Thank you for your helpful lectures. I have a question: Why do overweight people feel warmer in winter, considering that the type of fat in their bodies is white adipose tissue, not brown adipose tissue?
There are scientific studies published showing increased BAT in response to cold acclimatization (12 to 15 degree centigrade) on regular basis for few hours (4 to 6 hours) a day.
If I understand correctly, the situation you explain from 6:20 to 7:30, is that what happens if the heat would have been produced in white adipose tissue for example? Because later on you said if the ADP level rises, it reacts with the fatty acids and it recovers the efficiency of the electron transfer chain. Is that what happens in brown adipose tissue?
Yes it happens in brown adipose tissue, please remember brown adipose tissue also contains TAGs which can be broken down into fatty acids. While comparing with white adipose tissue brown adipose tissue has more mitochondria, more capillaries and more neuronal connections. This way regulation and response to cold is much faster.
Gracias por los comentarios. Lamentablemente, en este momento solo tengo subtítulos en inglés. Dejé la opción abierta para la traducción a otros idiomas si alguien está interesado en contribuir.
I am addicted to your lectures

Thanks a lot Dr this is the only video I found in UA-cam which explains about BAT cells ever so nicely

How do you build up brown adipose tissue? How much cold exposure does one need on a regular basis?
