  • Rainbow River is a crystal clear spring run near Florida’s West Coast, about an hour North of Tampa, and an hour and a half NorthWest of Orlando. It's accessible to divers ONLY by a Water Taxi located at KP Hole, a Marion County Park.
STEP 1: Find “K.P. Hole”, a county park open year round 8am to 5pm, & even later in the summer. It’s about $15 per diver to enter. The good news is, we’ve already found it for you:

However, you’ll need to arrive by noon or earlier, because…
STEP 2: You’ll need to pay the water taxi around $10 cash per diver. They’re there every weekend, but call ahead to arrange it on a weekday.

They’ll take you on a 20ish minute ride up river and drop you off. Ask the boat captain about the different drop off spots and how far they are, depending on how long you want to dive. Once you’re off the boat, zig zag your way along the bottom while drifting slowly back down stream, so you’re able to take in the incredible visuals and wildlife.
With depths of up to 25’, you’ll see why this is called Rainbow River! Stunning blue water, neon green grass, turtles, birds, fishies, & the occasional otter, all set against the backdrop of glowing white sand bottoms, and even little boils bubbling out clear water along the way.
These are freshwater springs literally coming out of the ground.
If you don't have a dive flag (which are required), usually they have some to lend you when you arrive - just be sure and ask in advance!
Remember when going down the river, poke your head up once in a while, ESPECIALLY so you don’t miss your exit! Missing your exit can be a time consuming ordeal, since it’s tough to swim upstream and not always an easy exit later - in which case you’ll still need to walk with dive gear on your back to the park. So keep an eye out when it’s been a while, and ask the captain how far and what landmarks to let you know you’re getting close.
PS: Don’t forget to bring your snorkel, just in case! If you get low on air, you can continue your trip without missing out, since the majority of the dive is shallow.
