YOMI's voice has changed, there's not really anything he can do about that (he's been singing 15 years don't forget), and it's not necessarily a bad thing. They just need to find a new way to approach song writing with his voice. I don't think the fast, almost rap like verses (like blur, quints etc) going into predictable chorus lines are working, I don't know. This song is one on the album that is getting some good structure back I think.
"Siva" is a good example of his vocals working with the music. I actually like the way they handled "Quints" and "blur", but, as I mentioned in another comment, "Tao" sounds really bad with his vocals. I've read in various places that it's because he stopped smoking, so it's impossible to do anything about that, but he would definitely benefit from a professional teaching him how to work what he has now in better ways.
***** Thank you Athanasius! Yeh, feels great to be home and great to see all the impressions you guys are giving, thanks a lot! Yes, I totally agree that his voice sounds different, but a lot comes from singing for 15 years now and apparently he's stopped smoking as well so that also ends up effecting on his voice. I don't know, I kinda like it still, but like some other people have mentioned it's more about how you adjust the music to his voice now than ever before, and on that point I think the album is lacking on some songs. Alas, I still enjoy listening to it, and one can only hope they put more time into the next album so we get a better product in the end :)
Hey, nice to see you rediscovering them again and that you still like what you hear. Unfortunately though there won't be any more content coming from them for a while because they're going on a hiatus before this year ends but, you're welcome to check my channel for a few newer songs I've uploaded at least :)
Yeah! Glad to see you're back to uploading! How was your stay in Japan? Hope you had a good flight! And wow, I'd forgotten all about the new album! I must say, you've chosen a beautiful song to translate. Good translation too. Thanks a lot!
Joris A Thank you so much, feels good to be home! :) It was amazing, all my expectations were met and overcome by a large margin so I'm really glad I got to make this journey :) Yes, this song really is the one that stands out on the album in my opinion, I do hope you get a chance to listen to the album before long as well! Thank you again :)
Anthrax904 Glad to hear it!I really like the album actually, which is a relief as the two singles were a big disappointment to me. Sudden thought: do you also find "the DOOL" very similar to "the FOOL"? In melody, in title, in length... can't be a coincidence, can it?
I think it isn't a bad album, but it isn't the best (this is for me the seventh album - NIGHTMARE) but it is good. I like this album more than TBONTB, because you don't have to listen a few times, before you get in. And my fav song on the Album is Quints xDD I don't know, I like it ... And I don't know, but I think Tao is one of good songs of the Album .... Nameless isn't that good, but the lyric is cool and that's why I like the song, too ^^ Do you hear this in 3:20 here in the video? This is my favourite in Siva. (The name reminds me of Ziva David of NCIS o.O)
naitomea14 Hey, thank you for your comments as always! :) Yes, I also think it's a good album and that it has a couple of good songs except Siva which is extremely good, but other than that it reaches to a good level but not much more. I think NAMELESS is really good though, a song with great energy and as you say, awesome lyrics :) Yes, I'm glad you mentioned that part as it truly is the best part of the song! :D
I agree with you. I've been following the band since the Ultimate Circus era, and these last two albums have been more on the meh side -- especially this one.
I really loved "SCUMS" - I know it seems to split the fanbase, but I thought the band handled the electronics wonderfully (aside from some minor meh parts). However, "TO BE OR NOT TO BE" was the first time I thought to myself, "This album isn't that great". "CARPE DIEM", though...it's the first album I honestly thought, "Wow, this is borderline bad". Even on good songs like "Tao", YOMI's vocals just butcher them to no end. I don't know what's happened to his voice, but he needs to find a vocal coach, pronto.
Joseph Plante It took me seeing the music from scums live to really get into it, but I see your point. I understand that bands change and need to change to keep things "fresh", but Carpe Diem" sounds so hastily written. It's nothing new, and nothing mind blowing. They have much more talent than that, so I'm wondering if the album was rushed. My problems didn't just lie in the vocals, but also the instrumentals -- there was a lot of holding back...
The Night Star I agree about the compositions being lacking, too. There's not many tracks that stand out to me on "CARPE DIEM". I think the band needs to rest their creative juices - they've released four albums in just a little over four years, after all! I wouldn't mind if next year they didn't release an album until the very end of the year at the earliest. They could always release singles/b-side collection to tide fans over in the meantime.
I didn't have the chance to listen to all CARPE DIEM songs yet, but I must say I really liked Quints and Siva. Even if I just feel like... I don't know. Something with Yomi's voice is different. It's deeper. And I liked it better before. But still, Siva in particular is really nice. I just wish they'd take more time to make their songs. I mean, on the one hand I found it really long when it took nearly two whole years for The GazettE to announce a new release, on the other hand I find it awefully fast when Nightmare releases something like 20 songs per year.
Thanks so much for your uploads over the years! Seriously so grateful. I've just uploaded my first video, a guitar cover of Kami to Bara, please check it out!
i love nightmare's slow songs

Anthrax904 Yeah, hopefully they'll wait until next year to release something new...

Yeahh, not only me likes this part of the song!!
What's your opinion of the new album? As a big fan I have to say I'm disappointed sadly :( Thanks for your uploads though!
