Watch to the end for my..."unique"...skill. 😂 Let me know your strange skills in the comments!
You have done well, young grasshopper. Now try with chopsticks. LOL.
I used to be able to do that, but then I learned an even better skill. I just don't let them in! 😂😅😂😅😂
Great flying, and good explanations of details. I am super impressed with your video productions. The split screens and time laps are much better than any I have watched.
Thanks Carl, I really appreciate that!
Good morning Grant, great to see you again Flying. Excellent Flight today, you make it look so easy. Have a blessed day. Godspeed...
Thanks!
Awesome video as always!! Always love how you do the close up on the intruments and include ATC. Also is incredible to see your knowledge on the aircraft. Keep up the great work and fly safe out there.
If you’re ever looking for another PC-12 pilot I have NG time and flight safety course completed 😉. Love the videos!
It's always good to see you, Grant. You are always very professional. Appreciate the time you dedicate to these videos. Again, it was a nice flight. No stats, though 🤨 lol. Hope your family is doing well. Thanks again.
Hey Grant , super enjoy being able to ride along on your various flights. I have always been an aviation enthusiast. Never learned to fly myself and getting a little old to do it now. Thanks very much for your videos. Captivating!
Thanks Greg! Never too late to learn in my opinion. 🙂
I really enjoy your video’s; level of professionalism, commentary and editing of all this into an informative package. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it Rob!
Great to see you back on Grant.
The best turboprop airplane in the world, who invented it, we Swiss, I am very proud of that as a Swiss and I think it's good that someone like you is making very nice videos about it, THANK YOU for that and I wish you always a successful and Happy landing with it !!! 🍀
Thanks! You’re right to be proud of it!
She's the turboprop single SUV of the skies! Sure, France's TBM is faster, but it isn't a cabin class aircraft that can hold more people and carry more payload!
@@Nfarce And you can land and take off on gravel runways and grass runways, which a TBM can't do either!😀
Used one for an air ambulance in Tanzania
Love your video style. The aircraft is fantastic
Thanks Dan!
Grant, thanks for the ride. I'm impressed with that Pilatus, nice plane.
It’s a great plane!
Love the closeups of the instrumentation!
Thank you sir!
Great commentary and flying😊
Thanks Steve!
I really like the different camera views
It was fun watching you approach and land and my home airport. You get used to the flys down here, we have a lot of cows.
This is a good video, enjoyed watching.
Another great video Grant 🤙
Thanks!
You may have lost to the Lear...but I bet you used a lot less fuel LOL. Another great video Grant.
Very true Larry!😁
Great flight. Love the split screen view.
Thanks Garry!
Awesome video once again Grant !! At least you were entertained for a short while when you tried to catch that fly !🤣🤣
That took me a lot longer than my edits implied!🤣
@@GrantBaker 🤣🤣🤣
I love these videos. I took up flying in my 40's in '06, under Light Sport, just for the recreational experience and I flew so much as a business traveler, I felt if there were ever an in flight emergency with one of the pilots, I could help out which thankfully never happened.
I did live thru two in flight emergencies and two ground incidents, all but one minor due to the way they were handled though one nearly resulted in an off field landing because of fog and fuel starvation on our small Beech airliner.
My nerves were frayed after that, had the flight not been caught up in O'Hare traffic delays, our pilots would not have ended up in unexpected weather
I love this video because it shows what flying really is--a safe, fun profession or past time with now modern avionics so the biggest fear -- getting lost, just is not possible. In all my time in the air as a business traveler, even on the most crowded flight, connecting through the most crowded airports, I always felt a euphoria at my destination knowing "know way my grandparents could have traveled this fast in their day" and my parents did not until the mid 60's when we flew often with them between LA and SF.
I was once shopping in Phoenix when I heard what I thought was a jet overhead and it turned out to be a Pilatus, sounding exactly the same, it was on base for Goodyear airport. It's a cool aircraft--280 KTS is pretty good groundspeed, and if you get a boost from winds, you get groundspeeds like the Citation.
I've never handled anything under Light Sport that could cruise more than 115 knots or so, and in chop, I would trim for a lower airspeed than that, so doing what you do, getting your passengers to their destinations so fast, must be an awesome feeling, because I always felt awesome driving home after a 115 knot flight just working the pattern or doing some local flying.
