That’s my childhood home! We built it in 1984, I was almost 5. My great uncle was Walter Starcke who owned the GRR for many years. My parents managed the Ranch full-time and we lived there until I graduated BHS 1998. So crazy to see my childhood home and the Ranch on your videos! They changed our already quirky home so much, but I still see the framework we built. My bedroom was by the “dungeon”😳 never thought I’d see that again! It was supposed to keep the house cool because we didn’t have AC until I was 13. Seeing your videos bring back so many memories…

Dope hope he sees this. That sounds like a really fun hobby/business, I've wanted to try some of the projects I've seen myself but there's no way I could afford all the tools and materials required. But that's a great idea, it would be huge exposure for you, and an awesome piece of furniture for free for him, as well as a nice gesture! If you don't hear a response, I would just go ahead and build it anyway and then get in contact with him with some pictures and just say this is yours, he'll take it if you don't procrastinate and have it done soonish. But don't just make a comment, find out how to call or email them or even mail them the pictures and a note, and then be prepared to deliver it. Maybe you can get dining room dimensions or perhaps you can glean enough from the footage... it sounds like he wants a very long table, perhaps enough to seat 10-12. Your table will be in his house if you choose to make it happen. Can't wait to see it in a video.

Make the dungeon a reading corner. a nice one person chair. Small round table. Some vines growing on the side and a plant pot like extended from the house stone. (waterfall?) A light with a warm color. And thefloor partially out of nice wood. The perfect place to read a newspaper in the morning with a nice espresso.
Nah... a wine cellar or jacuzzi. Out of bounds for kids. A grown ups dungeon. Not enough natural light so small time exposure. I also agree with other comments, should be called the "Southern Comfort" house.
Please leave the yellow tile in the kitchen and just paint the walls. For the pine ceilings, a clear coat would be great. It’s an amazing house! Lucky Matt!❤
I would use a clear oil based wood preservative. We use TWP brand oil stain on and inside our log home here in Tennessee, and it looks beautiful on its own. Exterior, you have to reapply every few years, but interior we've been here 6 yrs and haven't touched it since.
Whoever has been doing the hype videos needs a raise! Also, I like the name "Mama's House." Its the perfect mix of cooking for a big family while getting to relax by the pool and watch them play.
This house would be great to list as party of a wedding package. Great place for a wedding party to stay and get ready. This would perfect place to attach to venue or package deals for your other promotions or amenities. A sportsman’s package that has shooting, kayaking, ATVs and this house would make an amazing “experience” to list.
Matt you need to be ordained as a minister! Then offer wedding packages at the resort! You already get invited to so many weddings, why not have them come to you? Use Mamas House / southern comfort as the wedding party house. Plenty of room for everyone to spend out and get ready. Offer smoked meat and sides for the reception and offer traditional style shotgun weddings! Actually partner with a manufacturer to include a custom shotgun set for the bride and groom as a wedding gift!
Blue accents in the kitchen will make the room pop and save the yellow tile. You can stripe one wall as an accent. (I am guessing the kitchen is painted with an enamel paint) Thoroughly clean the wall. Put two 2" strips of blue painter's tape up side by side from floor to ceiling. Skip the next 4 inches Repeat across the wall. Paint the exposed wall stripes with water based polyurethane varnish. Let dry til tacky and carefully remove the painter's tape. With all the flowers you can make it a French country house with the yellow and blue kitchen.
I like "Mamas Wildflower Ranch" as well. Leave the flowers wild and let a landscaper or gardener handle the grass, a pool guy the pool upkeep etc.. Just don't ruin the hill country vibe making things sterile and modern.
The Southern Comfort house! Leave the wood floors and ceiling! Sand the floors if need be and stain them dark and for the ceiling stain it a light color let the wood shine! Do only the work that needs done a big garden tub in the master bath. Leave the tile in the kitchen. Turn you little area down stair into a reading and writing area small corner desk and chair. Someone put alot of love into this house and you can see that and people will love it for that!
The new house is incredible. The little “dungeon” area could be a wine bar grotto. The small entrance room to the master could be a baby room for renters with infants.
