What a woman! She was pretty successful in the late 70s and 80s. She toured through Argentina, China, Scandinavia, France and she got an award in Japan. The german media always asked her about this green dress and questioned her choice… This great lady passed away last year.
This song was so underrated . Her song and voice was so unique and full of soul . She delivered it with so much passion . It should have been in the top .
Glad you liked that one Andy. The song was a bit ahead of its time at ESC and the juries just did not get it. A pity because Joy Fleming sang her heart out. In the backing group you had Madeleine Bell who was already well known both as a solo singer and with a group called Blue Mink. Obviously very happy to sing backing for Joy. Fleming had such a great , soulful voice with a real sense of style , but she also became well known for comedy shows and acting .
Hehe, knew you would love this one! Needless to say my personal winner of 1975 (sorry Netherlands). Now for an outraging fact: This only came 17th out of 19 countries... Joy Fleming sadly passed away September of last year (R.I.P.). Here's a live performance of this song she did in 2012 (and still killing it): ua-cam.com/video/RCWiYUmCQds/v-deo.html
She started as Joy & the Hit Kids in US Soldier Clubs here in Germany. She was with Nina Hagen one of the best Singers Germany had. She released several wonderful Albums "This is your Life", "Have a good Time" - and a late Disco Album "Only wanna get up and dance" with unfortunately little comercial success. But her Voice was ONE of a KIND.
in my opinion the best song that Germany ever had at the start, and in my opinion also one of the best songs that were EVER at the ESC, unfortunately, was not properly recognized Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein, a song can be a bridge that's exactly what this event wants to be and should be! In addition, it was a great jazz / soul singer, but unfortunately she did not look like a doll and maybe the song was too early for the ESC that time
@kristinat.65 vor 1 Stunde For any of you wondering her style of singing, she grew up after the war and sang in American bars in the German/American occupation zone. That‘s why she has that great voice for a German singer of that time. Very jazzy/ghospel. 👍🏻
Stamping conductor and a musical arrangement which is not the same as in the single. An evergreen in Germany in the same way as in their countries Yugoslavia/Slovenia, Portugal and Turkey. Bad rankings of theese 4 entries are caused by terrible outfits and arrangements of this Swedish orchestra in no relation to the planned arrangements!
I personally like the live arrangement even more, it is so much more energetic compared with the studio version (which is still great, of course). Maybe the stamping and jumping composer-conductor scared the juries 🙂

This should have easily been top 5 :)

Kennet it was my personal winner too. It was so contemporary and soulful .
That clip from 2012 is definitely not live, but this lady was nevertheless a queen with an outstanding voice and personality

This song has a similar message when not the same message as Nicole's EIN BISSCHEN FRIEDEN in 1982.
