We've been forced to change our plans | Stress of narrowboat life - 257

- Full-time living aboard our 50ft narrowboat has been great recently. Aside from a few tense moments and some long cruises, we've been loving the UK's beautiful canals and rivers, checking off navigations on our tiny off-grid home. But life on a narrowboat is never simple, and in this episode, after ending the last one on such a high, starts off with a forced change of plans. It's not one we wanted to make, but we have to adapt and carry on as best we can 🙁
Thanks for checking out our video, please like and subscribe for to join us on our narrowboat adventure! 💕

You guys are such a joy to watch...and while that day was scary for you, I'm watching and rewatching you and others to calm my nerves sitting here in canada waiting on the US election results...terrified and you all are great for my mental health today...thank you 🫶
Thank you! Totally agree, we do the same when we're stressed too. Best of luck, stay safe 💕💕
Waiting here in the US - election results.. Do you need a live aboard maid?
Might need to leave this craziness!
Rufus is doing what dogs have done forever...guarding the entrance. Its in his DNA. Gooood boooy!
Big love to you all and really hope everything is ok. On a side note...your channel is getting better and better! You can tell you put so much effort into each and every episode. We watch every episode and you make us very happy! Thank you! 🥰😘
Rufus is so loyal. He’s telling you that it’s All for one and one for all. If you’re going to drive in bad weather then he will suffer with you. Sticking together.
Aw I love that 🥰 perhaps you’re right!
That picture of you in the rain ☔️- some resilience to do this on the daily.
Loved your hair simulation Wes. Had a real giggle! Hahahaha.
Boat Time wooly hat merch launch?! 😄
You both did a fantastic job coming up the Sharpness and then on the Severn to Gloucester. Never doubt your ability to manage! Wes, you did an amazing feat in getting GG onto the pontoon, and with the ever redoubtable Amy by your side, you can't fail. Sending big hugs to you both. Xx
The Edward Elgar (you can't escape refs to Elgar round here, even the road I live off... lol) goes just up and down the Severn and G&S Canal. Ideal if you like sitting about watching the water go by, eating food and the odd day trip out to Malvern (Morgan Motors tour) or Upton etc.
PS: Staring into space a la Amy is our favourite hobby. 😂😂
Great episode. I hope you're all okay 🫂🫂🫂
I look forward to your vlogs each week. Thank you for posting this episode in spite of your bad news. Praying for you all. Hugs all around.
Thank you so much 💕 we’re doing our best to keep sharing as we go
@BoatTime you are doing a great job! I am here even if you need time away. Your vlogs always make me smile and sometimes even giggle.
Missed what was wrong but trust it’s getting better or sorted -by the way @YOU WERE ON Gloucester/Forest time in the Dock !! 😂 😂 it’ll happen when it happens “Old Butt!” Stay safe your doing well Malc uk 🇬🇧
The windy hair 😂😂😂😂
All the best during this time 😍
Thank you! ♥
What a tough few days! Love your resilience.
thank you! 😊
Awww bless Rufus, such a good boy , Hugz to you three.
I enjoy ur videos, luv the chemistry between u just not convinced ur dog really enjoys canal boat life but maybe as he gets older he will n he’s still lucky to hv great owners. Thanks for the effort u put in🫡✌️💕
Ah thank you! 🥰 trust us, he does! He’s 7.5 years old and lived on a boat longer than on land 😉 he’s just impatient
@@BoatTimeoh wow. New here n thought he was a puppy! He’s pristine looking🤣sorry about that!
When life gives you lemons ... sometimes that's all you are left with: lemons. Sorry about the bad news but glad to see (from earlier in the comments) that you are ok. At least you seem to be able to make swift progress (prescriptions aside). Cruising quickly is not always possible, and it seems that at least that part is not adding further stress. Safe travels!
It's funny seeing the old mega anxious Wes sometimes come through on the new videos, when there's no need - it's a tough mooring, it takes effort, but it's nothing you haven't done before - you've got this (and you did). Many other boaters look on in envy because they literally can't do what you're doing, so stop being so hard on yourself!