My suggestion would be to Stain the vaulted ceiling, put a nice big bubble tub/jacuzzi style tub in the bathroom without the tub, and in the kitchen paint the walls ether a light blue or mint color and replace the yellow tiles with a white or cream color but leave the cabinets the way they are. You could also put pots, pans, and other kitchen supplies like a kitchen aid ext. in the pantry for when big groups come to stay there. And call it the southern comfort house you basically said it yourself. These are just my suggestions but I think that would make it look even more amazing than the house already is it is beautiful btw.
Please don’t destroy this house! Not everything needs to be “demolished” or slick, sterile, modern. The ceilings, etc., are gorgeous! Other than a few minor updates, it’s stunning. I’d buy it as is in a heartbeat. Same for the landscaping, cottage, wildflowered gardens are magical. Nicest house of all of your properties, imo.
Painting the rafters would be a crime. Stain them please. And for the dungeon you could make into a little grotto type thing. Put a little water feature in there. Trickling water so soothing.
Love the new addition! Will definitely feel more homey with updated paint to make the house feel more cohesive. A couple ideas: Make the dungeon into a reading nook with cool lights and a comfy chair. Turn the attic space in the master bath into a sauna. Leave the cabinets and tile in the kitchen and change the wall color to an eggshell or some other lighter color to create contrast. Keep up the awesomeness!
Stain the ceilings, fill and sand old wood floors for stains, and have decorative throw rugs. The bathroom without a tub can have a whirlpool tub and be considered the master bedroom bath.
"Invite the whole family for a relaxing weekend at Mama's Event house and gardens" Added amenities could include wedding packages, meal service with a Chef and crew, family reunions, business retreats/conferences. Pack it with as many beds as fits. Check on ADA compliance requirements - any remodel can trigger mandatory accessibility.
First impressions count... Change those hand rails on the entrance to something unique or fantasy style. Keep the flowers and make the entrance a picture spot that make kids and adults go Wow!!
The house has the feel of the Winchester Mystery House...Sarah Winchester (widow of gun magnate William Winchester) constantly built on the house creating the maze-like collection of buildings. And, so it is written here, no Sarah was not constantly building to confuse spirits of those killed by Winchester Repeating Rifles (that is folklore). Sarah viewed the rifles as necessary for survival. Best of luck to the Carriker clan from your fans in Granbury
Something you could do with the house/ resort in general is reach out to Scouts of America Troops in the area and collaborate with them to do a camp out at the resort. It would offer a lot of opportunity for the Scouts to work on multiple merit badges, IE. Hiking, biking on the trails, firearm centered ones at the range. The fields would offer good tenting areas for the troops as well. Just something this video made me think of while watching it.
Frisbee Golf !!! Frisbee Golf !!! Frisbee Golf !!! You’ve got more than enough land to do a super cool course that would be a fun benefit for any of the guests staying on property as well as opening it up to “daily fee” play to the surrounding communities. Small investment for potential big returns!
We stayed at a huge inn for my daughter's wedding. It was a lot like this house. It was great because everyone flew in from all over the US. We had rooms for all families and a beautiful garden with flowers for the wedding. Good luck you guys are great!
Stain the ceiling, if you keep the yellow tile - For the walls, go with soft white, light butter yellow (similar to whats there) pale mint green, warm gray, or a soft blue. Also, someone else said it, you should name it Southern Comfort. The pantry too, someone said stock it with pots & pans so people dont have to bring stuff
No such thing as a double wide in a description, it is a beautiful manufactured home with acres upon acres and beautiful views, lol. The Mama/Grandma house is awesome. Update it as little as possible and enjoy the eccentricity of it. Anyone that stays there will love it and have those memories forever. Don't paint those ceilings, stain them, you'll be glad later on. It's an awesome house and a place that should attract people with all different tastes. Congratulations, that place is sweet!!!!
Eclectic, not weird, not eccentric , "Home" nothing more, nothing less, fix the fixables that require updating, but construction sets the tone as gut and destroy. The Home has a lot of appealing character, accentuate it, if you absolutely have to do something, put beamed ceilings in the wood ceiling rooms, Clean and Quaint. The place will make memories now with little input !!!
