      Problem is not betting, problem is lower ranked players are not getting money because tournaments are stealing away money from the totality of the players in the first place. Slams share %15 of their revenue and they earn €1,1 billion in a year. And it's like %19 for ATP tournaments which earn €563 million annually. Obviously it's more of an issue with slams as they earn more but give less percentage but those are pathetic, disastrous revenue sharing percenateges nonetheless. This is why Pospisil's vision consists of increasing revenue via negotiation and funding ITF circuit players who lose money on the tour and have to revert to match fixing to literally continue their career. If players are able to at least double their revenue sharing percentages, then significant step would be taken to solve the problem of match fixing.

      @@MM-bx1ei don't disagree at all, this should be happening but I can guarantee you if there's any money on the table somewhere it'll be taken.
      My take on it is as it currently is, you already know prehand what is the projected prize money and expense for the Futures tournaments, many players including myself knew where this is going and that you need to invest not make profit in this phase. I quit early but I also happen to grow up with the two brothers mentioned here and am telling you it's not always about having enough money to survive on the circuit, the temptation of making an extra dollar will never go away.
      Again am not in anyway against increasing the prize money and have a proper ratio between expenses and returns but don't expect betting to slow down one bit. The concept of betting itself is flawed and at it's core destroys any fair competition.

    • @memememe843
      @memememe843 4 роки тому +4

      @maccajoe agree. No one has successfully made corruption go away, and higher pay at the lower levels would be good for a bunch of reasons, but that won’t stop some players who know they will never break the top 50 from cashing in. It just needs to be policed as well as possible.
      I do think higher pay for those starting out or competitive but lower ranked would be great for the sport, but I am not sure the tournaments are necessarily holding back. Putting on those tournaments seem expensive as heck. The venue, the people, the marketing, the food, and much more. A lot of expenses there.

    I am both a gambler and a tennis fan. The most unfortunate part of match fixing in tennis is that, if done correctly, it is completely undetectable. The examples covered in this video were sloppily organized by wannabe low-level mob guys who didn't cover their tracks. A sophisticated operation bets on the other guy as well. Not only does that lower any red flags, but it even helps the fixers as they will get better odds on their guy. The inherent greed of stupid criminals is the only reason we know about these instances. There are countless others we do not know about and will continue to not know about.

      Wrote a research paper on performance enhancing drugs in tennis in college in 2012, definitely very interesting as well. It must be rampant, as with match fixing, just so many players, only so many players able to be drug tested/ able to be caught for fixing, masking agents for performance enhancers exist... Not just steroids, there's "blood doping" / other kinds of strength and endurance enhancers. Could go on about it, only so many have been caught/ called out on it, and of course the ATP looked the other way / dropped all charges when the legendary 90's-early 00's player tested positive for a banned substance because he denied it (one that probably does more harm than good, and maybe in grand scheme of things we should admit most of them must be on something/ even established players having multiple coaches/ endorsements/ nutritionists, etc. are unfair advantages against up and comers... But what can you do. Still funny to think for how "clean" the sport is perceived as over the years, the deeper you dig, is very not... Still yes, it is an entertainment product for money, above all, whether it has as much integrity as they want/ need it to appear as or not

Silent bans for PED’s, match fixing, etc. I know a few players who have been banned, but have never been up close and personal with anything like it. Most of the guys who do it are struggling monetarily and are trying to make a living. The need to raise the prize money at the lower levels is very much needed.

    I live in Australia and back in the 90's there was a black American basketball player playing professionaly for the Sydney Kings National Basketball League team. He was a good player, very likeable and popular with his team mates and fans. He tried out for the NBA in the off season didn't make it and came back for a second stint with the Kings the next season here. The first few games were played then out of no where a bunch of federal police flew over from America and arrested him and took him back to the states where he was convicted for "point shaving" along with his other 4 starting team mates from his college team from 5 years previous. It was a shocking reality to us here in Oz.

      @gcwrestling888 4 роки тому +3

      Absolutely. Tennis secretly doesn't mind the lower-level match fixing accusations as it deflects attention from the top-level doping accusations that could truly rock the foundation of the sport. They can find 1,000 Nicolas Kickers, but there's only one Roger, one Rafa, one Novak. If it were found that, for example, one of the Big 3 were doping, they would turn into Barry Bonds and it would leave an indelible mark on the sport and its popularity.

      Operation Puerto: WADA is trying to make public the names of the 36 athletes involved
      The World Anti-Doping Agency already knows the names of the 36 athletes involved in the largest doping case in history, but they cannot make it public.
      We have learned that eight months after the World Anti-Doping Agency definitively received those more than 200 bags of blood from Operation Puerto, they are still fighting to try to make public the names of the 36 athletes involved in the plot. Why hasn't the name been known yet? The lawyers are still involved in legal issues, trying to continue with the process that according to what they say, the crime has prescribed.
      Incredible but true. The former director of WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency), has attended a congress at the INEF and he has spoken for the AS newspaper where he reveals that there is something dark behind all this. "Someone in Spain should have taken care that the appeal was not delayed so long"' he commented. And it is that crimes in Spain, once 10 years have passed, are no longer valid. They prescribe. By chance that Operation Puerto exploded on May 23, 2006 and the resolution of this case occurred on June 14, 2016, just 22 days after the deadline.
      The whole world is looking forward to the list of 36 athletes who have been identified in the plot. Of all of them, 23 are known to be cyclists, the rest say that there are footballers, tennis players and athletes. In El Español they reveal some key names that the bags had, which must be remembered that the name of the athlete was never put on them, but a nickname. Thus, we see names like María, RSOC, Rosa, César, 101, Cowboy, Pepito, Obélix, Huerta, Amigo de Birillo, Clasicomano / Luigi or Urco / Urko. For now, we only know with certainty the names of 6 cyclists involved. Of the rest, absolutely nothing. Why? Clearly, there are awkward names that are not intended to come to light.
      So, everything will be in the hands of some lawyers and whether they will be able to find a legal way to make those 36 names public even though more than 10 years have passed since the beginning of the case. Will we ever know the names of those athletes?

