Although "Smile" is the song folks will remember because of the raw emotion, "Razzle Dazzle" was my highest scoring song of the contest. They just killed it in all areas.
I'm not sure I agree. That the song came in second (or maybe third, with Smile coming in second) is a given, but going up against "Dance with my father again" by Signature is a VERY tough sell.
I just wanna take a second to talk about their subtle expressions that make the jokes and visual gags really land. While the jokes are obvious, the movements and expressions make it incredibly funny. For example, when Roger retorts after being accused of having rusty hinges, as he retaliates, the face and hand motions are just perfect and convincing, and not overdone. Same when they're going down in the line insulting each other (ding-dong, fatso, grandpa, mommy). That whole thing visually flows so perfectly. Overall just showing how good they are at what they do.
3:22 he kept that pitch extremely stable until the very end when they "vibrato-ed" out of it. Other basses I've seen drift sharp as they start to run out of air.
Pro tip guys: Right click (for mouse users) or lightly tap with two fingers (for laptop tract pad users) over the video and select 'loop.' You're welcome.
Rogers octave with Myron at the tag is PHENOMENAL. That whole tag is out of this world. Especially if you focus on pairings of voices and how they lock. Cheese and rice, main street is so good.
I just have absolutely NO idea how you can get a better performance from a quartet than this one. Very, very well done. Thank you for it, and congratulations!
I just LOVE Tony’s timbre and how his voice opens up on that last chord. Those are some serious trained lungs and vocal chords. Also, I love his face during that chord. You can see him do a quick look to the side, then back up with a nod and smile in total appreciation that they nailed it!
Vincent Strange A significant water pipe in Planet Hollywood, where this was, broke an hour before this. Half the casino was closed off and it delayed the concert by an hour or so while we all waited in the mall. But, we did have some "flash barbershop mob" moments 👍
We had several contingency plans in place, but fortunately the worst of it was only a 40 minute delay! To say we were relieved and grateful is an understatement.
I've listened to this about 50 times, and replayed the tag at the end about 200 times. What a performance. This might be my favourite tag, for the music and the meaning.
The bass singer holds his note so perfect. There's a lot of great bass singer but his is just so smooth and he holds it even smoother. Main Street is the best barbershop quartet, funny, and they sing their keys I get goosebumps from their talent
THAT, people is AUTHENTIC, REAL singing, my Dad sang in a quartet for years all the way through college and beyond. I love to hear these singers. have all my life...
The thing about Main Street is that they blend so well I struggle to pick the different lines from each singer. I'm the first to admit that I'm not the best at aural but with most music and other barbershops I can follow each part fairly successfully. With Main Street, I'll pick the melody (from the tenor? I don't have barbershop background...) and the bass (because, bass!) but Mike and Rogers lines are usually the hardest to find. (Mike especially, and it's definitely not because I can't hear him. My brain KNOWS its a 4 part harmony but can't follow the line to save my life...) I really am looking forward to their next performances, but am really sad they can't compete together anymore.
They can't compete together any more? As an Englishman who loves American Barbershop quartets, mayI ask why that is? Is there a limit to how many competitions you can compete in together or something or a different reason? I just love listening to Main Street. Awesome harmonies and funny with it. :)
OneSneakySloth... melody is usually in the lead (Tony); tenor is the highest (Roger) and is usually a harmony line. Agreed that it can be hard to separate the parts when it's so well balanced. :) And the baritone (Mike) can be especially hard to pick out in any quartet because there's no melodic cohesion to it; it flits around to whatever note the chord requires. But the most important thing to remember is: Main Street rocks.
@@matthewrandell5055 They still do, I believe! They still do some chapter shows and do the Association of International Champions Shows. So, they're still around a little bit.
It's impossible to smash the like button as many times as this song deserves. Incredible performance! Congrats you guys! I loved singing with you all up in Rexburg, ID. Thanks for your concert and your help with our quartet. We are doing a performance this Nov, getting the Old Gang back together. Again, so glad you guys finally got that 1st place! Wooo!

Indeed, thanks. Oh, and for the record, a water main did break, delaying the contest for about an hour while they mopped the place up. Yeah, this year's competition was one for the record books.
random question but seeing as I found this channel with no knowledge for barbershop. Why do people keep saying this is Main Streets last performance? I love their work and I'm a little worried 😂😂
Suvi Schramm Once you win a contest you cannot compete again with the same quartet, so this is the last time they will compete, however they do have other performance responsibilities for BHS now that they've won.
The were likely saying it because it was 1) their last performance for this year's competition, 2) they were planning on breaking up after this year (I heard one of them moved across the country) and so prior to them winning (which means they will perform additional times such as at next year's convention/competition) this was what they anticipated to be their last set performing together ever...
According to the channel, a water pipe broke at a neighboring hotel and flooded the venue hosting the competition. The flooding happened about an hour before Main Street performed, and they decided to reference it.
The last performance by Main Street? I doubt it. They'll likely be part of Midwinter for a while, as well as the AIC show. There's also their swan song that's going to be part of the Orlando show next year. Seriously, this year's has to be one of the best competitions in recent memory. And with the return of Lemon Squeezy next year along with Signature likely making things interesting, things are definitely looking up. Fortunately, next year I'm going to be in greater Atlanta, so I'll hopefully have a better chance of making the convention than this year.
What better way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of your first gold medal and the 10th anniversary of your last gold medal than with a gold medal
Then next year, tony will have his 25th anniversary of his second gold, and his swan set with his 5th gold medal
The bass is off the chain. He can hold a note to save his life.
If you held him submerged in water for 30 minutes he would probably survive. Great breath control to Myron!
Tim Schütz good for you buddy! Here’s a trophy for ya!
Tim Schütz same, it’s still quite cool though and he has great control
@@timschutz9068 You can hold that while doing choreography, 3 minutes into a song, and after singing a few sets that day? Good for you.
Myron must have a third lung in there or something for all that air.

And so well tuned!
I'm just going to sit here with this on permanent repeat.

Oh, that chord resolved beautifully in the tag! Honestly though, it's time for first place for Tony and the gang.

So Bodacious Main Street. Your the greatest, and I watch your shows time after time.
The accuracy of the tenor is amazing if you listen 2-3 times.
One of the greats. I'm going to miss seeing how they're going to (re)-do Pop Songs Medley.
I proclaim myself officially razzle-dazzled by this rendition of a favorite from "Chicago."
This is the pinnacle of the art form. This is the Platonic ideal of barbershop, mathematical perfection.
And of course it was arranged by Clay Hine. Genius he is.
