Every skinny person I've met has said they grew up hearing all the same comments.
The show seems more like a destructive therapy for the judges, if you look at some of the contestants where its a more attractive woman, the female judge tears her apart while the men are nicer, and when its a more attractive male contestant, the female judge is nice and the two male judges tear him apart, they're just being insecure on public television
19:49 “This is what I like. I think my big thighs make me sexy and everybody out there is so puny. And it’s not about the size, it’s about how you work it.” FUCKING GO OFF SIS DAMN U TELL EM STRAIGHT
@Death Omen these differences in beauty perception are not entirely arbitrary, however. Having more fat was seen as attractive in the past because it was a sign of luxury, abundance, and wealth. It meant you could afford to indulge, whereas if you were skinny (as most were) you could not afford enough food. In richer areas of the world, tans and darker complexions are generally attractive because they're a sign that you can afford to take time off from the prohibitive 9-5 indoors at a desk job or in a grocery store/fast food spot to spend time outside, whereas in poorer areas of the world as in most of history, lighter skin is more attractive as it means you can take time off from the agricultural duties necessary to survive. I could go on
@Death Omen This isn't really your main point, but I just want to say that to my understanding, corsets were used for the same reason we use bras today. A good corset shouldn't be uncomfortable, similar to how a good bra should also make you feel good and provide support.
I’m sorry but all those contestants are absolutely attractive. I don’t know their personalities but judging just from looks alone, like they did, they are all above average.
Damn.... And while the agencies were telling them they were too big for the role, jerks would tell them to go eat a burger because they're too skinny (their words, not mine). That really has to really fuck with your head bro :(
This is still how they talk to models. They still won't employ women in a lot of industries if they do not have measurements below a certain number - I'm talking corporate jobs, airlines, clothing retailers, publishing houses. There is still only one size of female uniform at a lot of airlines and if it doesn't fit, you can't work. Nowadays, they just claim it's due to 'health & safety'.
Not just models, but actresses as well -- and it's absolutely still going on. Jennifer Lawrence spoke about some Hollywood agent forcing her to get naked and then circling every part on her body with "too much fat." Jennifer freaking Lawrence.
Ok but he also called her a stripper, then white girls came out next in equally revealing dresses and he said they were gorgeous…. Not sitting right, but the whole show doesn’t so lol

Younger people PLEASE be careful, wear SPF everyday. Don't tan. And learn to love whatever shade of skin you have. ✨

I've met women that I wasn't super physically attracted to that were sexy. The way a woman carries herself, talks and the look in her eye can be really magnetic. Not a lot of women have it but the women that do exude confidence and are really attractive in their own way. That's how someone could reasonably say they aren't necessarily attracted to someone but they're still sexy. It's almost like an energy they give off.
Thank you for explaining it like that. I was told by a hot guy at dinner a week ago I was "sexy". I had no make up on, my hair was a mess, I had been on a plane all day.. My friend said that it is my smile and energy.. Thank you.

The way the female judge acted towards the first girl was classic. She could see that she was obviously hot, and felt threatened, so she tried to bring her confidence down, but then to seem nice she said the contestants sex appeal was good

The first lady was super hot. She doesn't need to firm up, she looks healthy and good. 00s beauty standards were ridiculous. Everyone had to be skinny, but if you were too skinny, it was also a problem. Like nothing was actually perfect. It reminds me of kpop beauty standards. I'm glad I was born in the 00s and didn't have to grow up with subliminal messages to lose weight. But still, I got a ED from my own insecurities and basically the early 10s era of Tumblr and Pinterest didn't make it easier.
Girl, so relatable. Early 2010s Pinterest and Tumblr were c r a z y. Definitely gave me an ED
It's especially weird that it just seems like it was only 10-20 year period in history where women were expected to be rail thin.
Before then women in magazines looked the same as they do now (minus the gross obese fat activist stuff)
Eating disorders will happen no matter what beauty standard society has. I went out of my way to try to prevent my daughter from feeling insecure about her weight. She still ended up anorexic in her teen years like I was. A big part of it is genetic, not environmental.

@Death Omen this is just ✨👏🏻✨
@Death Omen the dumbest shit ever. Especially when one person makes fun of another for it only to try and be that later.

Butter’s dress has more cloth than other women Lorenzo preferred, yet he still immediately thought Butter was a stripper and scantily clad. Makes u wonder....
Hmmmmm
Yeah they're all definitely racist, it's the early 2000s you could tell lmao. Also the sheer audacity of their comments kinda tells you they probably don't think very highly of other races either lol.
yeah definitely
The fact that I don't need to watch more than 10 seconds of this show to know they were racist af.
And fatphobic bu that's fine /s
dont even have to wonder as soon as cody said "2003" we knew
cody and kelsey look like a couple of 70s gym teachers
This comment is too good to have only bot replies so here's a free real reply on me :)
Kelsey is the new gym teacher they hired after the one in Carrie got killed
Yes I literally laughed omg
LMAO NOW I CANT UNSEE IT
In the early 2000s being extremely thin was in. But, that comment about forming up her body a bit more is insane. I would kill to have a body like that.
Well like you said, looking underweight was celebrated as the ideal for whatever reason, I think she looks very attractive here, the thighs jiggling sheeeesh, yeah she looks good
Neon Demon vibes much
they were like "no we can't see your ribs so....keep going!!!"
I actually LOVED this show when it was on. I was obsessed with this show and Big Brother.
