Thanks for putting this video together in such a methodical, logical, and well described manner. I was able to change my 2013 Model S battery with no specific difficulties by following your procedure
Thank you for this video. I have very little skills when it comes to working on cars but with the help of this video I was able to change the battery in my 2013 Model S.
Wow, that is one of the worst 12v battery placements I have ever seen. Model 3 significantly improved this to an immeasurable degree. Thanks for the video, very informative!
And still this video stands the test of time just changed out my 12v battery, replaced with Lithium from Ohmmu though, and this video made it so easy thank you everyone at EG!
Follow up and tips for others- I was successful in replacing the 12volt. I bought an OEM from Tesla and so didn't do the terminal modifications. One thing I would suggest to anyone trying this: 1. Old plastic is not very flexible. I snapped a tab removing the filter housing. 2. Removing the nuts for me by hand gave me more control. Thank you for the tutorial video.
@@BrenttheGreat if I remember correctly, I think it said something like “12v battery low, change soon”. And my soon was like three weeks? Man it was a pain in my version of S. Almost would suggest just a mobile service if you wanted to save some frustration. 12v is packed right up under the fuse box and cabin air intake.
Thanks so much for this video! I'm on the last step connecting the negative, but as soon as some power gets back into the system, the alarm starts going off!! And it's deafening. But it's not showing up on my app yet, so I cant turn it off 😂
For some reason when i'm going to connect the negative pole the negative pole is always sparking as crazy, i'm doing everything after the book. Sometimes the car wakes up without me pushing the brake peddal. Its the same on both of my 2014 TMS 85. find it annoying when I turn the modules/computers etc of on the screen and then it wakes up by itself.
I have a 2014 model s p85 in New Zealand and is completely different setup and on opposite side which makes that more difficult but successful in 2 hours
Scott, I just replaced my battery that was 7.5 years old, though I don’t know if that’s normal. I bought my battery from the Tesla service center near me for $165. Though it didn’t come with the adapter, you can easily remove the one on the old battery and reuse it on the new battery. The new battery is a DCS-33UNCR.
Hi, Thanks for the video. On Gruber's battery swap video, they connect the 12V positive first, as you do it as well, but then they connect the High voltage cable and then, after the High volt cable has been connected, they connect the negative of the 12V battery. You connect 12V positive, then negative and then the High Voltage connector. What is the right sequence?
Wow amazing video , I’m at the part where i removes the battery and i bought a original Tesla battery from Tesla , any videos on installing the tesla battery?
I want to connect 12V battery to an inverter to achieve 110V or 220V. Which two wires are the positive and negative terminals of the 12V battery? What is the maximum power that a 12V battery can handle?
Would you happen to know the part number for that OEM fitting that sits between the fuse box and battery? I need to go back to OEM but cannot find source for the part, not even a part number.
I followed the steps to disconnect the battery, but when I unscrewed the negative terminal it sparked a few times and the alarm went off until I removed the negative terminal all the way. What did I do wrong? The car was for sure powered off, I disconnected the fireman’s loop, unscrewed the negative terminal. 2013 model S. Any help appreciated.
Wow they made battery replacement so complicated compared to other cars😒.. thats explain why Tesla service is all tied up. Is there a battery that can last longer so i dont need to do this often? Any recommendations? Mine is a RWD 70 2015

Did you have to make any changes to the ground cable? You disconnected original battery's NEG with vertical screw, but connected with battery clamp's horizontal screw.
@@ElectrifiedGarage --- I still can't find anything about an adapter for the NEG side. ~11:20 video guy says "Negative terminal can stay." Sales website states: "2012-3/2016 RWD Cars require adapter post which we include. (See video for installation with post adapter)". "Adapter post" means one, right? The POS adapter post is well explained in the video, as is almost everything else (Its a really good instructional video), but... DID THEY MAKE A CHANGE TO THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CLAMP? Or does the original Tesla clamp fit around the NEG post of the aftermarket battery? 4:38-4:40 of video has brief view of original clamp, which looks a lot smaller than the clamp shown at 17:42. This leads me to think that the ground cable/clamp is also modified.
VTAnne Name the negative terminal comes with an adapter for the battery from the manufacturer. It’s already on the battery when you get it. You don’t have to do anything additional.
@@ElectrifiedGarage Yeah I want to avoid the unnecessary writes to memory. My car is on a lot, between driving, 120v charging, sentry mode. It's mind boggling that they didn't make the storage removable.

Hey there, I replaced my 12v battery but it’s still throwing errors and showing 0 miles indicator. Also windows aren’t really rolling up. Weird.. anything I’m missing?
I replaced the battery and followed all your steps, than after the install i got many bms warrnings, and now i cant drive my car. Can someone please help me fix this????
It would be great if someone fabricated an adapter to allow us to use the standard terminal configuration. A standard battery is much cheaper than the reverse terminals required for the MS configuration.

Excellent video, extremely helpful, well explained. Thank you for doing this! I used this to remove the battery when replacing the upper control arm.
I usually put some gaffers tape on the bottom of the j-hook before I takeoff the 10mm nut.
What a performance. I'm sure that with a little more effort, they could make changing the battery almost impossible.
Yeah there's a reason why they went away from this design lol
