    They always say that grandmother really does know best...and of course it's true. Mind you, there's a tremendous amount of things one can do with a lemon and with it being packed with vitamin C and is also alkaline and not acidic as most people assume, it's everyone's best friend. Thanks for sharing, Lars. Take care...

    This is a first for me: a video about a hack that I actually already knew! My grandad used to swear by lemons and told me when he was in the Marines most of his fellow soldi.... Whoops, he'd slap me for saying that, lol. I mean most of his fellow Marines would use lemons on their boots too.
    Lemons have some amazing 'off scrip' uses. They are also effective against cockroaches and fleas: Mix the juice of 4 lemons (along with the rinds) with 1/2 gallon (2 litres) water and wash your floors with it. Fleas especially hate the stuff.

    Lars, I just came hom from a 1 week trip and we had a apocalypse of mud and rain and 2 pairs of Bundeswehr boots are so full of mud, I am really glad you made this video just in time so I can check out your trick! Oh, rain. In my area, we've had rain nearly every day for about two months now. It's irritating as hell because I have a fairly nice pickup truck I'd like to finish and start driving. But, since I have no sort of garage to work in, it must wait.

    Those Russian military boots look nice. Do you know of anywhere to get them? Are they on the glorious Varusteleka? XP
    Always best to keep your boots clean. Leaving all that mud and whatnot on then will break down the leather and whatnot. I pretty much always clean my boots with one of those Swiss shoe care sets from Varusteleka. Not sure if they still sell them, though. Definitely worth the money.

      USUBBED Christian Vikernes!! Because the way he handles the Golden Gay is too weak too sissy and too christian!! indeed he promotes and endorses a kind of christianity when he said paganism is just christianity with some jewish addings like the internationalism (see his video of Catholics). It is not: Killing, looting, slaving the weak ones and having whores are something good something antichristian like Cesar Borgia. And "golden gay" has no class no nobility and Varg's getting old & tired. So fuck him and his ridiculous low IQ fans like
      survivethejive which is a domesticated cunt trained by jesuit outlets like he's not smart at all. 'its' parents must be human waste too.

      BlasterForge Completely true mate. In fact, you may have heard the expression 'can't even a afford a pot to piss in'. The origin of that expression was from leather companies who back in the olden days would actually purchase urine from people. A lot of very poor people would supplement their meagre income by providing their urine. This was usually done in a pot.But if you were REALLY poor, then you couldn't even afford a 'pot to piss in'.
      :-)

      Logica Redux Redux who's gluteus have you been kicking now. Not another one of H.H. I'm thinking about converting a few old PRR cars to steel campers that have about ten miles of service track untouched for 50 years that go with the deal. I need a tender, which just happens to be up in St. John Nova Scotia. (It's an 0-4-2 oiler that worked the gantries in Bay of Fundy.) All within 4 K of the Old Lincoln Highway.

      Logica Redux - It's a long shot. Since I've seen every specialist from Endocrinologist, Telemetrist, both magnetic to virtual tomographic blah, blah, blah... I was talking with this saw-bones who want's his kid to take over his practrice ($$$) The kid's not biting though. This vascular guy picked up an abandoned mining town in Central, Northwestern, Pennsyork as a port folio stuffer. The problem is it's cheap as in a tapped out vein but still has some infrastructure (I take that as it sounds). Somewhere around Cattle's, and Blue Knobs. Says, he'd entertain "serious" terms. Well, I'm "seriously under-funded" So right now it looks like a "Red Herring." As a salt would say. Gotta love a lubber.

    Do you need to follow up with any kind of leather conditioner after using lemon? Way i've always done it was saddle soap and water and a conditioner afterward.
    thanks for the tip, i'll try it out this summer.

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  7 років тому +8

      You surely need to grease up/polish the boots afterwards :)

    • @vladimirlindemann7598
      @vladimirlindemann7598 7 років тому

      I use normal soap and water and an old toothbrush (to clean out places difficult to reach). Using some kind of conditioner is important because I believe that soap isn't good for the leather because it's a caustic. And lemon acid isn't good too.