Thanks for that vid it must of been hard to shoot while your feeling blarrr worried and wet. It made me feel more grounded knowing there is other stuff going on in the world besides the stinking us election l am in Michigan just me and my dog Sally sitting here being genuinely scared for the future.Hope things are ok with you. You make my day.❤
Yeah it can be tricky to capture sometimes! Awh good luck, we're all rooting for you over here. Stay safe! 💕
great vlog on cranking it on the cut stay safe on the cut grat vlog thanks for the share ion channel thanks lee
Thanks Lee! 😊
Hi Amy and Wes. That looked like a bit of a slog but you made it to Upton in just a couple of days. Good of Pete and Caroline to help you get moored. Hugs to you all 🥰 Take care. Nick
Ahhh bless you both your poor little faces cruising in the rain and wind, poor Rufus wasn't happy.
But hey your off of that river now, thank goodness.
Love your vlogs and you guys and of course Rufus.
Take care have a good week ❤
I'm watching this on bonfire night.
I guess your at least 7weeks behind, 😂 I'm wrapped up warm while you both wear T shirts.😅
Hopefully your over the scary part of the river. 💚
Yeah we've slipped behind somewhat! 😅 Yeah we're safe from the river now thankfully!
Hey guys. Hope everything worked out as good as it could. Life isn't always good to us, but you guys handle it pretty well and seem to keep a pretty good attitude towards whatever it throws at you. Boils down to how you want to go through life I guess.
Thanks for sharing. Take care. (🎸😜)
Thanks for the vlog, When are you 2 going to get some proper wet weather gear including wellie boots?
Bless you guys having to cram in so much travelling, take care and stay safe sending the very best wishes and hugs 🤗 ps if you’re having issues getting your prescription try to ask for your doc to prescribe the actual drugs name on your repeat prescription and not the brand name, as a lot of chemist will prefer the cheaper version over a specific brand name - I hope that makes sense and helps 🤗
Thank you! 💓 oh interesting, we'll have to give that a go thanks!
Safe Travels!! Sending Hugs 🫂🫂🫂🫂
Awwww soz for yr problem hope all is now well luv from the oldies tc xx🤗🤗🤗
Thank you! 🤗
I’m pleased you’re both ok, what were the plans changes , i didn’t see anything on vlog?? 😢
we will be sharing soon! we just needed to get moving first and get things in place 😊
thank you ♥️
that looked like fun🤗
Is the Severn at risk of flooding? Keep calm and safe. You'll be fine❤
Thank you! Yes, but thankfully we're off it now x
Good one you three. 🙏
thank you ☺️
Edward Elgar is a pretty cool boat. We had my grans 80th birthday party on it in 2005.
Ah no way that's amazing!
💜💙💚 Sending big hugs.
hugs 🫂 ♥️
😊Always enjoy your vlogs. Keep calm and carry on.😊 You really need to invest in some rain coats and sensible foot wear. No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.. Embrace life and enjoy your journey's..❤
Even though some of us know what's coming, its still going to feel like a shock - massive hugs to you all 🥰. And hats off for getting that much cruising done in that wind and rain 👏👏. Speaking of hats - was that official boattime merch being worn Amy 🤔
What do you mean ?
Peace and calm Xx
💕💕
Hi to Fran and Rich!
I think that when you have to rush somewhere not of your choosing boredom is likely with reference to Wes’ comment… how’d you get wet clothes dry?
we wish it was just because of boredom…
They dry quickly by the fire 😊
Love you xxx
Love you too! 💕
How far can you go on Severn like 40 miles or more
A pity you rushed away. The GS is worth staying a while. I'm here for at least 6 months!
