pressure from the coolant caps so after I did that I continue driving the rest of my way 30 miles. I’m almost to my destination but I’ll keep update when I get there. I just want to know with my problem what could possibly be the issue ?
What about the opposite. The antifreeze is not circulating and heater is not working. I replaced Thermostat, egr cooler, made the heater lines straight through. Change the cooling system filter.
I tried this (I only loosened a quarter turn)and my truck started to dump to much coolant... the mechanic from my work said the caps are designed to depressurize.. and this is a good temporary fix... the permanent fix is change the caps 30$$... problem fixed
If you slowly loosen the top cap(when water is still hot) you should hear air escaping..dont remove it past that point steam/or water can shoot out and burn you if you open too fast or too much... if there is no noise it mean the normal pressure is not building..this is a good way to see if your pressure cap(the one on the side of the coolant reservoir) is not working aka regulating pressure...
Servant Thought the reason I asked is because when I turn my truck off and wait till the morning to check the antifreeze it still has lots of pressure and antifreeze will come out of the over flow
My truck's coolant tank had a visible leak so I changed it with a new one and six months later the new reservoir started leaking. Now I'm thinking of changing the cap as well. The cap's rubber is a bit damaged.
Brother I have the same problem, the water from the tank goes from the top to the side and I know if it is the engine head or the air compressor and the EGR or the thermostat has me crazy
Both caps need to be tight coolant system is designed to operate at 15 pounds of pressure if you have to bleed of pressure by loosening caps you have you other problems
Maaan you guys are awesome I was having a issue with my coolant leaking from top cap..and I said to myself I don't remember my coolant being at the bottom like that...then I saw these comments..I already knew the reservoir had to be bad anyway but I overlooked that small detail..im not having a pressure issue thank god..off to the dealer tomorrow...gotta love youtube 😀
Mine is when the rpm gets higher in order to using engine brake or accelerating too much on gas pedal and then getting overheating noises with check engine lights coming on and it's never stopping until you turn off the truck
That will happen if you followed this videos advise. Coolant systems are designed to be under 15 psi pressure at normal operating temp. Go to a Detroit or freightliner dealer and get the codes looked into.
I have same issue also exactly, please if anyone know the issue? Because I rebuilt the engine and also changed the water pump and thermostat, but still I have the same issue, please anyone can help me?
Loosing a cap will not solve a high coolant psi issue ! It’s making psi from an issue internally . A cap is designed to be tight and most are set at 15psi system psi before allowing coolant psi relief ..Misinformation is not the ticket .. js
Both caps must be tight. Your cap is probably defective, go and buy a new cap for around 30$... if you still have hugh pressure problem then you probably have a problem with the air compressor or engine head gasket. I had that problem on two DD15, one was the cap and the other one was the head gasket.....
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY you say it purged the system, it stopped leaking, overflowing or having bubbles?? Did you retighten cap, did you have to keep adding coolant

check your air compressor, that was the problem on mine, the air compressor was passing air into the coolant system, check if the hose that goes into the air dryer if is oily , also the coolant reservoir needs to be original from dealer

Why is there an empty space in the middle of the Resevoir tank?

I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago wasn't the thermostat wasn't a water pump turn out to be the EGR cooler needed to be replaced
Would be good video with the pressure before and after repair done

@@cartask3214 not while it's cold as the coolant heats up it expands creating pressure...

So what is it if you do not have any pressure on your system with the water temp at 190 degrees
What’s the purpose of that second cap? The one on the left side of the coolant tank?
Can you please tell me what is the normal operating turbo vacuum pressure for detroit 60 12.7 under normal situation?
20-50psi of boost. It depends on how much fuel is put to the engine.

check out your air compressor, remove the piwer steering pump if you can hear air leaking thats your problem
Good, it is two tanks and has to do with the pressure regulated!

Like what?
Air compressor, bad EGR cooler, or a bad head gasket
Amen ! This is the most ignorant “how to” I’ve seen in regards to high coolant psi!
@@ralphx5626 how do i know which one was bad?i got the same problem
Check the one on the side
Coolant overflow needs replaced. Shouldn’t have coolant in bottom like that, it’s internally cracked.
Exactly
Interesting point.
Yes I agree this guys trying to sugar it it's cracked like that guys advise.

u have cylinder problem
The reservoir is over filled,

check if the cap on the side of the reservoir is not too tight, if it is unscrew it a little bit, let me know if it fixed your problem

what would a bad thermostat do to coolant pressure
If it fails on closed position truck would over heat, also I would think low pressure on coolant hose coming out of thermostat
looks like coolant tank is faulty designed just like Volvo truck

That reservoir is bad and that's the problem with the pressure being unstable.
I think this advise is wrong.cracked or blown head gasket the water put regulates water fan cools motor block what bull.
