Lionel came up with the concept for 'We Are the World- And Michael implemented it and brought it to reality, along with Lionels added writing creativity!!
@@Pinkhearts219 MJ did all the work when he didn't do all the work because he was such a perfectionist!-So...Picture someone that you may know who has the condition 'Obsessive Compulsive Disorder'-Now pair that Disorder as a part of Michael Jackson's attributes in the music industry; and that revelation will hit you like a ton of bricks!- 🧱
Lionel is secure in himself he couldn't write or sing such beautiful melodic songs if he didn't have authentic love there is a realness with this man that's why love can recognise love in another he knew Michael was none of those things he was accused of. He was pure in heart and deed....
Great video! May I make a suggestion though? I watch your videos on my TV. I really hate how at the end, the suggested in-video links pop up on the screen and block the last bit of footage showing. I would suggest ending each video by letting the footage completely play out and fully end, THEN adding a still shot of Michael that extends the video by about 20-30 seconds, giving the suggested in-video links space to pop up without blocking the screen from actual footage. I really hope that makes sense.
After watching this interview, I think back to what Smokey Robinson said about Michael Jackson too. Both he and Lionel basically said the same thing. After that horrific 1984 Pepsi commercial accident, where his hair caught on fire from the pyrotechnics. His scalp/head was permanently burned. I can't even begin to imagine the pain that he endured. Leading to his addiction to taking pain killers. That one event was essentially the beginning of the end. Very Sad. 😔
" I'd like to take sometime and get away, then they'll say Is that boy still alive? The weak that really started taking pills, what a thrill Only the strong survive Father always told me You won't live a quiet life They start to wondering where have you been I feel their envious looks at me And then stand here in my shoes And get addict of my blues It's the price of fame You pay the price of fame So don't you ever complain, It's the price of fame ... " ~ Michael Jackson
Someone as brilliant and talented as Michael Jackson could have known how to play his songs on an instrument if he had wanted to. He had no need for it and it wasn't necessary for him to be able to, so he never focused his efforts in that direction. But he could have. And with his sense of timing and rhythm I have long thought he would have been an incredible drummer.
So the eighties were my erra, and Lionel was not in the same solar system as Michael Jackson.....Michael Jackson completely dominated the eighties, and there was not even a close second......
I was a child when MTV launched, and they were hesitant to start playing black artists. MJ was always the one to wait for, closely followed by Prince. By that metric, Lionel was a distant third.
Lionel's greatest feat was as a songwriter. If I'm not mistaken Lionel wrote a number 1 song every year for a decade or something crazy like that. But the 80s was the decade of the mega star and there were others such as Prince, Tina, Whitney to name a few, who were all competing at one point in time to be the biggest or best that they could be. Competing doesn't mean your better, but that you strive to be better. Lennon & McCartney and Brian Wilson pushed each other to produce some of the most brilliant music in the late 60s. The competition produced albums like Pet Sounds and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Michael made Lionel Richie up he a game and not rest on his laurels. Not just with him but the music industry in general. Lionel Richie was 15yrs older than Michael. Lionel career could have been over before Michael turned 20 if Richie didn’t focus. Michael indirectly saved Lionel Richie from being a washed up 70’s star.
Muchas cosas para comentar sobre el vídeo. 1.
It still annoys me when people say “9 year old”. Michael was 11 when their first single dropped on Motown. The problem is that in the press they were told to say he was 9 cause it was “cuter”
Well that's why Lionel probably counted from 9 to 11, because he is acknowledging both of those realities, to the public he was 9 but he was 11 within the industry.
lol Lionel was being delusional - once Mike blew up Lionel wasn’t even a speck in Michael’s radar. He was competing in his own head, Michael was living rent free 😂
What are you talking about? The only time Lionel said Michael was his biggest competition was when Michael was 9 years old. He even said that it was crazy that his biggest competition was a child but that’s how talented Michael was even then. He never pretended like they were neck and neck once MJ became the biggest star in the world.
@@miggs80 oh yes he did. When off the wall came out, during thriller, even bad. Lionel thought he was still a match even then, there’s footage of him saying that.

