Writing from Victoria, Australia. Great video, gents. I own a 2001 CLK 55 AMG ... 342hp and quite surprisingly economical. I can get 10.5L/100km and even better on highways. I love the shape of the car and its styling. Reminds me of our classic Holden Monaro from 1968-1971.
I am thinking of buying this car and this video came verry helpful, so now I'm saving money for it. Thank you guys for making this great video, keep up the good work🔥
I had a 2001 SLK with that same 230K engine in. Stock 197hp. Had it remapped which took it to 238hp; that's 20hp more than the S/CLK 320 ! Cracking engine. Had no issues with it whatsoever.
Bought a jet black with brown interior. Year 2000. Fully loaded Elegance Amg alloys, Sunroof. Only 85kms (52000 miles 2 owners) import from Italy to Spain. Cars here on 2nd hand market are 20% more than Uk. So price was £4600 about €5200. No rust at all inside like new. I thinkin the next 5 years these will pick up in price. In Spain ive seen then at €7500! Which could be badge snobbery. People own small SEATS and Peugeot
I had one of these back in the day. 😊 Great bargain, classy, lovely to drive. 😊 In my view this shape would be a classic in years to come. Kind of wish I did not sell mine. Should have kept it as a perhaps second run around car!!!!
Great video, very informative. In my opinion it sounds awesome straight piped, like a classier version of an A45, or an older version of a CLA45, of course a lot slower but should still be good for traffic light dashes along Cromwell Road :)
Just about to go look at a one owner, 1999, CLK320 Convertible with 120k miles and full MB service history! Guys asking for £1,300 but has all receipts and will get any outstanding issues sorted before I collect! No rust on the wheel arches and looks tidy, Wot do you think?? Worth the risk?? 🤔😎
Sounds like a pretty good deal if he is getting everything sorted, these old Mercedes are pretty reliable. Great with no rust too, with that kind of history doesn't seem that risky to me at all. If it drives well id buy it!
Hello, im about to buy a clk 230k from the year 2000 with 200k kilometers on it for 3500 euros. Am i crazy ? Its à garage that sales it so it has 3 month warranty. How many km does this particular car and engine do in its life ?
I've had a few merc's. I've a clk now their lovely to sit in and drive. There very reliable. They are cheap to buy.. Say with the 2.0 kompresser.... Your 230 2.3 are heavy on petrol
underrated and cheap also for 2000€ you can get one... clk200 K or 230K 163hp 193hp you cant get that for cheaper.... 3000€ if its a good state :) runs e85 cheap 0.60€/L love my car
Would love to but we actaully swapped it for our Honda accord/Rcord build. The previous owner has told us though that he has done some upgrades to it and is making around 250hp!
You can honestly pick one up in the UK for around £1500 or even cheaper. Maintenance is all depends on the engine, the bigger the more maintenance. on this engine is its not that much, unless you need to access the chain.
Own one myself, got it from my grand father before he passed away from cancer.. It was a nice gift and it touched my heart. Its really sad to see that it rusts like no other car. They really cut corners on those models. The electricity is saddening too. Mercedes should be ashamed.
I know right I prefer the older ones as they aren’t computerised. So If a problem occurs in the computer you either have to give your car up or pay a hefty amount to get it up and running agaib
I have owned a W208 for 16 years. It is a bottomless money pit, and many parts are no longer available from MB. Fuel economy is never over 40 mpg on my Kompressor 200 automatic. On a run you will achieve high twenties, round town 24 mpg. Parts from Mercedes if you can get one are ridiculous. A new MAF sensor from MB is £352. You can get a Bosch one for £95. Also Mercedes cars of this era are severely prone to rust around the Wheel arches, boot lock. The leather stitching on the front seats tends to split. If the car is registered after March 2001, VED will cost you £585. Even changing the spark plugs is a major job. Once these four cylinder Kompressor engines get to 80,000 the engine wiring loom tends to fill with oil.
16 years is a long time to own a car, cars will always have there problems and will never be perfect. Electric can be expensive on all Mercedes its always been that way and I agree although expensive the electric do fail. However we have owned a lot of Mercedes in our time and find that the earlier Mercedes pre 2004 were quite reliable mechanically compared to other European competition. They are definitely a luxury brand and cost a lot of money when new this must be taken into account when buying a cheaper used one, just because the purchase price is cheaper doesn't mean it will be cheaper to maintain. Not all but some of the newer Mercedes however we have had pretty severe issues much more than the earlier ones
I have one, from 1999, for seven years now, every problem I had was self inflicted by me :) Any kind of parts I needed from bumpers, doors, traction control valves and mechanisms, always got in 2nd hand or junkyard. Supercharged cars are getting pretty rare nowadays. Which is a shame because there often really great cars to drive!
What's involved with remapping is that expensive
Remap and kompressor pulley too?
I just bought a C270 CDI from 2004 5 cylinders / 170 bhp /370 NM of torque at 1700 rpm with 295 000 km . The seller was selling a CLK 270 CDI too .
4 mins in and im a subscriber already! I love cheap car content!
We are always going to have plenty of that
Awesome car!! Got my clk 230k recent as a project car love the heck out of it

