In my mind the PC12 is definitely one of the most visually interesting aircraft I see these days and one of the most interesting when you hear them when they do their startup. When I'm driving with someone in my vehicle people always ask what type of aircraft that is because of it's distinctive look.
That's a very instructive video, but not just instructive. It's a very efficient post-production, with many views, these of the instruments, helping us to follow your explanations. What a gorgeous cloudy sky ! Great moment a little bit as your passenger. Hearing and watching you in the pilot seat is a pleasure. Thank you for sharing your flight. Salute from France.
Also, glad you caught runway 35 is a right pattern, I canceled IFR once upon a day and completely blew it…flew a left-hand pattern by not checking ahead of time.
Absolutely awesome video! The montage, the views, and seeing what was displayed on the PFD were all really enjoyable to watch. The entire trip was a super informative look into what flying the PC-12 is like. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the excellent video on your flight. I’m a former Malibu owner and just flew into Marco a couple weeks ago in a twin Comanche. Welcome to sunny Florida.
Grant thank you for your video!! You did a great job once again on capturing the highlights of your flight. I really like the state subtitles as you flew fast forward over them! Again great explanation on the cockpit actions. Oh and lastly I did not feel a bump on your landing! 😂 Thank you again and keep those awesome videos coming please!
It's been a while since you shared a video on yt. Thank you for sharing good memories once again. (Apologies if I made any mistakes my English is not strong).
I learned to fly at a little airport KMRN here in the foothills of western NC... We had winds like that here all the time! Especially after a front went through!! They'd cross the mountains then swirl & circle around these hills which caused me all kinds of problems!!! I would've gladly accepted your landing as GREAT!!! 🙂 Thank you for taking us land lubbers along for the ride!!! Safe travels sir 🙂
The development you saw was Babcock Ranch it’s a solar powered community utility electric is only a backup. It’s a pretty amazing community to visit if you ever get the chance
I fly out of MWO (Just N of Cincy) to S Florida all the time as well and usually get direct but always plan on routing from ATL handoff to Jaxs app. Awesome video badass Plane!!
Nice flight. Weird landings happen. Thanks for bringing us along. I hope to be able to afford this plane one day. I have a Piper right now. I need to figure out how to increase my income to get to your level.
Ave Maria is a town in Florida that was built from scratch by the founder of Domino's Pizza, Thomas Monaghan. The town officially opened in 2007, and the first person moved in on June 30 of that year
Enjoyed the video, was a bit confused by the Pax in the right seat mid-flight. Seems like the risk factor would be high making that transition in flight.
I don’t do much flight sim, but I’ve heard a lot of talk about the SimWorks PC12. The legacy is out already. I’ll have to try out their NG when they get it done!
Even though I am a pilot, I can’t keep up with you when you talk about the different flight data on the Garmin screen. It’s intuitive to you because you fly that cool stuff. Same for other systems in the plane. Show us. Please slow down a bit and point to what you are referring to, please. Vertical speeds, cabin pressure, intercepting the darned GS and Localizer, auto pilot for sure etc. Also, for us piston pilots, would you explain in more detail about ITT, NT, Hung start, Hot star, and the other things you as the pilot are watching and what it really means. Not a turbine course because we know how they work, but not how you operate them. I’ve been flying since 1997 and I stay current and study everything aviation. But I still get SO much from winners like you when you go back to basics and explain the most basic aspects of aviation. Thank you for what you do for us and I hope that wasn’t a jackass. Bo Brewer
@bobrewer202 nope I didn’t think you were rude! I do try to point some of that stuff out in my editing by adding the radar ping circles. Some of those things are happening at critical phases of flight and it wouldn’t be wise to distract myself with an explanation. Next time I video, I’ll try to remember to discuss cabin pressure a bit. That’s not something you can really see from any of the GoPros, and I don’t think I’ve talked about that in any of my other videos.
@@GrantBaker Makes perfect sense. That’s why we cut off our passengers on the intercom. Thank you for your generosity and for being open to feedback. Waiting for your next good 0ne!
Very nice video. I am learning about airplanes and enjoyed this. I have one question. How come the co-pilot only showed up at end of flight? I have never seen that before.
I wanna know how they were able to see that plane, on the tarmac, about to take off, was a 'Sky Hawk', from like miles away...dude must have some bionic eye sight...wow.@20:14
Haha they don’t call me eagle eyes for nothing!😜 The cut right before that transmission is a bit misleading I suppose, but you can tell by the angle I’m looking out the plane at him that we are just about abeam the end of the runway so he was less than a mile from us at that point.
LOVE Marco Island. Heading down there the third week of May. Always wondered what the airport looked like. Really enjoyed this flight. What was your flight time?
I have learned a lot watching your videos. I took some but ran out of money. So watch youtube tutorials and guys like you. My old boss was a dentist and real estate developer and has 2002 pc12, but had to get rid of it in 2008 when economy tanked. Would you do a video on how the radios work. So keep them, thanks alot
It was good! Low IFR when we landed with storms just to the south, so a missed would have been a bit interesting. We broke out at 100’ above minimums. Wish I’d have had the cameras running, it would have been an interesting video!
The PC12 can operate out of much shorter runways than the Honda jet, and can operate off of unimproved runways. It can haul more weight and passengers, and has more range. It is more flexible with cabin layout and has the pallet-sized cargo door for easily loading cargo. The PC12 is extremely capable and one of the most versatile production aircraft available. The Honda jet can fly faster (422ktas vs 180ktas) and higher (FL430 vs FL300).
Do you take a bike with you on the plane or is it a rental? There is a great trail in three rivers mi at meyer broadway park if you ever find yourself driving a little north. Its worth the trip.
@@susanmitrano1007 I’m not sure. I do know that his ADSB reported autopilot/flight director modes. It was reporting AP engaged and then for some reason it stopped reporting engaged. Immediately after that, the airplane started to turn right and then quickly went out of control.
Robert, we aren’t a charter operator so I can’t take you in our plane. If you find a PC-12NG to dry lease, I could be your pilot depending on schedule. Shoot me an email at pilatusgrant@gmail.com if you’re interested in pursuing that.
Nope, it’s not really similar to anything in your 182. It’s a door that opens to allow fod (mainly ice and birds, but could also be small stones and other debris from an unimproved runway) that gets in the intake to exit before entering the engine. On a PT6, the air goes in the front and then makes a u-turn to go back forward through the engine and exits at the front. The intake is shaped in a way so that when the inertial separator door is open, FOD will go out the door instead of making the turn to go into the engine. Some air is also lost in the process, so at altitude you do lose some power with it open. And that’s also why closing it during climb reduces the ITT; more air is flowing through the engine.
A Pilot should NEVER fly IMC if they don’t know how to fly the entire flight by hand including ALL challenges that may lie ahead, if you don’t… well, DON’T. I find it disturbing that this even needs to be discussed or questioned! These type accidents have increased in recent years and it’s simply unacceptable because it shows a disturbing trend!
I love the time lapse, so we get to still see visuals for the entire flight. Great choice there.
Thanks!
Liked the state to state montage. Keep em coming. Great flight.
I love the weather readout you did for us to read alongside the callout. Great video!

How does the five blade prop performance compare to the four blades
The main differences are that the 5-blade has better takeoff and climb performance.
so Grant , what are the advantages of flying a pc12 verses ,say a honda jet ??
The PC12 can operate out of much shorter runways than the Honda jet, and can operate off of unimproved runways. It can haul more weight and passengers, and has more range.
