Yes, I enjoy the longer episodes. This episode was "Super Awesome" because not only did you put the LuAZ to the test, but we also got to go on a class trip. If we do our calculus, may we go to another ghost village? Tak!!

I work in Forestry in the US, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the condition of your logging roads. Roads are expensive. They are maintained only when somebody cares.

It's not going to set any speed records or win beauty contests, but I love this vehicle :D! Thanks for showing some of the abandoned buildings. Such a shame to see them standing there rotting away, I hope you can get some good timber from them. Now get more shots with the new doggie in, Lars :)!

Excellent! I fully understand testing before use. If you break down far from home not only do you have to walk, you have to retrieve the vehicle! I like the longer videos, your content vastly exceeds many others on here. Concise, clear and clearly experienced. Thanks for your work. Now to put the Little Pink Troll behind the wheel!😉

The comment about city people always doing something made me smile :) my parents have a small vacation house 25km away from home. it seems, that they go ther to cut grass, and clean up the place. then they make dinner :)
i'm very big fan of Your videos. So much beauty in the nature, and so much space... Its outstanding! I would love to visit, and perhaps... cut the grass? :D

That looks just like the logging roads in northern Manitoba (Canada). There are a lot of lakes there so in the winter these roads become ice roads to get to various First Nations reservations. They get a year's worth of supplies on these roads over a few weeks in the middle of the winter.

Instead of cutting, flaring the fenders would be a much better idea.
Spring lifted my JEEP (HEEP) and went with wider flares...keeps a good amount of the dirt off the sides and side windows..
    😀😀
That other 4x4 on the road in the vid was hard core. I'll bet he was doing a double take at the SRV because the paint job is AWESOME...Probly not many SRV's running the roads.
Great road trip, I enjoyed it. 😀

don't just cut it off. cut about 3.81 cm apart with a cutoff saw blade make a radius of cuts as deep as you want the fender. then take a hammer, and dolley to planish it into the diam. you want by folding the cuts up into a new fender. otherwise you'll get rust issues when it starts getting wet.

The SRV is super awesome! That camp pattern is definitely funky. It's easy to see where you got the idea for its camo pattern. As lovely as the sickly Soviet lime green was, the new pattern is definitely awesome. Most western vehicles jack the vehicle up, but the axel is still low. The SRV has its axel high so it can cross over much higher items.

When you install the lift, pay attention to the angle of your drive shafts. If it is too steep you will wear them out much more rapidly than usual. Something that is a known issue with lifted Subarus and the like.

  • @bushmansurvival5053

I like your vehicle. I have a 1977 Jeep CJ-7 which is similar. It is very versatile and easy to get in and out of tight places where the trail hits a dead-end.
I noticed the vehicle which you met on the road with big, huge tires. I suppose huge tires like that have a purpose but I have found that I like tall and skinny tires for most purposes. They dig down through the snow to a solid surface and they are much easier to dig out than something that is 30 cm wide. Plus you can chain up skinny tires for incredible traction.
The 2 inch lift kit would be very good. It will help with both body and tire clearance. If you lift the vehicle too much, then you run into problems with driveshaft length, driveshaft angles and wearing out knuckles, etc.
If you ever get new tires try to go tall and skinny but keep enough clearance for a set of chains if you can. Check clearance on the top as well as on the sides. Also be mindful of tire clearance in the front where the wheels turn from left to right. You need clearance for hitting bumps on the trail, etc.
Tall tires will add more speed but they will also reduce the RPM of the tire. If you are short on engine power already, very tall tires will not help, it will make matters worse. You will feel like you have lost torque. However, if your transmission has an extra set of very low gears, then this may not be a problem. Shorter tires have the opposite effect of everything I just said. Changing tire size from factory will also affect the speedometer.
That has been my experience for whatever it is worth. haha. Have fun on the continuing project and good luck!

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому

The vehicle I met drives to hard to reach places in the forest. Logging camps and so.
Thin tires Vs wide tires. A very old topic/discussion :) In the Army out Mercedes G240/270's had thinner tires in order to dig down into the ground where there were some traction. However it all depends on the terrain, as I'm sure you know :)
Thank you for a good post.
      Happy Healthy 2018!!

The abandoned houses are fascinating, also a little sad. Hard to imagine leaving a home and it falling into ruin.
I'd opt for the lift kit to prevent tyre scuffing. Yes its a ball ache, but I can imagine cutting out the arches more problematic than first appears.
    Another great video :)

Lars, why not just flair the wheel arches outwards and fit plastic/rubber arch guards. Look at the type on land rover 90/110/130 series for some ideas. Lift kits don't take too long to fit unless being fitted to a road spring type vehicle where you may have to battle the road spring hanger bolts lol . You could also try fitting larger axle rubber bump stops ,like fitted to the series 3 land rovers and check straps. From what I could hear of SRV , the engine idle seems too fast and possible lack of power may be due to ignition timing and air/fuel mixture settings.

That's a great picture for the thumbnail!
I saw another puppy in the video, is it the in-laws?
Looks like the SRV is doing pretty well!
Best to figure out all of the issues it might have before you start going to more remote places, right?
Those abandoned homes are kinda spooky. Nice wood, though!
Cutting off some material should be too bad. And it'll allow you to put on larger tires if you do the body lift as well!
That truck you passed on the way back was pretty crazy.

Lift kits can sometimes end up being troublesome, whether it's locating the controls on a body lift, or compromising drive angles and/or steering from increased suspension height. I don't doubt your ability to accomplish it, but I certainly understand why you would choose to avoid jumping right into it.

I do like the SVR, without anything to give it scale it reminds me of the canvas topped Landrover 101 FC my brother used to own, but I know the 101 would dwarf it!
(Plus the SVR has a bonnet!).
I do miss that thing, we had such fun in it. It had the PTO powered winch so we could always pull it out of whatever we got it stuck in, and boy did we get it stuck in things. Wet 45 degree river clay river banks are always a challenge!

Not sure what your options are out there Lars, for sure you do not have ARB but maybe a Russian variant? I put a 2 1/2 Inch Old Man Emu lift kit on my Pajero, the ride over corrugation is so much smoother you hardly notice in the sand but also tackling rocks and loose pebbly tracks, i know as the driver what my limits are and with the bash plate and under armour i can feel confident to get out of trouble where needed. In my humble opinion, i see most of 4x4 drivers get into real trouble when they second guess themselves and don't commit to a line. Especially River crossings and taking Dunes. Like any Overlanding with a new wagon, it is always a learning curve as you know Lars, drivers who think they know it all, i can guarantee they will get in trouble. Difference is in Siberia and Aussie bush, we cannot call the AA or RACV man to come and help........ This is the reality of REAL Survival and mindset compared to TV as you are always telling us. Cheers mate. ATB Moose.

Nice! But the Steering seemed a little "Loose". Might want to have that looked at before you go much faster. Still wish I had something like that, but since I'm Stuck in the City.....

Those logging roads are better than the roads to my house out here in Northwest Kansas, USA. I guess the logging companies see the value in a good road. In my area, it's all oil access roads, and the oil companies won't do a thing to maintain the roads.

The more capable the off road vehicle, the further you have walk out to get the tractor.

SR, Are the old homes where old planks are being taken open to anyone to salvage? Just curious if these are non-claimed parcels of land / homes or those which have been purchased and the remaining structures up for grabs.?
Curious because as rough as they seem some could make a good starter home for someone interested in this lifestyle without much money but willing to work hard every day to earn their place. Would love tp hear from someone on this. Kindly, George