Use to have one of these back in 2012. There were heavy rains 🌧 a fence fell on it and crushed the whole car. Miss it so much
this car is a beast, just drove it today for the first time, it was fucking amazing
They are great great value for the money!
@@HudRodAutomotive they sure are, my dad got a sweet deal on it, so much car for so little money :d
Have you done a gearbox reset? It’s a learning gearbox that learns your driving style. A reset wipes it’s memory and learns your driving style.
Didn't know that was a thing at this age, Would have liked to try that however car has no been sold :(
@@HudRodAutomotiveWhat a shame.
In my country current prices for these goes for $6,000 up depending on the condition
We can imagine that the bigger engine and more desirable/rare models are going to become a little modern classic!
Ducking love the intro 🦆
the clk a208 convertible is the classic of tomorrow
That can be driven every day!
Great video, very informative. In my opinion it sounds awesome straight piped, like a classier version of an A45, or an older version of a CLA45, of course a lot slower but should still be good for traffic light dashes along Cromwell Road :)
Well with a smaller pulley and remap would help a long a bit more, you can also some sideway action out of it which is not possible in the 4wd a45's
I own the same car, very comfortable 👌🏾
And with 18“ wheels and all black it looks really good 😈
How is the maintenance cost?
@@Alick.outdoors its about 100€ per Month for me
In the UK they are great cars for the money, easy to drive every day and look cool with a set of wheels
@@HudRodAutomotive its really rare in germany and a good eye-Catcher 🤙🏽
Yes sure, it is good to drive and makes a lot of fun 😇
If the x and y reg cars use the same engine you can request a certificate of conformity from Mercedes and forward to TFL for exemption from ULEZ
My favourite car

@@HudRodAutomotive just found out the private plate that is coming with it is worth £400 so even better!!! 👏🏻👍🏻😎
£1300 for that is an absolute steal. Aside from the dodgy panel quality they're superb. 320 is a great engine, too.
Had mine for 7 years and hands down my fav car of all time and I have had loads of top end cars. Any updates?
Nice car! i prefer the preface because of the steering wheel and the cool white sport instrument!
I have the E230 1997 elegance and i wanted to swap this engine into it tbh
That is awesome, Old Merc's are great cars. Possibly better than new ones
@@HudRodAutomotive Thanks! they really are. I choose to drive my W210 anyday over my dad's newer W212 tbh, my dad's is nice to drive also tho.
great video
Glad you enjoyed it

That is absolutely fine I hope you enjoy it, especially with a warranty as problems are more likely in the first 3 months
One of the best engines made
Bullet proff and fast

On a motorway run we didn’t find the car too bad at all but the mpg definitely plummets in town!
@@HudRodAutomotive spot on 👌
Their very quiet and smooth on the road. A cruiser lol 😂
underrated and cheap also

And all in all not crazy expensive to run and we think starting to look more a more like a classic
In my country are asking from 15-19k dollars.😢
Thinking of making a drift missle from one of these :D
That sounds like a great idea, you can find some manual and they have a decent amount of torque
Nice vid, guys. Maybe do an update?
Would love to but we actaully swapped it for our Honda accord/Rcord build. The previous owner has told us though that he has done some upgrades to it and is making around 250hp!
Great car! I have a 2001 clk55 and it's been awesome
Wow that must be a great car. We love the 5.5 V8 M113 engines. Possibly the best engine Mercedes made and with AMG body kit that is a really cool car!
5000€ or more, in solid condition in Germany..
Still a great car at that price and if its from Germany it will probably be in a much better state of health than the ones sold in the UK
Bro how much do you have to pay for this one in the Uk and how is the maintenance cheap or expensive?
You can honestly pick one up in the UK for around £1500 or even cheaper. Maintenance is all depends on the engine, the bigger the more maintenance. on this engine is its not that much, unless you need to access the chain.
Can you tell me the fuel consumption because english is not mine first language and it is a but hard to me to understand the imperial math. 😅
around 7.5 L to 9.5L/100km depending on urban driving to motorway cruising.
My ambition
Какой расход по городу и по трассе?
try the v8 m113
you be crying in joy
Just bought one of these (CLK320) for £460 🤣
That's a steal for this amount of car and the CLK320 can get pretty lively with the Traction control off!
