      I wish she would be my teacher!!! I wouldn't need to be reminded of homework, I'd be way to terrified to not practice properly 😂 I'm learning SLS/IVA now and my voice looses it's soul/jazz sound. Well not loosing it, but I feel like it was unique and now it gets pressed into this box. I wish my vocal coach would be more like her! I'm seriously thinking about switching to someone who is more open.

    Victoria, I have been actively watching your videos. I watch one or two every day, along with some physical therapy videos I am doing for my jaw. I want to share that you are helping me with my chronic depression. My mom committed suicide when I was a young child, and since, there have been very few women who inspire me to become a better person. However, your direct nature, loving attitude, and relentless determination make me feel like I can be who I need to be. I am so happy I found your channel, and I work on my singing voice every day. I also want to share that I typed larynx singing into UA-cam, and your video was one of the first hits. Good job on the algorithm! Lastly, I am originally from the east coast, and I recognize your accent and tone of voice. That could be another reason I admire you so much. I appreciate your videos and look forward to them every morning.

    Victoria! You have single handedly revived my interest in learning to sing. I gave up as a teenager when family wasn’t being encouraging, learned to play the clarinet instead. A video of yours came up when I was searching for a vocal warm up track to do before a speech a while ago and I can’t stop watching. Every video of yours is straight to the point and I love your humour. They make me want to sing and to experiment with my voice.
    Since finding your channel I’ve started to sing again. Even sang solo at karaoke! I used to intentionally put on a silly voice when I sang around others because I didn’t want them to hear what my singing actually sounded like. I don’t do that anymore. All because I stumbled upon a video of yours. ❤
    Currently searching for a voice teacher in my area. Hopefully one day I have a singing voice I can be proud of.

      Sounds like my story. I wanted to sing from the time that I could have memory. Took up clarinet in middle school , then self taught beginner guitar . I finally took a singing class in college but only learned vocal warm ups and to use primarily head voice. Love Victoria’s approach.

    Hi Victoria! I have felt self conicous for YEARS because I've felt like I haven't had any idea what my "natural" voice was. I speak with a pretty high tone / larynx position and that translates to my singing also. because of this I've had people tell me my voice sounds great or more classically trained professionals tell me my larynx is too high and to basically shove it down. I guess my question is, how do I know what position is not to far down or to high up if my whole life I've used a high larynx? any feedback to help me make sense of this would just be amazing.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  2 роки тому

      Much of this depends on the style you are singing and what kind of sound you want. Watch my other video on the larynx. You want a stable larynx. You may need a one-on-one assessment.

    Reading through your advice for other videos I have others to watch to learn more about this crazy issue which I think is my larynx jumping randomly. My speech therapist can't tell if it's the muscles causing the larynx to jump or the larynx causing the muscles to jump, but something has been going on in there for a very long time. With the single finger placement I noticed mine doesn't move too much, but when it does it seems to spasm on the left side and sometimes continues when I'm not making a sound. Thanks for all of your help.

    When I place a gentle pressure on the larynx my voice enhances tremendously!! But I can't seem to control the positioning of the larynx when I remove the pressure! How can I prevent the larynx from jumping way high when singing high notes?

    Hi, thank you for the video, I was wondering, is there risk of injuring our vocal chords if we use the improper position for a certain style?I've been singing a song called How to Save a Life by The Fray (though it is in a different key signature because it gets a bit too high for me to be comfortable in the original) and I really want to start learning how to be safer with my voice. I have completely learned on my own for my whole life just through what makes it sound and feel good. I get a good sound and I don't feel a lot of tension most of the time, just a little bit every now and then for particularly straining notes. Do you have any advice for me? And thank you for the video, you were very enthusiastic, it was fun! 😊❤

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 роки тому +1

      Any kind of vocal strain is not good, so you are smart to lower the key to fit your voice. I have tons of videos on how to avoid strain and also how to sing better high notes. Here is my playlist page where you can find videos divided by topics: ua-cam.com/users/vrsingplaylists

    Finally a clear video about larynx. Some say it should be high others say it should be low but now it is clear to me. And it does sound logical. I also do voice acting and now i know what is going on with my larynx. Do you have a video about resonances and how to asure that you don’t pull the sound to the back of your mouth. So that the note stays at the front of the mouth and in the nouse etc. Or is that a myth too? And do you give singing lessons?

    • @Victoria-Victorious

    To have a less childish conversational voice, is it harmful to the larynx to always keep it lower in everyday conversations? Would it strain the larynx in anyway? Will over time the yawning muscles become stronger and naturally keep the larynx in a lowered position in a healthy way?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  2 роки тому

      I would discuss this with a speech pathologist. I can only advise about singing.

  • @lesterxu7760
    @lesterxu7760 4 роки тому

    When you say float up, approximately how high can it go? For instance when I swallow, the larynx goes very high. When I sing in the upper register, the larynx doesn't go as high as it does when swallowing, but it "floats up" slowly - sometimes higher when the note gets higher.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  4 роки тому +2

      We never want the swallowing muscles to be involved when we singing. That is "the squeeze" and will lead to problems. The larynx may float *slightly* higher at the top of the range in classical and will float a bit higher than that if belting, as typically heard in pop. No matter what style, float is an important word because we never want the larynx to jump up, be pushed down or squeeze.

    I'm suffering with Major Throat Tension ever since I started puberty and my voice started changing I've been trying to find the problem but still havent gotten out of it for at least nearly 2 years, I noticed that everytime I make a sound in the middle pitch of my voice to high it my adams apple shoots all the way up to the same level as when you swallow, I can't seem to control it though it just raises by itself if I start singing this neck tension is annoying me so bad, I even bought a 300.00 vocal course but they aren't even willing to answer my questions properly. 😢

    Hi Victoria, why do I think it only sounds like singing when I use a lower position? It sounds like talking to me in the neutral position. 🥴. I rather use neutral as it's more relaxing way to sing to be honest.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 роки тому +1

      I cannot tell without seeing and hearing you. The lower larynx produces a darker, fuller sound, whereas the neutral position is a more natural, speech-like tone, as heard in pop music. It all depends on what sound you want. Keep working on ease.

      No, they are separate things. You can sing in chest or head with different levels of the larynx.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  2 роки тому

      I think you misunderstand. You don't see it; you only hear it. The level of the larynx is the choice of the singer, depending on what kind of sound he/she wants. It is not visible to the audience.