I think you know that the Demolitia will ALWAYS have your back - those houses will book so quickly... I agree that the dungeon should be a quiet reading nook, somewhere to escape. Warm lighting, squishy seating... perfect. I really hope that one day I'll be able to get across the pond and see the Desperado. So great to see the resort slowly waking up after a long sleep...
I think you should stain the rafters and the wood around the house, its just my preference because i love how wood looks when it has a light to medium stain.
A faint lavender purple or blue in the kitchen would make the yellow pop better imo, it's so gorgeous and unique! Also lean into the 50s diner vibes in the laundry room if you keep the checkerboard floor
It's like a mini Winchester mansion. It's quirky but it's what makes it look cool. Stain the celings, refinish the floor, some paint and it's good to go. Nice outdoor kitchen too.
I think the place is amazing! Don't change anything for awhile. Just repair what needs repairing and rent it out. The house is HUGE! I absolutely love all the outdoor decks and the pool is fantastic! THREE fridges! That place looks like the ULTIMATE party house! You need a clever name for it that fits the theme of the other 2 houses. Ranch House, Prairie House, Canyon House, Garden House, Desert Plains House, Driftwood House, Frat House, River House.. something like that.
Mama's house wouldn't be complete without memory's and children's achievements....ie...demo ranch history and memorabilia to display how far you've come from day 1. All the weird cool crazy thing..pictures car hoods targets ect. Let everyone see how proud mama is. 🤙 good luck and God bless brother
Oh man...LOVE 'Mama's House' and all those flowers...and that kitchen and PANTRY...my kinda place! I love the old look of it too and all the decks. Congrats on that purchase!
The large "bathroom" and attic area, I'm thinking a in home spa. Put a hot-tub next to the steps in the corner and turn the attic area into a sauna. The dungeon could easily become a quiet reading nook, but you may want to watch the area during a heavy rain. The drain might be the lowest point in the house and the dungeon acts as a sump. All the houses are nice, but I'm waiting for when you have tent sites open with range time before my family and I plan a trip.
At 14:41 on the end of the roof ... that is a directional cell phone booster antenna. Point it straight at the nearest tower and it amplifies the signal throughout the house.
The dungeon could be a wine cellar! If the guest wants a bottle it’s already in the house! Keep an inventory of what is stored in there and then the housekeeper recounts after each tenant. Anything used or broken would be charged back either through a stored card or some kind of deposit!
17:15 I do agree it's a liiiittle too much yellow, the tiles are pretty nice so maybe the walls could be painted a nice creme or light sandy color? it would brighten it up in there AND not be too startling of a change from the tile!
Hey Matt, in the new house, that recliner is a lift chair 4:20 . If you need any work done on it, I can help. Message me if it has any problems. We are located in New Braunfels.
Oh, man, i would love that pantry. Wow. But that house would be perfect for families that are having weddings on site. I love how quirky it is, though. So fun. I can definitely see getting a few families together and spending a few days there.
IMO you do the "major stuff" like the master bath, but you basically keep it as is. It's unique enough that people will remember it, nice enough that you would want to come back, and just beat up enough that if something happens you aren't pissed that something you just "fixed" needs to be fixed again!
This is one of the best houses I have seen!! Simply because of it's quirkiness. You could really turn this into something really awesome as long as you don't over do it be destroying it's OG quirkiness charm. Yes, you can replace yellow tile for more modern white or something like that but that doesn't mean you have to replace everything to make it look like a modern style kitchen. You are so blessed to have something like this home in your asset pool.
I think the yellow would look good with a light grey, you could paint the walls light grey and keep the yellow cabinets and tile or vice versa. And me personally I think you should stain the exposed wood roof and not paint it. Just giving you some ideas, Congrats on another amazing piece of property.
I am in a wheelchair and Matt you should make a bigger deal of handicapped accessible. It is difficult to find an Airbnb that is handicapped accessible. Please pave an area from ramp to car as wheelchairs don't do well in gravel. Well done Matt!
