      I think that the more languages people speak, the more intelligent (likely) they are. I only speak two but I am amazed by people who can speak 3 or 4 or more as I know it must have taken lots of dedication to learn them and practice them so they're able to speak all fluently. People who speak 7 or more languages are downright geniuses in a way in my book..

      @AlexCamri Рік тому +115

      @@MoahGentleI want to add my two cents on it.
      I'm a linguistics and international affairs graduate. I'm in the club of the "hiperpolyglots" with over 12 languages.
      Speaking languages is a skill that can be overestimated.
      Most people, can speak up to 4 at a time, with studies in linguistics or a background on multicultural environments, people can double that number.
      But that's only regarding the languages you can speak at a time. I've studied and learned 16, and yet I'm not capable of working (I'm a translator-intepreter) on more than 5 at a time writing, or 3 speaking.
      The brain's storage is capable of keeping safe lots of info, and lots of languages, but it's processing power won't let you go that far.
      In fact, Interpreters work in couples, cause they need to rest quite often, as processing two languages can lead to brain damage, in extreme cases. Imaging overclocking your CPU for it to go faster, yet it wears out faster as well.
      Another fun fact to end my comment.
      The more languages you learn, the slower your brain picks up info on what you need 😂
      It's hard for you to find a polyglot who don't stutter, cause their brain has to go through double or triple(depending on how many languages they speak) the amount of words before coming up with the one they need.
      You hear me speak and you'll hear me say "uuhhh... Ehmm..." Lots, and that's why I speak slower and clearer, for my speech to be understandable and avoid those annoying stops.

    One thing that a lot of ppl don't know about IQ tests is that the 100 score average gets reset all the time, so we could actually be much smarter or dumber than the past generation and wouldn't know it. Their average was 115 btw, not 100, which, when you consider the sample is uni kids that's about right probably.

    • @AnimatorBlake
      @AnimatorBlake Рік тому

      Thing is, all IQ tests are endemically viable. They are relevant only to the group whose education and experience they are designed for. The reason 100 changes across tests because of this difference. The only way to test between generations is to use information taught to both in the same way.
      Only thing we know about past generations is that they were hotter. Literally, their body temperature was higher.

      Sure, and there's not a causal relationship between high/low IQ and one's success, but if I'm not mistaken there's definitely a correlation right? I think It just depends what the purpose of the testing is for.

      Yeah! I have dyscaculia and I really struggle with shapes, numbers and patterns. I can’t follow the through line, memorise number strings or do really any basic mathematical calculations. I have maybe at best 4/5th grade maths. It’s always been something that’s held me back, despite trying to pursue veterinary medicine. I don’t think I’m that smart either; not trying to fish for compliments neither, but like. Tests are such a reductive and silly method to equate something as dynamic and ever changing as intelligence or a person’s ability to succeed or demonstrate “capability”. I know so, so many absolutely out of this world people who flunked school, were homeless or struggled in dead end jobs/unemployment. People who still aren’t “successful” by society standard milestones, but just have their heads on straight. Tests only alienate the amazing capability of an entire group of people and compares and shames people based on the “testing method”.

    i mean yeah like Cody said, the thing about IQ test results is it varies depending on how cooked or fresh you are or your brain is when you took the test. plus i believe you can "train yourself" to be much smarter at seeing the patterns and solving the puzzles, so it's by no means an "end all be all" type of indicator imo.

    Actual IQ tests take HOURS maybe a day or days depending which form of intelligence test you're taking and for what purpose. I've taken an intelligence tests mutiple times and certified IQ tests two times in my life. They were related to testing my neurodiverse brain lol. (ASD and Dyslexia Test) I've been tested multiple times by my school too, since I was "odd" just to find out at 18 that I'm on the autism spectrum😅

      Yeah! I got one last year for I think mainly anxiety (they also took the liberty to say they don't think I have ADHD because my grades were too good when I was younger? After I had been greatly benefiting from meds for years?) and it was a super interesting process! It also really showed how IQ tests do not work lmao. Like I did significantly worse in a couple sections because I would triple check everything out of anxiety so my time would be way longer. Having anxiety doesn't make me more stupid but it does make me worse at IQ tests. I still think they do have value, just not really for quantifying intelligence. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

    • @katet8639
      @katet8639 Рік тому +6

      @@ghostsoffishandcrows7341 i agree. The second time I got tested, I was very nervous. It resulted in me scoring significantly lower than the first time. It went so bad that I broke down crying. The lady who tested me was really kind in that situation. She told me its not the end of the world and it normal to cry under stress or nerves. It was embarrassing to me though😅
      So you're absolutely right, nerves can make you present worse. And IQ test aren't really a accurate representation of someones intelligences.

      @@ghostsoffishandcrows7341 I got tested multiple times too for ADHD. I had good grades in elementary school, but then really started to struggle with time in middle school, so I got tested. The thing about doing the IQ tests for an ADHD diagnoses is they aren't just measuring your IQ, the test administrator is also evaluating how you answer questions and your body language during the test. So for mine, every question that I answered was correct, but I kept skipping questions if I didn't know how to do them within 10 seconds, and then I ran out of time to go back and complete them. The administrator said that the score from those tests is irrelevant when it comes to neurodivergent people.

However, that is normally why there is also a confidence interval to show the range one could fall into when testing again!

    they should have had them take the iq tests first because studies show (ik sorry but like how else should one say that) that a person's belief about themselves and how they feel they are expected to perform can impact how they actually do perform, so people at the end could do worse than they would have if they're being influenced by the fact that everyone has ranked them as the least intelligent (and vice versa for the highest ranking people). idk if that phenomenon showed up here cause i'm only at the part where they are taking the tests now, but either way i'm curious to know if/how the results might have differed, if even slightly, had they taken the tests prior to discussing and establishing a ranking.
