This is one of the most underrated entries in the history of Eurovision. Maybe the jurors felt kind of intimidated by this powerful screaming Brunhilda. The German expression "Wuchtbrumme" describing a powerful and voluminous lady seems appropriate here. She later had a successful carreer as soul singer in Germany and passed away recently.
Marc Exner Still, it doesn't make much sense, as the juries' job is to appreciate talent and not be "intimidated" by it. I, on the other hand, believe juries actually felt that soul & funk music is something entirely American (or was at the time) and didn't really fit a European competition.
@@VICKY08TZ It is beyond belief, really, how this powerful song and performance, that the audience gave one of the biggest responses to, bombed that badly. And then that garbage from Malta came 12th. Basically, you have to take the results of Eurovision with a certain grain of salt.
everything about this is perfect...the conductor, the backup singers, joy’s outfit...but most of all, joy herself. she had the kind of voice that makes you forget how hard singing can be. she was 100% flawless, and i will never get tired of this performance. thank you, my darling 😘💚.
fun fact Joy really didn't want to wear that outfit she said in an interview once that she wanted to wear jeans but the german broadcaster didn't think jeans were appropriate for an event such as Eurovision
In a way Joy did win the contest because decades later people still love this song. When you think how many Eurovision entries are just forgotten once the yearly show is over. Here we are in 2022 and folks are still reacting to a performance /song from 1975- that says it all!
Without a doubt one of the best delivered entries of ESC ever. Never get tired of her powerful performance. With great admiration and love from Austria. What is the conclusion? The placing at ESC tells you nothing about the quality of a song or performance.
This is one of my favorite entries ever! I found it by chance going down the Eurovision rabbit hole clicking on different videos and I was absolutely entranced by Joy's performance!

It's the only song I remember from the 70s editions with Waterloo and L'oiseau et l'enfant, I was just a little kid but stuck to my head. Wonderful Joy and beautiful song.

For any of you wondering her style of singing, she grew up after the war and sang in American bars in the German/American occupation zone. That‘s why she has that great voice for a German singer of that time. Very jazzy/ghospel. 👍🏻
Joy Fleming was One of a Kind and one of the very best singers of Germany. Such a pity that there was only a little comercial success. She has released some great Albums in her Music Career and started singing in US Clubs.

A song can be a bridge
look at your life
what was there?
years just turn in circles
you want to change
but nobody breaks the ice
then you talk to people
that do not mean anything to you
Look, they are like you
there are still ways
they lead to me
ohhh baby
a song can be a bridge
and every sound is like a stone
he makes you strong and firm
you can go about it
others understand
a song can be a bridge
have some courage and agree
and is your heart ready
come over this bridge
out of your loneliness
stop playing
and learn to feel
how many people are friends
learn to sing
Trust like a child
ohhh baby
a song can be a bridge
and every sound is like a stone
he makes you strong and firm
you can go about it
others understand
a song can be a bridge
have some courage and agree
and is your heart ready
come over this bridge
out of your loneliness
ladadadaaaa