@@stoptuna7671how was that insulting? It was somewhat crude/direct, but in no way insulting. Just a straight up answer. But yes, it would be nice if people put more focus on accessibility.
@@TheXshot your answer just proves the lack of knowledge of what a person in a wheelchair goes through. But I am sure in your infinite, self fulfilling thoughts of your own knowledge would make me wrong. Think before you yap..
Sand and clearcoat or stain the beautiful woodwork. Since everything's bigger in Texas, name it the Texas House. You could lighten up the walls in the kitchen (maybe the cabinet doors, too) with an off-white or cream color but don't change the tiles. Get rid of the track lighting, of course, fix what needs to be fixed, but avoid making too many changes to modernize it or you will lose the character and charm that impressed you so much. Nobody wants just another cookie-cutter type of house. I love a good renovation but this is such a beautiful home it doesn't seem to need much. Can't wait to see the progress.
Sauna in the master bath would be cool. Update all the deck planks to trex boards, make that middle deck a giant saltwater hot tub/jacuzzi. Get rid of the yellow
@@Arkay66 yeah, I've felt that in NY with some of the decks and docks I've been on too, thought there would be a color or Maybe some other material that could be used/found. The boards on the main entrance are def in need of some tlc is why I even thought about it
I'd move the laundry into the pantry, because an Airbnb doesn't need that much pantry space. Move most of the shelves into the old laundry room and make it a library. The dungeon was probably a giant terrarium. I'd stick some indoor plants in there and some seating for hippies who want to commune with nature, but don't want to go out in the Texas heat.
Moving plumbing is a major expense and it's really not necessary. The house is more than large enough to have bookshelves everywhere or choose a room without plumbing to become an actual library.
I worked for a remodel/New construction company and we redid a a Ranch Style on a lake. Part of we did was cut out the ceilings to expose the white pine 1x8 roof underlayment with the tops of the trusses exposed. The lady of the house put together a scaffolding and stained the inside of the roof (we converted from a 3 in 10 ranch style roof to a 8 in 10 Roofover) we also added 1500 sqft of under roof to the house. With the exterior and interior upgrades the house received a Beautification Award from the city of Winter Haven, Florida. ALL that being said the beauty of the stained ceiling added so much to the overall beauty of the house. Consider staining
I think the 'come shoot my guns' will be a fantastic experience, from what I have seen of David he has so much knowledge, and has an awesome sense of humour. People will always want Matt, but this way you get to go to the range, shoot his guns, and play with David. p.s. I'm from Australia and don't know any people on Matt's teams, just giving my 50 cents worth!!
As a house painter, keep the old vibes. For the kitchen keep the old school tile and cabs, but paint the wall a pure white or lighter taupe to make it look bigger. It does look dark as it's too close. Also, pine is kinda a pain to stain, but I'd darken those up (beams and carsiding) with a medium dark stain (also have to seal and lacquer after) to really pop. Super common on current new builds plus looks great.
As for the Mama'a house, with its odd rambling architecture, you should call it the Grandma Winchester's House. And you can find plenty of Winchester logo decor. (Mirrors, posters, signs, and perhaps an original Winchester Bullet Board (to display behind glass.)
Keep the yellow tile in the kitchen, but repaint with a flattering color! Paint the pine white (still gives the ‘roomie’ illusion! When decorating the bedrooms go with color or theme decor. Advertise to families and group gatherings. With so many ‘levels’ and rooms they can ‘claim’ the theme room chosen!! If you choose to put a tub in that plumed master, better check that water isn’t going to be going down in the wood slat flooring. Recipe for more work in the future!! Congrats on your ‘new to you’ home/project!!
My wife and I have about 25 years of hotel experience between us and you are living our dream! Keep plugging away and we are will definitely come out and shoot Goldie the Barrett next time we are in San Antonio!
That house is AWESOME the kitchen is FABULOUS love the butlers pantry with all the shelves leave that as is mayb just tone down the kitchen walls but thats all for kitchen. That place id huge...love love love it❤❤
Ok. Two suggestions. A koi pond in the dungeon area. But the best suggestion is that I think you need to put a sauna in the storage space off of the upstairs bathroom. It would be epic, and I know you like to be epic.