Thanks for sharing John! Aviation has become so commonplace that many forget that it’s the magic carpet we only dreamed of until 120 years ago. And since it’s my job, it can start to feel that way to me sometimes. But when I’m able to share a flight with people that don’t get to experience it very often, I am taken back to how I felt on my first flights and am reminded how truly incredible flying is! I’m glad I’m able to do that through these videos also!
Daniel Son 🙇♂️another great video
Been into KLNS more times then I can remember. Great facility, excellent tower. The FBO is well run and Fiorentinos is a great place for lunch.
Fiorentinos is great! And I agree, I’ve always had a good experience all around at KLNS.
Pilatus ❤
Ah Daniel son
Flash Grant with his fast hands to catch the fly.
Nice production, esp. the 4-way split on T/O and landing. Fine audio, kids' background voices cute, graphics of local WX was helpful and unique, as was your special skill.
I'll catch you again!
PS Fine aircraft.
Thank you!
Thank you
Nice fly catch mate! I was conducting skydive ops years ago in a Pilatus Porter. Like your flight, I had a fly in the cockpit. Once we got to Flight Levels he was sitting on the glare shield, at max take off power, but the air was too thin for him to fly up there. I was laughing so hard! If he had an expression on his face, I'm sure it would've been one of total confusion! Hehe.
🤣That’s awesome! How did you like those beta descents?
@@GrantBaker Totally nuts. 70deg nose down @ 105kts, hanging in the harness. Crazy. But it would slip out of beta at 120kts, and the Vne was 149kts, so you had to be on the ball in that situation to get the nose up fast. The best feeling as a Porter pilot for me was learning to land in full beta, from top of decent at FL140 all the way down to the runway in 90secs. We would beat the skydivers down to the ground, which I think is unique in skydiving. Full beta landings are really scary at first, but when you learn the beta flight envelope, and speed bleed rates in the beta flare, it was really a special experience as a pilot. I was blessed to be able to fly that amazing machine. But, I always dreamed about flying the PC-12, especially during long ferry flights! So thanks for sharing your experiences mate. Greatly appreciated. I'm living vicariously through your videos! LOL!!
Oh man, that sounds like quite the experience! It’s hard to imagine what flying a beta descent AND landing would feel like. That roundout and flare must be pretty abrupt.
@@GrantBaker Yeah mate. It happens fast. You enter the flare at around 100kts, and you have a pretty short window to get the wheels down, but it is surprisingly easy, thanks to those wizards at Pilatus. They really created something special with the Porter. And they only just stopped making them, after 60+ years of production. Simply amazing! Looking forward to your next video mate. Thanks for sharing your flying experiences! Keep up the great work!! :)
Thanks Tim! Maybe one day I’ll have the opportunity to fly a Porter.
"Flying To Amish Paradise" That made me giggle.
😄
Awesome footage!.. Thanks for the shotgun ride.. 😀
Thanks for sharing your flight with us. Can you add your flight checklist as you are doing it ( for entertainment purpose only) . Thanks in advance
Goshen, Indiana, wow! I grew up living in Elkhart County and Marshall County, sure is nice to be able to see my neck of the woods from the air. I seriously envy the ability to see the area that way.
The flight school on the field here at Goshen offers discovery flights. You’ll get to see the area from the air in person AND actually do most of the flying! Careful though, you might end up wanting to get your license. 😉
@@GrantBaker That's amazing! I had no idea Goshen offered such affordable discovery flights!
Grant, great video as always! Quick question, is it just your preference to pick up IFR before you take off? In the king air’s out of non towered airports we normally just pick it up in the air. Keep up the awesome work!
Yeah that’s my preference here at GSH since it’s so quick. It’s usually only one or two extra minutes. This was an exception to the norm.
Welcome back to Amish Country Grant. Impressed that you pronounce "Lancaster" as if you were a local here. Was that a Goshen fly or an Amish fly? Another great video and descriptive flight.
Thanks! That was a Goshen fly, although to be fair it still could’ve been an Amish one. 😁 The next county to our east is one of the biggest Amish communities in the US alongside the Lancaster area and Holmes county Ohio.
