Went to high school with Jason. Him and I, for a time, were quite tight. He was exceptional THEN. Very talented. His original influences/heroes are Led Zeppelin, KISS, Van Halen (BIG fan), Ratt, Deep Purple, etc. His hair was up to here back then ('80s/early '90s) and big. Some day I'd like to reconnect with him. Glad he's still making music his career. The best to him.
Thanks Jason! Absolutely awesome!!! Finally found the solo part too. Octave higher definitely sounds better on the fast lick. Wish they would have had youtube 30 years ago when I was in high school. I might have learned to play. Awesome that you take time to be "real" in these vids.
This guy has been a huge influence on my lead playing. I find myself using alot of the licks he does. I especially love his 1 1/2 step bends haha (that would like bending from the 12th fret to the 15th)
@solunasunrise It's a Gibson Explorer with EMG 81 and 85 pickups in the bridge and neck respectively. He uses custom gauge strings to tune down that low. His low (what would be) E string is a .70
@MrExplorer260 The palm of his right hand is slightly rested on the strings, muting them to create a heavier deeper sound. A lot of palm muting is done "fully" where the palm is completely on the strings. Where as here he is only slightly muting the string.
@Lokar92 Meh, yeah, I'd like to see the solo too, but its not overly difficult to improv. Its mostly played on the g and b-strings between the 12th and 19th frets aside from the high notes at the very end which are obviously on the high e-string. Its made even easier by the fact that Jason and Zoltan's highs are relatively easy to reproduce.
Ok thanks! :). So I tried drop tuning until the chord patterns landed on the correct frets but I guess I need higher gauge strings because they were really loose when tuned that low.
Brother! Saw you on Counting Cars last night, that was a fuckin' bad ass tattoo you had done of Ace! He was my hero and idol growing up too, so I could totally relate! You kick ass!
@kickmeihitu it should sound alright. the sound would also depend on the gauge of strings that you use. certain string gauges that are lower will make dropped tunings sound horrid.
Thats a barre D chord (from low E to high E string: X35553 / X3555X, I cannot see if he holds the high E string but as I hear he doesn't play so second version is easier)
haha, i just got finished learning the song from this video and then wipe my shirt and find a little bit of drool on my shirt. This is how possessive this lesson is.
I'd think 13s would be fine too. You need a heavier gauge string to go down that low otherwise it's like playing noodles and you can't play noodles. I'll throw this out there too since I learned the hard way years ago. If you have a floating bridge (tremolo) and you put heavier gauged strings on there, you may need to put extra springs on it to keep the bridge from rising when tuning.
+TheDorian120723 actually for you're information diary came out in 1982 and this version came out in 2006 or 07 so you'e argument is invalid. Stupid. Rest in peace Randy
I think this is the best kind of tutorial. Get the people who actually made the song to teach you. Perfect. Love the video
Weeeeell, they didnt make the song
they made their own version, right?
Daniel McAdam the song is a cover by a band called Bad Company
thats almost every band ever but o=k
Yeah and Bad Company didn't originally play it anywhere nearly this intricately either.
For everyone asking about the tuning, this is B Standard:
From low to high:
*B E A D F# B*
Darklegend OriginalOwner thanks Man

@solunasunrise It's a Gibson Explorer with EMG 81 and 85 pickups in the bridge and neck respectively. He uses custom gauge strings to tune down that low. His low (what would be) E string is a .70

@MrExplorer260 The palm of his right hand is slightly rested on the strings, muting them to create a heavier deeper sound. A lot of palm muting is done "fully" where the palm is completely on the strings. Where as here he is only slightly muting the string.
i really wanted to hear the solo...

Where can i find the full song like the one in the intro?
@Lokar92 Meh, yeah, I'd like to see the solo too, but its not overly difficult to improv. Its mostly played on the g and b-strings between the 12th and 19th frets aside from the high notes at the very end which are obviously on the high e-string. Its made even easier by the fact that Jason and Zoltan's highs are relatively easy to reproduce.
So where can i find the full video?
Great guitar player
Is that possible with a regular electric guitar or do you need a specific guitar
the whole thing is on guitar world!!!
Ok thanks! :). So I tried drop tuning until the chord patterns landed on the correct frets but I guess I need higher gauge strings because they were really loose when tuned that low.
HOOKED ON JASON!!!
is that a razorback because i was going to buy it but bought a warlock instead but still its a pretty bad ass guitar.
yesss finaaaaaly Jason Hook ..
how many steps down from e standard is b for each string
@pivetlord13 the low e sounds right and everything else sounds right if i move it two frets over when i have the e 2 1/2 and everything else 1 1/2
What type of amp u using ???
Brother! Saw you on Counting Cars last night, that was a fuckin' bad ass tattoo you had done of Ace! He was my hero and idol growing up too, so I could totally relate! You kick ass!

I think it's a very good lesson. . And I agree, buy a book and learn some chords. Shot the have chord charts @ Wal-Mart for like 4$ .
I like this guy hes good.
finally fuck yeah man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love this song love the band rock on do more!
@kickmeihitu it should sound alright. the sound would also depend on the gauge of strings that you use. certain string gauges that are lower will make dropped tunings sound horrid.
Damn! That tone is fucking bone crushing!
Is that a standard Explorer? The body looks a bit thicker than usual
At 1:02, what kind of position is that he did on the Guitar?
Thats a barre D chord (from low E to high E string: X35553 / X3555X, I cannot see if he holds the high E string but as I hear he doesn't play so second version is easier)
@megajames3000 that's actually a motocross shirt... Fox is a motocross company...
:D how much is all the equipment, guitar, amps, everything cus obviously it sounds perfect lol
this man isa fuckin awesome guitarist!!!!!!!!!!!!
B standard is such a great tuning.
@solunasunrise Looks to be some sort of custom Gibson Explorer
hey wats his tuning ,, is it regular??
haha, i just got finished learning the song from this video and then wipe my shirt and find a little bit of drool on my shirt. This is how possessive this lesson is.
you make it look so easy XD
Can you tell me the song in the beginning is?
@DRMLB9 but, you can't watch the rest of them. you just keep getting error messages.

Anyone know where to find the solo?
the t-shirt is of motocross or the paintball??
i want that guitar!
Hey Mr. Hook you teach guitar classes!
Will a pedal work?
I'd think 13s would be fine too. You need a heavier gauge string to go down that low otherwise it's like playing noodles and you can't play noodles. I'll throw this out there too since I learned the hard way years ago. If you have a floating bridge (tremolo) and you put heavier gauged strings on there, you may need to put extra springs on it to keep the bridge from rising when tuning.

@kickmeihitu i think that other guy was wrong lol.from e to b its 3 full steps dwn. then another half step.
@zachrhino18 It's not drop B. It's B standard tuning ^^
I can hear a trace of "diary of a madman" song in there, around the chorus part. Not note for note, but very reminiscent.
Diary of a DEADman came out AFTER this song did..so if anything you'll hear traces of THIS song in that one
TheDorian120723 I'm sure he actually means Diary Of A Madman. xD
+TheDorian120723 actually for you're information diary came out in 1982 and this version came out in 2006 or 07 so you'e argument is invalid. Stupid. Rest in peace Randy

Anyone have a link to the solo video? I’ve tried Guitar World’s website and can’t find it.
Don't think it was ever made

@kickmeihitu tune everything down 1 and 1/2 step. and then tune your low E string down 1 more step.