I absolutely agree. Do not paint that ceiling.
Yeah.
definitely give it a nice darker stain and that shit will be lookin sexy XD
Painting over wood is a crime against humanity
Stain a little darker, no paint over that nice exposed wood. It looks like a nice casa with the exposed wood and the floor tiles
Or whitewash, that would take away the yellowish cast of the wood and keep it light.
This, was going to say the same thing.

One of the decks at least should be covered. The Texas sun in August is hot hot hot! Under shade looking at that view should be fantastic!
it looked like there was at least 1 set of retractable awnings for one of the decks.
Martha Steward's eccentric Momma's house. Keep the flowers and butterflies. No paint on ceilings. Kid proof the pool door a must.
Have you not seen his mansion?
Yes I have. Very impressive but I much prefer the feel of this one.
Painting the rafters would be a crime. Stain them please. And for the dungeon you could make into a little grotto type thing. Put a little water feature in there. Trickling water so soothing.
Stain the roof. No paint. That winding stair with all the levels is a kids dream.
The little hidden attic room screams kids play space...
Love the new addition! Will definitely feel more homey with updated paint to make the house feel more cohesive. A couple ideas:
Make the dungeon into a reading nook with cool lights and a comfy chair.
Turn the attic space in the master bath into a sauna.
Leave the cabinets and tile in the kitchen and change the wall color to an eggshell or some other lighter color to create contrast.
Keep up the awesomeness!
Mama's Party House is basically my dream house, so much character.
Stain the ceilings, fill and sand old wood floors for stains, and have decorative throw rugs. The bathroom without a tub can have a whirlpool tub and be considered the master bedroom bath.
that bathroom is supposed to have a huge claw foot tub in it.
Everyone’s taking their whirlpool tubs out.
This house Rocks!!! Ceilings are Awesome!! Handicap Accessibility is more a plus than one thinks!!🎉
Update that!!
Mama's house is a great name. The kitchen is good and the yellow has got mama's written all over it. Stain the open rafters a warm color.
16:50 Mumma always said, if it aint broke, dont fix it. Looks good to go!
I say just paint the walls and fix the floors
"Invite the whole family for a relaxing weekend at Mama's Event house and gardens" Added amenities could include wedding packages, meal service with a Chef and crew, family reunions, business retreats/conferences. Pack it with as many beds as fits.
Check on ADA compliance requirements - any remodel can trigger mandatory accessibility.
Yeah, that kitchen could be a caterer's dream!
This is a cool idea.
Damn that's a good idea .
Hooks in the pantry look to be for cast iron pots and pans to hang on.
You could sponser tournaments. Bring in a crowd.
I'd go!
Is this on the abandoned ranch property?
@@gamerserver1 It’s the resort property
You should partner with @mintdiscs, they built a killer course on a brewery property in Austin. They are a Texas disc golf company.
Locks on all pool doors. Real nice property!
Oh, and Happy Birthday, David!
We stayed at a huge inn for my daughter's wedding. It was a lot like this house. It was great because everyone flew in from all over the US. We had rooms for all families and a beautiful garden with flowers for the wedding. Good luck you guys are great!
Make the “Dungeon” a wine cellar! 😍
simple black iron bottle holders, Drilled into the stone.
Would look so sick! 🍷
EXACTLY what I was thinking! It would be PERFECT for wedding parties! Could even have wine and whiskey down there as well!
I vote for leave it alone or go with butter cream/lt yellow walls.
It's much more cozy than most 'sterile' rentals!
@@RainboCatz right? Yeah, the color doesn't' look that bad.
People probably didn't know they were available before this episode.
Sand the Master bedroom's floors, and stain them, and wood rafters, a golden shade stain, or maybe a little darker. Nice place!!
I think Southern Comfort like he mentioned in the video would be an awesome name.
Great house. Fix what's broken and worn, but don't change anything. It is a perfect southern Momma's house. Love the pool!
