The reporter is ignorant. He kept saying they'd be doing hard time in Federal Prison if the feds would prosecute.
I've spent time in both State and Fed custody. Fed time is easy time. So easy in fact that it would be a viable retirement plan verses a nursing home. Free room and board, free meals. Free medical. Free Dental. Free vision. And they have oppourtunites to earn enough money to buy your commissary, and the inmates from Foreign Countries are able to send a little money home to their loved ones. They also have well stocked commissaries. You can buy 6 packs of sodas, the line of little Debbie snacks, ice cream pints, name brand tennis shoes, chips, candy bars, and when I was there two packs of ciggerettes per week. I've heard though that they have since banned smoking.
Bank robbery has strict minimum sentences sentences and can go up to 20 years if more than $1000 is stolen - there is little leeway in plea bargaining.
@@FauxQue-yk8dt I think he meant "hard time" as a much longer sentence under Federal law than what they would face under state laws.
@@Mlogan11 If you don't make any threats, and you don't display a weapon, and your record is clean, under the US Sentencing Guidelines you'd receive 5 years for bank robbery.
I have some stories I will come back later and share. I met several real life bank robbers in the BoP.

It just sucks for the business owners because their property gets destroyed for an ATM they don't even own. This will lead to them not even having an ATM in the store anymore.
Cash is obsolete. I have not used cash even once in well over a year.

I don’t think criminals are that smart to know to only hit private atms because of the law. bank atms are harder to get cause they are in the wall.

In the state I live in a guy used a car stolen 1500 miles away to steal an atm once and the cops chased him down and shot him. I haven't seen it happen again but i know the news doesn't always report it long enough to always see it. It isn't any kind of regular problem here though. Blue states have the problem regularly.