FYI
1. As per the instructions on the pontoons at Gloucester Basin, when you want to leave the basin, at either end, call LLanthony bridge keeper, where you eventually walked 🙂
2. The weir at Gloucester is half a mile from the lock, so its probably the most remote from the lock on the entire river. If you'd gone down, you'd probably have run aground long before you got there, and someone would have come down and pulled you back up. If you'd stayed longer you could have walked down to the weir and seen the old disused lock and railway bridge. Do it next time you visit. Two week ago of course there was no weir! The severn was up over that wall you tried to moor at 😲. You could circumnavigate Alney Island as both weirs were probably 15' underwater 😆
3. The edward Elgar goes up as far as Stourport. Full itinerary on the web. It's stopped now for the winter and currently I can see it out of my window as I'm moored opposite it. If you have £3K to spend, you could take a 6 day trip next year...
The lock keeper will not let you out of gloucester if you are likely to meet the EE (or one of the other large vessels) in the narrows. He'll also turn you back at upper parting until clear.
4. The Mythe waterworks is a major treatment plant for severn trent water. It provides most of Gloucestershire's water. In July 2007, the river flooded, swamping the plant, cutting off all water for the area. Living in Gloucestershire at the time, we were without water for nearly 6 weeks. The army were called in, and bottled water and bowsers were provided. It was fun, not 😞. Luckily the electricity distribution for Cheltenham and gloucester was saved from flooding by an inch. Had it breached, the entire towns of Cheltenham and gloucester would have been evacuated.
5 At Upton, most boats raft up on the outside. At this years Upton Blues Festival I think they were 12 deep.
Great insights thank you 👍
What was the bad news you got?
We'll be updating everyone in the vlogs soon, but for now we just needed to get moving. We're okay though 💕
Sending ❤️
If you ever get chance to come back to Gloucester , Slimbridge WWT is a great place to visit and only a 10 minute walk from the canal.
Love following your adventures 😜✌️💜
Oooh nice! That's great to know thank you! 😁
@BoatTime and if you want to see Gloucester docks lock and the Quay wall there are live stream web cams you can watch (Google search 😜)
I'll second that..... Slimbridge WWT is amazing.
@@andrewburrage3822 ah! gutted we missed this, it was on our wish list of places to visit 😞 maybe next time!
Love your videos The River 7 is Extremely dangerous The water level goes up and down very quickly and has flooded Newtown where I live in several times how far up the river 7 can you get a canal boat In the old days you could get a boat up to Pool quay just down the road from Newtown Not a canal boat unless you came down the Montgomery Canal which went through pool quay too But not connected to the river
Agreed! It's a pretty scary river for sure, very powerful 😯 Woah that's amazing, we're looking forward to more of the Montgomery to be restored!
you went passed Laura Maisie "Floating the Boat " when going to tewkesbury.
Yep! We put their channel name on screen 🙂
Another great vlog, stay safe all of you. X
Please settle an argument, what did Amy have on her chips in Upton ?
mint sauce 😂 Wes was equally disgusted don't worry
We were also wondering that! Haha! 😂😂
@@FlossyJim it didn’t look that appealing but it was proper nice 😂
Whatever has happened I hope it is sorted out for you both, ASAP. So sorry you to leave in such a rush, it must have been really stressful for you both.
TFS & take care too. 👍🐶
Are you guys still in Upton? It's my hometown.
Afraid not! But it's a wonderful town 😀
@BoatTime the river gets really entertaining when the wind blows against the current. I used canoe most of the Severn pretty regularly.
Where was the "news"???? Did I miss it? Or were we tricked into watching lol
we said at the start we will share when we are ready, for now we were just focusing on getting where we need to be.
It’s been tough for us, we will tell everyone soon
Why no umbrella !
once you’re wet, can’t get any wetter and it kept blowing inside out 😅
Hi guys! Keep soldiering on
Thank you! 💕
That thumbnail should become the default image for "Not all heroes wear capes"
Ahah it's quite a dramatic image that's for sure 😅
Maybe there's something buzzing that is bothering your dog.
what do you mean?
Or he’s just needy. 😁
afraid of missing something more like 😂
I bet you wish you were going to WOOTON WOWEN(or however it’s written) 😃
😂😂 who doesn't wish they were going there?!
