I still highly recommend the E-Trac to many of my customers. I use, sell, compare, test and train customers on all 5 major brands. I personally use approx 15 different models of detectors for different situations. There is not 1 detector that is the best for every situation and things change. When you are ready to trade your E-Trac in for the CTX-3030 (which is better in many ways), let me know.
I have not tried it, but YES the CTX tones can all be changed. I can easily make the usual low tone gold rings a really high tone and I can turn the higher coin tones to low tones, or totally block them out altogether, if I wish.
Gerry, it would seem to me that you're in complete love with the CTX 3030. I wish that I could afford it, but I'm going to have to stick with the E-Trac.
CTX identifies targets better than my Xcal. CTX runs longer, CTX is way better balanced. I feel CTX is more sensitive to smaller targets, but I also think the Xcal is deeper on larger targets.
Hello Gerry, I was wondering if you could please tell me what sort of settings you have to put on this detector in order to just search for gold/silver items? Thank you.
I'm moving to florida next month and i've seen some mixed reports. Have you metal detected in Florida, and if so what are the laws about going into the water? I've read that you are not allowed in the water but then I see other video's on youtube of people out in the water.
Grazie!!
My CTX 3030 is deeper than the Xcal on larger targets. The CTX has a bigger coil, more frequencies, better target separation, and a quicker recovery speed than the Xcal. I respectfully disagree with you.
What type of rubber gloves are you using for the boot covers? I have wraps from Cabelas but they are useless in the surf. Getting sand out of my zippers is a royal PITA!!
Just some cheap kitchen cleaning gloves from Walmart. Be sure and find a pair that are tight around the ankles or you'll get sand in the loose fitting ones. Good Luck my friend.
you dont want your scoop to float or retain corrosive saltwater in between the pipe insulation and scoop handle..the rubber sleeves for the booty's was a good idea though
You may not want your scoop to float, but many of my customers and I like it when the handle stands straight up. I can let go and not have to worry about it sinking and then trying to fish it up. We get in deeper chest water at times and I like the scoop to stand up. You are correct, we remove the foam after the hunt is over and toss it in the garbage. Cost for foam and tape is less than $2. Good luck my friend.
Nice video, but per Minelab, the seawater mode is only to be used when the CTX is used submerged in water, not when hunting the wet sand on the beach. So a bit of misinformation in your video. Just trying to be helpful, not being a smart@$$. I know the effort involved in doing a video for youtube. Thanks!
Since the detector 1st came out, there has been many discussions of the proper set up. Not only has Minelab made changes, as I too have, but we all need to try different settings to find out what works best for the actual beach. PV is a beach most other detectors do not perform on. That is part of the reason I was sent there to test it. Thanks for watching.
Bootyhunter, I've tried turning off Seawater Mode but get way to much chatter, I have to turn manual sensitivity way down just to keep it stable. How do you deal with this?
Hi Gerry, I just got a CTX-3030. Thanks for the tips!
Glad you enjoyed the tips. Thanks for posting positive comments.
You show some good tips and detecting as well. Keep it up my friend.

Patients my friend, is a great virtue.

Go to the beach in Mexico and lets do a side by side test. Xcal is deeper on larger targets.
I love my CTX 3030 when it runs right.
I do accept trades, so would take your E-Trac towards a new CTX-3030.

We all dream. Let me know when the time is right.

Yes
I'll have a used Explorer and E-Trac coming in soon. Email me when you are ready and we can get one in your hands.
Ordered them online.
Thanks

Oh, I forgot to mention that I don't have my E-Trac yet either.
We'll figure out what is the right detector for you, just call or email direct.
Ciao e buona ricerca:-)