I think converting the attic room into a sauna would be pretty cool
That's exactly my thoughts
Oh my goodness, I love the house with the butterfly garden 🦋🎈
Grey would make it feel too sterile. I think a sky blue or robin egg blue would feel a lot more like home.
The name for the house literally hangs over the front door. “Friends and Family House” is perfect for the size of this house.
Exactly what I was thinking!😂❤
I am in a wheelchair and Matt you should make a bigger deal of handicapped accessible. It is difficult to find an Airbnb that is handicapped accessible. Please pave an area from ramp to car as wheelchairs don't do well in gravel. Well done Matt!
If your very handicapped, stick with hotels they are much more suited for those that need assistance
@@jdorffer somewhat a very insulting answer. Handicapped persons know their limits and are not mentally handicapped. What an Insult.
@@jdorffer In other words-stay home-WTH! Disabled people are allowed to want to experience life too you dolt!
Can't wait to see the progress.
the Carriker empire keeps on growing. good for you keep up the good work
Sauna in the master bath would be cool. Update all the deck planks to trex boards, make that middle deck a giant saltwater hot tub/jacuzzi. Get rid of the yellow
The sauna is what I thought the room was when the door opened.
Yellow is a very soothing color for a kitchen. After some interesting wall decor is added, one would hardly notice the wall color!
I like the yellow walls, it's sunny. But might be too much, needs to fit the tile/counters
Trex holds far more heat than wood boards. Very bad for out in the Texas sun.
They could use the pantry for storing folding chairs, tables, and table cloths for large gatherings.
Moving plumbing is a major expense and it's really not necessary. The house is more than large enough to have bookshelves everywhere or choose a room without plumbing to become an actual library.
Stain the ceilings! And keep the quirkiness! That place is so awesome and fun!!
Stain or varnish the wooden beams. Try and keep as much of the character of the house as possible. But definitely paint the yellow kitchen
I agree with everything except painting the kitchen, unless it's to a lighted buttercream yellow!
Years and years ago when Matt started youtube I never thought I would be watching him collect property
It's like he's playing Monopoly in real life. He's almost got a full set of properties. Rent's gonna be outrageous! 😅
You got the theme right Matt, straight off the top, when you said you would like it to be a "Southern Comfort" kinda house.
This is one of the most magical places, ever. Amazing home, beautiful!
Love the laundry room, as is, you need to play it up.. Keep up all the flowers, The Flower House.
Wild flowers offer a natural beauty that invites pollination.
That's a very cool name and play off the famous Winchester House!
That's clever. I like it. Works multiple ways.
Just stain the rafters and paint the kitchen walls. Do this as economically possible for the biggest bang per capita. Great video! Best of luck!
18:20 “No one can claim unemployment, if they’re dead.” 😂 Sinister Matt is my favorite Matt.
Reminds me of the Winchester Mansion. All the different levels and hallways. Stairs leading to nothing, like the dungeon. Lol.
With those yellow pine ceilings, you should stain them so they look more like cedar or redwood instead of pine.
You said it when describing it! The Southern Comfort House
My wife and I have about 25 years of hotel experience between us and you are living our dream! Keep plugging away and we are will definitely come out and shoot Goldie the Barrett next time we are in San Antonio!
Southern Comfort House - sounds good!
that pool space would be nice with christmas/decorative lights hanging from the wooden beams
And tropical plants!
This one was enjoyable, thx for making it.
Mama's house is HUGE! Perfect for large groups or familes! Much luck with your rentals!
That house is AWESOME the kitchen is FABULOUS love the butlers pantry with all the shelves leave that as is mayb just tone down the kitchen walls but thats all for kitchen. That place id huge...love love love it❤❤
That’s going to be a cool adventure renovating Momma’s House
Ok. Two suggestions. A koi pond in the dungeon area. But the best suggestion is that I think you need to put a sauna in the storage space off of the upstairs bathroom. It would be epic, and I know you like to be epic.
That’s what I thought it was going to be. But I’m biased. I really want a sauna in my house.
2:44 Chandelier over the bathtub is a big no no!!! Against the NEC! (National Electrical Code)
