      Go half & half on the mountain bikes cause there are the "lazy" people and there are the ones that like the exercise & just the overall old school mountain bikes. A little something for everyone. Not to mention the old school mountain bikes will be cheaper to fix & replace if need be. The electric ones won't be as cheap in the either/or case.

      Gambling is linked to many deaths, including suicides, and can have a range of other negative consequences:

      Suicide
      According to the World Health Organization, 5% of the world's approximately one million suicides each year are related to compulsive gambling. The National Council on Problem Gambling says that 20% of gambling addicts will attempt to kill themselves, which is more than double the suicide rate of any other addiction.

      UK study
      A UK study of young people aged 20-24 found that 4% of suicides were related to gambling. Applying this figure to the approximate 6,000 suicides each year in the UK gives a figure of 250 suicides related to gambling each year.

      Victorian investigation
      A Victorian investigation found that gambling-related suicides comprised at least 4% of all suicides in Victoria between 2009 and 2016.

      Problem gambling helpline
      In Ohio, calls to the problem gambling helpline went up 70% after sports betting was legalized.

      Gambling can also lead to other negative consequences, including job loss, divorce, domestic violence, bankruptcy, stress-related illnesses, arrest and incarceration, and mental health disorders.

    Matt, I was a bike mechanic at a very high volume shop. We ran a fleet of cube reactions for rentals. You might want to go with a well known brand for parts and maintenance l. They break a lot more often than you think. I’d also recommend getting a local shop to do your maintenance. Not that you’re not capable but it’s a lot of work and would take a lot of time that would be better spent elsewhere.

      All of what this guy said Matt.... Don't buy a bunch of Chinese crap.... And in the bike industry, Taiwan and China are not the same thing... Even the best made bikes, on a rental fleet you'll be fixing all kinds of stuff, constantly.

      Came to the comments to say this same thing. The components/parts are a huge deal. Not every shock is built the same. Not every set of disk brakes is one I'd want to ride with. Etc, etc, etc. It's a lot like car parts and accessories to be honest, so should be somewhat familiar in that respect. It should also be noted..... a lot of local shops won't work on mail order bikes, so you need to know the shop is willing BEFORE buying.

    Hide geocaches all over the property! There are really fun containers but ammo cans work well. DR/BB stickers or tokens as the swag/trade items. Get a few Garmin type GPS devices and load in the coordinates of your hides and then rent those devices out to guests. Have different levels of difficulty- beginner to experienced can have success. Fun for all ages! Maybe even an extra prize for finding all of them during the stay.

    Coming from someone who rented out cabins,canoes and kayaks on the S. Llano river........
    Be careful about what you rent out to your guests....When we bought the place I purchased 8 new kayaks and 4 new canoes to go with the 3 canoes that were already there that were in decent shape.
    You wont believe how many people will abuse your equipment!!!!
    Had one canoe that got folded in half when one of the guests wrapped it around a boulder and you have to just eat the costs of replacing it.
    Not to mention the broken paddles and the lost life jackets.
    As someone who's done a lot of kayaking and canoeing I've never lost or broken a paddle.
    Your guests WILL abuse the shit out of your equipment!!!
    I caught people dragging my new boats across the low water crossing which of course are pavement.
    I even had the place I purchased the Yaks and Canoes from put protective covers on the bow and stern of the canoes.....they lasted one season!!

    Hey Matt, great idea on renting bikes/e-bikes I have been a professional bicycle mechanic for several years now and thought I would just give you some of the knowledge I have. In terms of what e-bikes to rent be very careful the brand you select as the online brands often don’t have replacement parts you can get when they break. For example several of those brakes I can’t get new pads for because they are a no brand Chinese part. And when you can get them most shops won’t work on them because the battery is not a brand covered In their insurance policy. As well the maintenance on the online bought e-bikes is much more expensive as the parts are not made for the extra power they put out. I would look into Giant, specialized, or even Wolfe bikes. Hope that helps some! Let me know if you want any more info!

    One thing i thought of with the Ebikes is having swappable batteries and a few spares so you could have a few batteries sitting ready in case they are needed, say you had 10 bikes and 20 batteries you could then just swap them out in mins rather than waiting for them to charge which could take a couple of hours.
    The Resort is getting better and better. Does not seem that long since you had the first video after you had bought it and it was all a bit daunting but now seems things are going great and stuff is getting sorted.
    Wish you all the best with it and hope to come visit one day.

    Find a local shop with a rep you can verify and go with an ebike model they are comfortable maintaining for you. They should have a good idea on parts and a good schedule for something they are familiar with to keep them up and running. Someone interested in standard trail and downhill riding is probably bringing their own bike and you can pick up a much wider range of people renting an ebike. Do keep in mind though these are rentals and a lot of people that rent have no concern about throwing them around, taking them through mud and hard terrain beyond what they would do with anything of their own including leaving them laying out in the rain.

Their bikes come with relatively decent quality components and their service / warranty department is very responsive. Some of their new bike models come with Apple my find which would be a simple way to keep track of rental bikes. They also come at a more affordable price. If you are going to get a fleet of bikes then invest in puncture resistant liners. You will constantly be changing tubes if you don't. You can also convert them over to tubeless but that's a little bit more involved.