Nice video. I fly out of Kokomo, Indiana.. OKK.
We’re practically neighbors!👋
I was like watching your videos you're a great pilot you should try for the airlines
It’s boring like hell. No comparison to pilatus
I’m ready and make sure you eat at Good and Plenty in Lancaster Grant
Heads up - Good & Plenty restaurant has been closed for a year now. A nice change would be to fly into Smoketown Airport (S37) Pilatus friendly but no jet fuel. :)
I used to live about one mile northwest of the Goshen Airport. Has that area ever changed! Great video!
Thanks!
Don’t forget to visit Morristown NJ sometime soon (KMMU)
I haven’t been to MMU, but I have been to CDW. We don’t get to the NY area very often.
My home airport!
Enjoyed the flight. Thanks. You flew near my home prior to Harrisburg (near Carlisle) but too many clouds to see it. 😀
I have the PC12 in Microsoft Flight Simulator but its not the NG version - I may still give it a flight since you inspired me.
Cool!
Someone is releasing another version of the PC-12 (Not sure if its NG or NGX) for MSFS later this year, forgive me I forget the name of the company but I'm sure Microsoft will likely advertise it. Believe it is being approved by Pilatus themselves! :O
@@2004JETTA You are correct. Many are waiting for it (including myself) but its still months away.
Thank you for the great video!
While you were waiting for IFR release, what happens if it's going to be to long and those boys want to fly?
They just wait. This was an unusually long wait. Usually clearance has my release when I call them saying I’m #1 at the runway and ready for departure. As far as I know, it would be legal for them to taxi around through the grass like I was joking about, but I’ve never seen it done.
weird al approves of this title 😁
Lol nice fly catch
I’ll have to work up to using chopsticks. 🤣
I caught your Pc-12 at Santa Monica airport today
Must’ve been it’s twin! I was in Nashville in another plane and it was at home in the hangar. There is another PC12 here in Indiana that I fly sometimes that has the exact same paint, maybe there’s more.
Hey, LNS, my 'home base' ( even though I don't fly :P ) . Glad you pronounce Lancaster right. Unlike the approach controller, who I assume lives in the area and should know better :)
I blame it on my Mennonite background. 😁
Hi, love your videos. Following you for a while. My name is Cristiano and I’m from Brazil and moved to California recently. I’ve been flying a Pilatus PC-12NG for a while back in Brazil. Would love to meet you some day. Blessings.
Let me know via email or Instagram if you’re ever in northern Indiana!
Ok, perfect
Thanks
There is a place you might want to go is Sight and Sound
I was ready for some "Weird Al" Yankovic
Missed opportunity there for sure!😁
A little Dre at the end, eh? 🤣
Your videos make miss flying...however, at this stage of life (retired), I don't want to run the risk of failing a Special Issuance medical for a 2nd class...'tis what it 'tis...
Thanks for sharing, sir 👍🤘
You know it! Would flying under basic med be a possibility for you?
I'm already cerified under BasicMed and find the limitations restrictive. I'm at KAPA and prefer to be higher than 18000 when going west over the rocks. 😂
Just go east instead of west!😜
👋👏👍
Which avionics suite is that? G5000? it is beautiful!
It’s the Honeywell Primus Apex
@@GrantBaker awesome stuff!
This is my home airport! Let me know when you’re back in time - would love to buy you some lunch!
Awesome! Are you training at Aero-Tech?
Did my discovery/first lesson at ATP in March, training starts there in the fall!
Nice, have fun and good luck!
23:00 getting bored in the flight levels 😆
Sometimes there’s just not much going on during cruise!😂
So are you changing your call sign to “Fly Catcher”?
Gonna get a sticker to put under my window: Capt. Fly Catcher
🤣
sweet how often are you at Lancaster? I'm normally around Brandywine or Chester county. What's your flying history? what did you do to get to where you are?
I was there several times last summer/fall. I would guess we will be back again sometime! I shared my aviation background in this video: ua-cam.com/video/eGVfIcKCuDE/v-deo.html
I thought that start was a bit lazy until the secondaries opened up?