      Here's the website en.faradei.ru/ It's a major army contractor. Click on "Military Shoes". It's model 449 as far as I remember, bur there are variations of the boot too.

    What jacket are you wearing? You seem to use it often.

    Well Lars, as interesting as this video is, I won't be using it and I'm betting that there will be a few rather pished off Mothers and Wives when they find that their Son's & Husbands have taken the last Lemons to clean their boots with!
    Surely, out there in Siberia where I doubt any Lemons grow other than in a super Grenhouse, there must be better uses for them? I'm old school insofar as water a cloth and a small toothbrush does enough to remove the caked on mud I get here in Bulgaria during the winter. You on the other hand, spend most of your year in snow and the other few months in baking hot temperatures (not counting this summer) and always have streams, rivers and ponds/lakes so no shortage of ''natural'' cleaning materials.
    I am of the opinion that prevention is better than cure and preparing your boots correctly with the available polishes and creams will deter mud and dirt sticking to the uppers of your boots and making it easier to remove. I am not a chemist, but I would think that using any form of acid (in this case Citric), might remove that protective coating or a layer of it at least?
    If you recall the passage from the book, ''The Long Walk'' they came across a Goat Herder up in a cave in the mountains. The Herder would slaughter a Goat for his food and whilst cooking it over a fire would allow the Goat Fat to drip on his boots and the author said they were the best pair of supplest boots he had ever seen. I am not knocking your video which I enjoyed, but just adding my opinion to it.
    Before opening my mouth, I did engage my brain this morning and did a little research on the subject - it seems that folk do clean their leather goods with a mixture of Lemon Juice and Olive Oil and some even dab a wet cloth into Baking Soda to remove dirt there was even mention of White Vinegar (an acetic acid). However, as I suggested from the beginning, all of those ingredients would be too valuable to me to waste in a survival situation when I can clean with water and it doesn't need to be drinking water either.
    My biggest problem with Bulgarian MUD is that it sticks to my soles, makes me 10 centimetres or more taller and a couple of kilos heavier and I am yet to try out or source a pair of boots with Panama soles and without breathing holes to test the theory that not so much mud will stick whilst out in the sticks.
    Just my 10 Kopeks worth. Wink.

      No problem :) This is just an efficient way of cleaning boots. Care products of whatever kind have to be applied afterwards of course. We have the same clay mud here. Urine is a great way of soften up new boots. This video is not really survival related as such. Just a good old tip :)

      Come back with a Birch Tree Oil Boot cleaner and Leather nourishment and then, I'll be really envious. LOL.

    This regular dose of Lars during the week is a pick-me-up. Like a hot cuppa in winter. Most if us probably won't admit it, but we'll watch someone else get ripped to shreds with black flies and skeeters.
    The motivational coefficient is reduced by 6 weeks when the projected outcome has slowed due to extenuating circumstances. Nonetheless, the cow knows the smell of the barn.
    Apologies for the typographical errors in original text..
    Added notable truth Lars does not follow the pack. He surveils the pack, identifying the Alpha and then waits.
    As for Lars the analogy is along the lines the even Caesar wait before crossing the Rubicon

      Huntarama - Firstly, no matter how I try to proof read, Murphy is right over my shoulder.
      Secondly, I'm wondering if there is any "Law of the Jungle" per se. There are numerous adversarial relationships but there are also symbiotic interactions as well. For example, the Honeysuckle vine. Nice to the eye, sweet to taste, and frangrant. Yet, it's only purpose is to self propagate by choking the life sap from the tree.
      There's a little non-descript bird who lives in the African wetlands whose sole existence is to pick the ticks and flies from a Hippo's ass. It has no enemies, and no other birds bother it.

      Yes I can't help thinking"" law of the jungle "" is bit of an oxymoron.
