I’m not trying to take anything away from these dads - I’m sure they put in a lot of effort to maintain a healthy relationship with their daughters - but I don’t think the average middle class household is represented here. I think these are pretty wealthy and privileged families, and a lot of money just makes parenting a tad bit easier. Just something to keep in mind, especially for “ordinary” parents who watch this video and mirror their situation to the ones shown here.

As a man I 100% agree but I think, emotionally, a lot of us hear “toxic masculinity” and think of the aesthetics of masculinity, so if you’re told that you’re the opposite of toxic masculinity, it is interpreted as “you don’t look or sound masculine.” And I do think that’s what people mean sometimes-they’ll see a feminine or less-masculine man and think “not toxic masculinity” when a feminine guy can absolutely have toxic, misogynistic beliefs and behaviors, and a guy who’s outwardly very masculine can be introspective, empathetic, and thoughtful. As a man I 100% agree but I think, emotionally, a lot of us hear “toxic masculinity” and think of the aesthetics of masculinity, so if you’re told that you’re the opposite of toxic masculinity, it is interpreted as “you don’t look or sound masculine.” And I do think that’s what people mean sometimes-they’ll see a feminine or less-masculine man and think “not toxic masculinity” when a feminine guy can absolutely have toxic, misogynistic beliefs and behaviors, and a guy who’s outwardly very masculine can be introspective, empathetic, and thoughtful. I think a lot of people confuse aesthetics and mannerisms with behaviors and ideology.