Sometimes it does seem that way. It’s always been well within limits so haven’t worried about it at all. Cold oil temp can cause it, but that wasn’t the case on this flight. I’m not sure what causes it when it isn’t cold.
What do you use as a garnish on your flies?
A little salt and pepper, sauté in olive oil. 🤪
I have a question. How do people get to fly many different planes. Do they rent them for the video? In my country we have so called flight clubs but they always have just light aircrafts like cessna 172. I have seen multiple videos on youtube where people try out light jets and other aircraft. Someone please explain
I’d like to know also…anybody with a jet or warbird want to give me a flight?😁
If you can Catch a Fly in your hand, No Need for Flight safety this Year! all you will have to do is send that Slow Motion video to your Insurance company :)
I’m sure our premiums will be at a record low next year!😂
The 2 horizons don't who the same value??!! (the standby and the other??)
They look like the same attitudes to me and I don’t recall noticing anything funny in the airplane during the flight. What part of the video do they look different to you?
All you need is chopsticks Grant.
Hey Grant! I’ve been flying a 206 with a g1000 for aerial survey and around 1000 hours now. Wondering how you transitioned into corporate life in a PC-12? Always wanted to fly turboprops.
Wouldn’t happen to be out of St Louis or RHV would it? I was flying aerial survey in 206s out of OJC when I got the job flying for this company. They started in a Saratoga, then moved to a C421, and now the PC-12. I also shared about my flying background in this video: ua-cam.com/video/eGVfIcKCuDE/v-deo.html
@@GrantBaker Nope out of GSO. I do have friends at that St Louis based company though. Well cool I’ll check it out, thanks!
Cool! The planes I flew are at St Louis now.
@grant baker lol isn't amish paradise SRQ?
🤣 absolutely! The family that owns Der Dutchman is from my area here in Indiana. Gotta admit it felt a bit strange seeing all the same Amish stuff around there the first time I was at SRQ.
Suspect you might be from PA. You didn’t say Lan caster like so many.
Not from there, but I grew up Mennonite and went to a Mennonite college. That’s the only way I can remember hearing it!
Are you based in Goshen??
Yessir!
Stupid question from a non pilot. When you file a flight plan I’m guessing it has your call sign on it, so when you call to request ifr flight they can see it?
Yep, sure does! It has everything about the flight: what type of flight (IFR or VFR), how much fuel we have in hours and minutes, people onboard, what altitude we want, what route we want…it even has spots for survival equipment information.
The doctor killer........... + patient + nurses ....... !
I wouldn’t call the airplane a doctor killer based off one accident. We don’t know enough about that accident yet to determine if it was a problem with the airplane, but one thing we do know is that statistics show that the PC12 is the safest single-engine airplane ever built.
3 resent incidents .... single pilot ops in imc ......it appears the auto-pilot fairly easily jumps out.....
Also appears in fairness to pc12 ops .... health insurance companies are happy to play russian roulette ....SINGLE PILOT MED OPS SHOULD BE BANNED.
I haven’t experienced that issue personally but I have heard of it. There’s only 6 PC-12 incidents+accidents in the NTSB docket in the last 10 years. Of those, 2 with fatalities, 2 minor injuries, 2 no injuries. 28 total NTSB records since 2001. While we should always strive for zero accidents, I’d still say that’s a great record and far, far from warranting labeling the airplane a killer. For comparison, 30 people are killed by lightning every year. Cows kill about 20 people every year.
I'm disappointed that this video didn't have the intro song "Amish Paradise" by Weird Al Yankovic lol
That would’ve been perfect!😂
Nice split screen with 4 views
180 knots is pretty slow.
Because of lower air density at higher altitudes, indicated airspeed (the 180kts on the airspeed tape) is slower than the speed you’re actually moving through the air. On this flight, 183knots indicated was 266knots true airspeed.
Soundtrack instantly turned me off
Sellin' quilts at discount price, living in an Amish paradise...
You don’t use the facility name when you call on the radio. Sloppy! It took 5 minutes to see that. What else are you not doing.
I’m definitely not perfect and make mistakes just like everybody else. If you’re referring to the cruise timelapse though, that is ATC’s audio only.
You should worry more about flying the plane than performing for UA-cam!! That was a pretty rookie mistake calling tower on the wrong frequency!!