Lionel came up with the concept for 'We Are the World- And Michael implemented it and brought it to reality, along with Lionels added writing creativity!!
@@kevcart3789 ok that’s cool but I saw interviews where Quincy and MJ said MJ did majority of the work but I respect what your saying
From 7:08 till 9:12 just GOLDEN THOUGHTS and it proves that he is a clever man.
See that grace in his eyes and smile... it gives me tears with a smile..❤❤❤ 5:34
Very Good👍👍👍
Yes Michael Jackson king💥🌟💙💐♥👑👑
Great video! May I make a suggestion though? I watch your videos on my TV. I really hate how at the end, the suggested in-video links pop up on the screen and block the last bit of footage showing. I would suggest ending each video by letting the footage completely play out and fully end, THEN adding a still shot of Michael that extends the video by about 20-30 seconds, giving the suggested in-video links space to pop up without blocking the screen from actual footage. I really hope that makes sense.

'SOMEONE LOVES YOU HERE' MICHAEL.
Me and MJ have the same birthday so I'm excited to turn 33 next Thursday! #TeamVirgo
Great story!! 2 talented artist 🎼
Must’ve been hard for his friends to lose MJ ❤
'SOMEONE LOVES YOU HERE' MICHAEL.
it was Lionel Richie who came close to Michael success in the 80's... NOT Prince. been saying it for years.
'SOMEONE LOVES YOU HERE' MICHAEL.
Very Sad. 😔
Thank you Lionel
" I'd like to take sometime and get away, then they'll say
Is that boy still alive?
The weak that really started taking pills, what a thrill
Only the strong survive
Father always told me
You won't live a quiet life
They start to wondering where have you been
I feel their envious looks at me
And then stand here in my shoes
And get addict of my blues
It's the price of fame
You pay the price of fame
So don't you ever complain,
It's the price of fame ... "

This has to be bait, ain't nobody on the kings level

I love Lionel but he was not on MJ level.
For sure.
Sad he is gone Lionel

we need A movie about Lionel Richie

Theres no comparison between MJ and Lionel, no one aint coming close to Mike!!!
Mike was in competition with people without knowing they all wanted to claim a part of him
So the eighties were my erra, and Lionel was not in the same solar system as Michael Jackson.....Michael Jackson completely dominated the eighties, and there was not even a close second......
I was a child when MTV launched, and they were hesitant to start playing black artists. MJ was always the one to wait for, closely followed by Prince.
By that metric, Lionel was a distant third.
Competing?😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤭
Exactly
'SOMEONE LOVES YOU HERE' MICHAEL.
Lionel is one of the greatest artists ever... MJ is the GREATEST artist ever👑
No one wears a Lionel Ritchie shirt. Absolutely no one. Dude was and still is salty.
Obviously not a Richie fan..Lionel may not have had Michael's numbers, but he was a big deal.. With the Commodores and solo… apples and oranges..
Hold on one year Lionel Represented

If you're competing against someone, there's always jealousy. And jealoysy and envy leads to hatred.. The more envious you are, the more you hate this person. You can like this person a lot, but you also hate them. Frenemy.
Smiling faces sometimes
Pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces
Of the evil that lurks within (can you dig it?)
Smiling faces, smiling faces, sometimes
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof
Oh, oh, yeah
Let me tell you
The truth is in the eyes 'cause the eyes don't lie, amen
Remember, a smile is just a frown turned upside down my friend
So, hear me when I'm saying
Smiling faces, smiling faces, sometimes, yeah
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof
(Beware) beware of the handshake
That hides the snake (can you dig it, can you dig it?)
I'm a-tellin' you beware of the pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Jealousy, (jealousy) misery (misery) envy (envy)
I tell you you can't see behind
Smiling faces, smiling faces, sometimes
Hey, they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof
Hey, your enemy won't do you no harm
(Rap on) 'cause you'll know where he's comin' from
Don't let the handshake and the smile fool ya
Take my advice, I'm only tryin' to school ya
Smiling faces, smiling faces, sometimes
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof

Rivalry? In what universe? Planet of the skunks? Michael was and remains unrivalled.
The 80s had a bunch of talented Superstars. Do we have the abilty today to assembly such talent and create another We are the world2? Who do we bring together for this?
With some deep thinking, we could come up with something beneficial!-👍
@@kevcart3789 Be hard press to find that level of talent. Amazing how we sort of took it for granted.
Lmao what competition? Mike was in a class of his own. His only RIVAL was 82-89 Prince. And even prince was still a tier below.
Prince was never quite at MJs level.
