This is amazing! Although I have heard of “lifting the soft palate”, I was never sure on how to put this into practice. This video alone has helped me to achieve this. I feel that the sound and quality of my higher notes has just improved by a million. Thank you, Victoria, for your guidance! 😇
Brava Victoria!! now I get it. your explanation and exercises have already made a difference. I can hear the difference among the different levels without recording myself. I can't wait to record it to really hear the difference. People talked about that yawn but have never quite communicated it in a way that I can actually practice it. Thank you.
Your explanation of style differences and the different sounds desired goes a long way to clearing up confusion over the variations in singing technique teachings available. I also like your guidance in finding how much is too much in moving the soft palate - and pretty much everything else, for that matter. I find your videos very interesting and helpful. Best wishes.
This has been one of the most helpful voice videos I have ever watched, and I am a former opera, singer and never had any of this kind of instruction. Thank you very.
I have very good soft pallet control and I can go really high but I am scared to even attempt it when I feel it move to that position. I believe the soft pallet also regulates air flow into certain cavities as well. I feel it right now even when I use my inner voice when I type. I can really feel my face muscles slightly move to when I do it. I believe this is why everyone says relax why you sing cause if you don't you can't get the soft pallet to coordinate correctly.
Hey Victoria, I wanted to know if you have a online course on everything you teach on your channel. I’m looking to further my singing and take it to the next level. Even online classes too would be great!
Hello Ma'am, this is Ryan, and I'm from Phillipines(Asia). I am very thankful to watch your videos, it helps me a lot to improve my singing voice.. Thank you so much ! I hope, soon we'll meet in person..
3:28 happened to me, i try to push i much as i can on the masked, i think that not gonna hurt my throat, I belt that like crazy and I can't sing for a couple of day because of throat hurted
It's good that you recognize what not to do! This is part of your progress! See my video on Pushing and also my playlist on Throat Tension. Also my vid onn belting!
The speaking AH HA was the first explanation and excerise where I actually felt and heard it. I was really starting to doubt myself after watching different videos, thinking "Welp, mine just doesn't raise. Thats my life now!"
Dear Victoria, I discovered your videos a few months ago and they help me a lot. Thank you for your advices and all this beautiful work! May I ask you if you have some advices or videos concerning "how to avoid singing out of tune"?. Sometimes, it seems to me that I am out of tune or losing the melody. I try to be my "own teacher" (as you said) and to invent some exercices to avoid this problem but I'd like to have your wisdom on this point. THank you again!, it is always a pleasure to watch your videos.I learn a lot thanks to you.
I recommend getting a pitch monitor app. There are lots of free ones. If you sing flat, here is my video: Fix Flat Singing Fast! - QUICK FIXES AND SOLUTIONS ua-cam.com/video/Eas8C32SJZY/v-deo.html
Are you not confusing soft palate position and larynx position ? The yawny opera voice is mostly produced by lowering the larynx right ? The soft palate mostly has to do with how nasal the sound is because it blocks or opens the way to the nasal cavity ...
No, I am not confusing the soft palate position and larynx. They can work independently from each other. If you want to know about opera voice, see my video on Classical vs Pop.
Am not sure if am doing the exercise correctly, but I sound nasal when opening the soft palate as in start of yawn. But at least I got aware of it now. Coz maybe, sometimes in trying not to lose my chest voice, I am unconsciuosly opening my soft palate too much and sounds like Yogi bear as you had pointed out. Thanks for this lesson.
Keep experimenting with the different levels of the soft palate. Lifting the palate reduces or eliminates nasality. Test whether you are truly nasal by pinching your nostrils in the middle of a note. Some people think they are nasal when they really are not.
@@Victoria-Victorious Will do. I've recorded my voice several times too, and try to analyze myself. Just as you said, things are kind of easier to correct or test different approach.
Sorry, I cannot tell without seeing and hearing you, but if your singing is nasal, yes, arching the soft palate will help. See my video on nasality vs nasal resonance.
And do I need to always lower my tongue while I am lifting up soft palate? If so,I have some problem to pronounce the consonants and vowels when singing because of the lowering of the tongue. Please solve my problem
@@Victoria-Victorious Actually, it's getting better each day, I have visited the doctor, took medicines and have a good diet plan especially for this acid reflux, and thankfully, it's working really well. My voice is feeling a lot more better each day.

I'm getting a stuffy nose and swollen nasal cavity after head voice singing. Will palate raising help?
Sorry, I cannot tell without seeing and hearing you, but if your singing is nasal, yes, arching the soft palate will help. See my video on nasality vs nasal resonance.
Should I lift the soft palate while singing low notes and chest voice?
Depends what kind of sound you want, as I say in the video. Generally, I say yes, but just the right degree of arch for the sound you want.
@@Victoria-Victorious thank you 😍

awesome video maam.
love from nepal :)
So nice of you! Hope to see you here again soon!
Isn’t this the sound of the larynx lowering rather than the soft palate lifting?
I demonstrated both soft palate lifting and larynx lowering as a result as I got further into the yawn.
@@Victoria-Victorious Ah thanks. I love you and your channel btw!
thanks, now I sound like Gandalf
I have acid reflux and it's holding me back. What do I do?
I cannot give you specific advice on that. There is a lot online that might help. I would discuss it with your dr.

You're sounding like Arni
Why am I yawning while watching the video?
This is a normal reflex in the beginning. It goes away with practice. Make sure you are not over-arching the soft palate.
