Tip for applicants: Please do the Interview and AIF WELL BEFORE THE DUE DATE. I did my AIF and submitted it a few days before but waited until the night before for my interview only to discover the software didn't work with the device I was using. In other words don't treat applications like all of your English essays.
1:28 OMFG I'm not getting in at this rate that my marks are going... my best mark this semester is calc which I got 97% (srsly I need to stop making those little mistakes...)

what if you failed some gr 11 courses does that matter but u recovered it in night school so repeated courses and then are major courses for the program but u got better grades in gr 12 and didnt redo the course
Hi. Im glad I came across this video. I also want to go into computer engineering at waterloo. I am trying to get into the early acceptance.. I am trying my best to do some extra stuff like getting certificates (like CS50), doing some volunteering, waterloo math contests, school performances, and some other stuff. I basically want to work at Apple in future! So, can you please give me some advices or info I need to know for the early acceptances this year ? (my grade 11 marks were nice, 93 avg overall.. 93 in math and physics gr 11, 91 in chem, 88 in eng :/, etc)
Marks are the most important, your ECs seem great, maybe try doing some hackathons as well. Your marks maybe aim for like a 95+, but it's still possible to get in with a 93 but it'll be on the lower side of things.
@@jlau04 That makes sense. Thank you for the replied though. I will try to get really good grades and do more relevant ECs. Gonna try my best and leave the rest to God
Hey, I just got into computer engineering. Is there any coding courses you take during a computer engineering degree? Or is it all physics and math and hardware courses?
I also wanted to ask, do grades actually matter in university. Obviously I mean you need a passing grade to move onto next year’s course but what if I get 2% higher than the passing grade. Do I still graduate the same way as everybody else?
Also, for the same program as yours, how much does the volunteer hours matter ?? I have 43 right now. Should I keep doing more and more like will it affect my admission ?
Hi!. Thanks for the helpful video. Do you know which grade 11 grades are used? For example if I have 3 required grade 12 grades (Advanced Function, Calculus, and Physics) but I don't have English, chemistry and one other grade 12 elective, would waterloo use the grade 11 equivalents for English and chemistry and a grade 11 elective of my choosing? I would appreciate your advice if possible. Thanks!
I only ever did history in the summer of grade 10. I never took english in the summer and I don't think I would recommend it since Waterloo supposedly penalizes your overall average for doing so. However, if you do want to take a course over the summer, doing grade 11 functions would be wise to fast track so you can have some spares in grade 12.
What about transfers for CS? I have a perfect 4.0 in college and 95percent average in high school (Indian board exam) with good extracurricular like clubs, research projects, committees, organizing tedx talks with full capacity and some awards. I’m in the USA right now at a college, do you think I have a shot?
Man English is really sucking right now. I just wanted to know how big of a program English is for Waterloo. Like here are my marks: gr 12 physics 99, gr 12 chem 98, gr 12 adv func. 100, gr 12 calc and vec 99, and my elective is 100(no adjustment factor). But English is at a 78 😬 now it’s not like I can’t speak English you know. I got good communication skills and social skills it’s just that I was never good at analyzing the ‘deeper’ meaning of a text or writing a 1500 word essay and along with that English is so subjective and if the teacher doesn’t like you, then you’re definitely getting a bad mark. So how big of a problem is this 78 in English?
@@jlau04 I’ve been trying my best but it’s so frustrating. I mean I’ve sat down with my teacher talking about where I can improve. I’ve taken all that information and applied it to my writing but still nothing good comes out of it
Hey man im just going to do the aif this week... Loved the video tho ❤
hi! I scored 92% in grade 11 but I haven't applied for early acceptance, will that affect my application? Do you have any suggestions for international students?
And Waterloo’s engineering programs are 5 years not 4 because you work for 2 years and study for 3 years, but you can choose to do co-op for up to 1-2 terms i believe.
@@jlau04 Typically, you will be enrolled in a 4 or 8 stream co-op program, where you attend school for a 4 or 8 month term, and then work in a co-op job for the same length of time. This alternation continues for about 5 years, allowing you to get around 2 years of experience when you graduate.
Does Waterloo have any pre-applications? Is so, do you know where I can find the deadlines for pre-application? Also, do you have to apply separately for the early acceptance or does that come from the regular application? Thanks
pre-applications idk i don’t think so, but you can find it on the waterloo website if there is any info. I’m pre sure early acceptance just comes from the regular application deadline
waterloo is canadas top engineering university? nah nah nah! UofT is canadas top engineering university. All jokes, both are tied and have strengths, nice video!
loo at the top 😤😤😤 But yeah in all seriousness both are great universities, and at the end of the day the only difference is probably Waterloo's co-op and UofT's international prestige/reputation.