    • @EverydayConversationsPodcast
      @EverydayConversationsPodcast Місяць тому +2

      I disagree. I don't think those bikes are worth purchasing whatsoever. However, those are 60tpi tires, so they are downhill durable. With the geometry of that frame combined with the quality of suspension, it won't allow you to get into anything serious enough you would Is lacerate sidewall, or get a snake bite. Unless people were really running them low on air. However, even running low pressure, 60tpi fat tires are extraordinarily forgiving

    • @ryanmeeker8587
      @ryanmeeker8587 Місяць тому +8

      @EverydayConversationsPodcast Ya but not running liners or going tubeless in that kind of environment will invite flat tires. There are goat heads and plants with thorns so running only tube's and no liners you will get flats often.

    • @EverydayConversationsPodcast
      @EverydayConversationsPodcast Місяць тому

      @@ryanmeeker8587 idk what to tell ya man. I raced since i was a kid and i have never had a flat on the gnarliest of terrain with 60tpi XC tires, never had a flat off a thorn in my life. Rim strikes from big jumps and nails sure. I run tubeless on all my bikes for the last 4 years, never once has it saved me from a flat though. I only run them for more compliance. Only time i will run inserts is in the rear, if all i have is a enduro bike for jump lines at whistler or something. i actually find tubeless to be signicantly more maintenance. Whenever i ride hard its easy to burp the tires and mess up your ride whereas its not a problem whatsoever with tubes. I still know alot of racers that will only use tubes

      While renting paintball equipment for a morning or afternoon of paintball with your family and friends is relatively inexpensive for the customer the start up cost for the business is a bit expensive. He would need at least 10 to 20 paintball markers, goggles, hoppers, and air tanks to start with. That doesn't include the bulk tanks needed to fill the bottles, an air compressor so he doesn't have to rent the bulk compressed air tanks, chronographs to make sure the markers aren't shooting too hot, and the safety netting to separate the playing area from the safe zone. Not to mention actually building the playing area so it can be used. I am not saying it is impossible, but he has a long way to go before he even thinks about setting up a paintball/airsoft field at the resort. He would also need staff to run the field. At least one person at the registration counter for the field, one to two refs per group, and someone to maintain the rental equipment. There is a paintball field about 40 minutes from the Freedom House. That might be a bit far for a 2 or 3 hour session that most fields base private rental groups on, but at the same time there is already a place close enough he could recommend people go if he doesn't want the liability.

With Superview especially you can still see the bike moving around in frame, to convey how bumpy it is, without actually having the view itself jumping around.

    In regards to the bikes: it really depends on the difficulty level of trails your anticipating on making. If you’re talking about making some actual single tracks with lots of hills and tight turns, I would make sure you have some rentable non-electric bikes. All the extra weight and not having that fine granular control of what you’re doing will actually make those mountain bike rides much harder. (I run a Trek Roscoe 7, and it is awesome, only front suspension though.) Then you would want to have some nicer e-bikes for the longer distance rides.

    @offtheranch You should reach out to the MTB trail builders that work on Spider Mountain, up north of Austin. Having professional builders survey the area and figure out the best routes for good progression trails is ideal, and they'll be able to implement the best features for the terrain available.

    Heads up on the Hiboy e-bike. They good bikes especially for their price point however their brakes are very bad and would need to be replaced/upgraded frequently. I have a few of my own and love them now after replacing my brakes with a hydraulic set and bigger discs/pads. Cheers Matt!

    Another fairly simple thing ya could do is build out the disc golf course. Bit of path trimming, concrete tee pads, baskets and ya done.
    Could collab with one of the disc companies for input on layout design & even a run of desperado custom print discs for people to use.

    look into power cut offs for the e-bikes. some of the more expensive ones will shut off the power & lock the brakes when they cross a sensor line. that way you don't lose a bike to theft.
    they're very similar to what they put on shopping carts to keep people from taking them home away from the store parking lot.

    I'll say it again, need a disc golf course. Disc golf is a great sport and makes great use of hilly, treed up not groomed terrain. Cost to build relatively cheap, could use dirt tee pads or even small concrete slabs if you want a nice pad. I'd donate your first basket and I'm sure other golfers would help with more baskets. Maybe in the future you can have PDGA events there, would be good for the resort and bring in guests during the event.

    For the bike and cars you would include them in the different packages you would offer in a resort. Like let's say package D gets you access to Ebikes, and package c gets you the electric cards. package B gets you access to both. So of course you'll need way more than 2 car's. 😅😂 you would also need to work on a GPS path that the guests can follow for the best view's.

    Research your e-bike batteries carefully. Some Chinese brands catch fire while charging, and burn like a 360⁰ blowtorch with violent 3" flames. Its a class 4 fire (burning metal).
    They will burn down the building they are charging in. Be select.

    Personally I have a Mokwheel brand Basalt electric bike. It is BEEFY and can hold just over 400lbs so big boy friendly since most max out at 200-280lbs :) It is a fat tire bike and has more than enough power for hills and off-roading. Battery lasts long insanely and has great suspension. They also have step-through models if needed. Comes with a light and horn plus electric brake lights as well. 10/10 Recommend their brand and company. As a Demo plus, their weld lines on the bigger frame are very pretty to look at and inspire ya!