    This is absolutely 100% going on in every area of tennis especially the ATP. I watch a lot of tennis matches and it almost always goes to a 3rd set. it's not as simple as lose win betting. There are so many live bets that can be done and it is all absolutely rigged to a certain extent. Players always ironically lay back in the 2nd set and lose after they just won the first set 6-1. Doesn't make sense at all. Theres no stopping it either. Disappointing and it's pretty much stealing

      I agree it happens a lot but equally winning a set 6-1 and then losing the next set 6-1 is very easily done when the margins are so small in tennis. Just because a player is dominating the first set it doesn't necessarily mean they will dominate the whole match. It's no different to football when the momentum swings in the second half and fixing a football match at the highest level is almost impossible

    This isn’t surprising. When you pay shit to low ranks they have to find other means. Match fixing in tennis is not out of greed it’s out of need for survival. Go look at Noah Rubin and his documentary on rise in suicide cases cause the ATP refuses to pay low ranked players. No other sport has players begging for pennies out of top 100. However in tennis if you are out of top 100 your basically broke. Think about that before you judge these players. It’s a complicated issue people.

    back in Wim 2008 when I was still interest in tennis quite much I will always put on the player I've root for to show the support on MSN Messenger, but it turns out everyone I put they are lost, and that works until my friend asked me to do so and they get the result they needed.
    Fast forward to RG 2009 I try to do that again and my friend asked me to do again since he wants to see all-Russian final, and yeas I made it since the the Kuznetsova and Safina are both in final LOL, since then my friend and me dubbed it as

    For the non-degenerates out there, I will point out that "live betting props" give players several interesting ways to make insane amounts of money without actually throwing the entire game and losing valuable ATP points. For example, if a player is up, say 5 games to 1 in a set and they are about to serve out the set, there are high-paying props (especially if the player is known to have a killer serve) where you can bet if they're going to lose that upcoming game "to love". By default that pays +1600 but I've seen that pay upwards of +2500. If you're obliterating your opponent by several games and are confident you can afford to drop a service game, that kind of thing can absolutely happen (maybe even twice in a game!) and probably never be detected. (BTW, there was a pretty interesting and famous scandal involving live tennis betting, where the umpire was actually involved, as he took a "little too much time" updating the little touchpad with the official scoring, while live-bettors sitting in the stands were able to place wagers on props that have already happened in real time. Crazy stuff out there.. eyy-o!) ..

    So Davydenko was cruising vs a player he was supposed to beat, money was being placed on the minnow and then out of nowhere Davydenko quits, and yet he wasn't found guilty? That literally sounds like the easiest case to solve. I feel like in a lot of these circumstances, the governing bodies hide/cover up evidence as a way of saving face. I think the same happened with Lance Armstrong. He was almost too good for the sport from an image/money point of view to out and ban. It was ultimately the people who he was bullying to go along with his cheating that brought him down. After all, he never apparently failed a test.

    Yikes. I mean, I've heard money issues brought up a lot especially since the C started. And that in and of itself can be one of the reasons why these things happen. But to counter and and to go into what you said, this is why education is important. And I don't just mean academics. Like education about how the professional circuit works and at the same time, have an education that you can fall back on. No one can truly predict, even talented juniors, how well their professional career will turn out. The media also tends to portray and make well known top players in the top 50 for singles generally, and so forth which in turn can attract sponsors and such. But that's not necessarily something you just want to bank on, if you're officially on tour. Last i heard, unless you're in the top 70, you're barely breaking even. So I believe it is very important that before one turns professional, they should truly take time to think about possible expenses and things they may have to do to supplement. Because the system and what they pay may not change for a long while. Having something to fall back on will help a lot. Correction, having something that you can fall back on and also enjoy.

    Match fixing has gone to a level of unthinkable levels in Tennis. Top players are seemingly into it.
    I think people who watch B. Paire matches can easily find out that he is fixer.
    What was the last time a player lost 2 sets and a break Up and still lost a Grand Slam final. And Zverev did that.
    It must be either Thiem lost the first set purposefully or Zverev lost purposefully.
    The Khachanov vs Garin match in French Open was one of the purposeful losing case. Garin was clearly the better player on the court still he was decided to lose.

It takes an awful lot of dedication just to become a pro period, meaning most of these guys really are passionate about legitimately doing well as players, or at least start out that way. So maybe if the minor league guys weren't literally living paycheck-to-paycheck just to continue competing then fixing wouldn't be such an attractive option.
