Good for you to have a go.We Adjusted the Action on our banjo as not correct to nut ,l made nut groves a little deeper ,to bring.strings closer to fret .Plays much better now.We had a Gold Tone 4 string had a lot of problems with intination, so we changed to a Deering Sierra.4 string Wonderful Banjo .We hope you will get one one day ,a 5 string would suit you well. They are a little heavy as pot is amazing, You have a great talent ,you make. Your banjo sound great ,Much better with back off, keep it up you have a very bright future ahead.
Thanks so much! So far I’ve been more drawn to open back banjos than resonator… I suppose it’s just a personal preference. I hope you’ve been finding some time to make some music!!
Nice! - I've made half a dozen banjos. Here are my thoughts FWIW. The angle of the strings to the tailpiece is OK. It helps the bridge make better contact with the head. I agree with ditching that cheap-o resonator, along with the hardware that holds it on. . Check for any loose rim nuts but don't crank them down. I am a big fan of the shubb 5th string capo (Amazon), but spikes would be less expensive. Good for you for working on this !
Awesome vid. Thanks again for teaching folks. (No, it was great.) Your talent is beyond any equipment specs. ..Your playing on an old rattle-trap banjo'd be nice to hear. A screwy stinged-instrument, played by one with the heart for it, transcends mechanics/tuning flaws, etc. Could even make the song better: natural-unique sound effects?! (I believe it..)

@@shellybastion9974thank you for always being so dang kind and encouraging. You mean the world to me. I hope you had a great Christmas. Keep giving her those treats 😂
@@best10612 You are way beyond a natural talent. Believe it. Just keep playing and singing. As for Pawlee..she's getting more cat treats than are necessary or right. ..Can't help it. Pretty cool!
I love a project banjo! Removing the back made a big difference to my ears...cleaner definitely.
Oh good… to me afterwards I couldn’t hear the difference as much in the recording as real life… so I’m glad you could hear it!

Thanks so much! I wasn’t sure if the angle with the tailpiece was ok so that’s helpful to know!!
I prefer a simple low tension tail piece for claw hammer. I think they sound better.
Ya I still might do that if I decide I’m going to play this one much. Changing the strings is a pain with this one

Wow! That is the worst resonator I’ve ever seen. It even attached weird. I see why you took it off.
Ya it’s definitely a cheap banjo. For some reason these have almost a cult following but I think just because they were really common
