The SSPX is an important guardian of the Faith without whose intervention would be no traditional RC Church today. Regardless of what this means moving forward, it is an incontrovertible fact.
Such an important fact that bears repeating: "No one can reach, come to, be with God except by goring through the Lord Jesus Christ." All glory and praise belongs always only to Our Lord.
The SSPX is entirely catholic and recognize the authority (for legitimate purposes) of the Pope. Then, the Church is obliged (because of canon 265) to grant an incardination to the SSPX. If it does not, it is not SSPX fault. The problem is and will remain so until the crisis is over, the apostasy in the Church.
The SSPX is, unwittingly or not, at the heart of the crisis , because it teaches that people can be saved who are not incorporated into the Mystical Body of Christ by regeneration through reception of the Sacrament of Baptism and profession of the integral Catholic Faith, who profess and practice false religions till the day they die. I’m very glad to hear this because one thing nearly everyone has lost sight of is the fact that it’s not just the mass that was drastically changed in Vatican II. Nearly everything that makes us Catholic was stripped away. Whatever was left was changed to the point of near meaninglessness. For most Catholics, the only truly Catholic elements remaining are Our Lord’s Real Presence in the Eucharist, the Crucifix, Our Lady’s rosary, a few statues and icons, and the tattered remnants of a handful of prayers and practices, all of which are quickly disappearing from NO churches. If not for the efforts of the SSPX, there would be nothing preventing the Catholic Church from being destroyed by its own hierarchy. It must, therefore, be that God intends the SSPX to exist and grow. How could it be otherwise? Modernism is claiming countless souls; however, through the efforts of the SSPX, a few may be saved. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
Several years ago Fr. Ramon Angles published a study (which might still be available from the SSPX website) wherein he investigates the SSPX in relation to Canon Law and those Sacraments ordinarily requiring "jurisdiction." He concludes: If the SSPX is within the Church, its Marriages and Confessions are valid. If the SSPX is not within the Church, its Marriages and Confessions are valid.

There's tragic irony in the suppression of the Mass of the Ages simultaneous with the encouragement for those outside the Church to remain in their error because of so-called religious liberty.
For me, it's very hard not to sympathize with the late Archbishop Lefebvre and what he did in forming the society of St. Pius X. The fact that Pope Francis gave the society faculties to hear confessions and witness marriages seems to indicate that a more regular canonical status isn't far off in the future for the Society.

The parallel is possibly a little more subtle than the image of a father becoming abusive towards his own family, and thereby justifying actions by the son to ignore the father, and possibly kick him out of the family home. I imagine a family that has for generations worked as millers, passing the milling traditional down from father to son for over a thousand years. Then one year the present miller announces that he’s going to step back from milling, and instead of passing ownership to his son, he lets his windmill to a third party, and lives off the rental income. The son, though disgruntled, accepts the decision and in time comes to enjoy the fruits of the rental income. In the meantime, the operator of the windmill notices that imported Chinese flour is cheaper than the stuff he turns out. The son’s son, in turn, decides that the rental income could be improved by outright selling the mill and investing the proceeds in a tracker fund. And, at the same time, the new owner-operator of the windmill works out that its more profitable to sell rebranded imported Chinese flour and re-open the windmill as a ‘working museum’, complete with rides for the kids plus a gift shop. Everybody is raking it in (except perhaps some Chinese factory worker), and every night there is a boozy party, and everybody stays in bed until midday the following day. Then one day the son’s son’s son begins to wonder what it’s all about, especially as his father has the world’s worst hangover and he’s heard on the news that some people have gotten sick from consuming adulterated flour sold at the local theme park. So he looks into his family’s past to see where things went wrong. He sees that his ancestors lived nobly as millers, but made a series of well-intentioned decisions that seemed to make sense at the time. Regardless of those good intentions, the son’s son’s son knows that what has resulted is evil and he is determined to get back to producing good flour that doesn’t make you ill. He knows that the tradition consists of more than mere obedience to his father, and that any authority he shall have over his own son shall come about only through passing down the tradition to him, and not simply by shouting ‘Do as your told. I’m your father, for Chrissakes!’
It is not a question of justifying what it does, because certainly it has the right and the sacred duty to celebrate the Mass of Immemorial Tradition, but of justifying what it believes and teaches and imposes on salvation. Dear Michael, One SSPX priest in Africa explained the following to his faithful: "A general reminder that the Latin class will begin [for the parish]... It is hoped that by acquiring an elementary knowledge of the language of our Mother the Church you will be able to appreciate more profoundly the liturgy and the prayers of the Mass. It is one of the most fundamental and basic skills that every Catholic should have, or in the words of Cicero: "non enim tam praeclarum est scire Latine quam turpe nescire" (It is not so praiseworthy to know Latin, as rather it is a shame not to know it) [Brutus, 37.140]... Many of our students have noted that the Latin language is not only valuable for knowing the liturgy but especially for developing a clarity of thought and for mastering one's own native language... Many persons have asked for lessons of French which is important for the life of Tradition as many publications are in this language and the Archbishop himself gave many conferences in this language. Fr. ________ would be happy to offer these lessons, but as these are not as necessary for salvation as the Latin language they will be offered on an individual basis and for a fee. Those desiring should address themselves to Father directly." I think Father was being a little tongue in cheek by saying Latin was "necessary for salvation". He later ran a French camp as well, and ongoing lessons open to the whole parish. His energy and zeal are edifying to me! I think Latin is a joy and a great help to living the liturgical life for an ordinary Catholic if he has the time, and capacity and can find a good teacher / method. I would suggest Ossa Latinitatis Sola by Fr. Reginald Foster if you intend to study on your own. It's presentation is not exactly classic, but I think it is a great "way in" for self-study. On the other hand, don't feel an undue pressure as if you were a "bad Catholic" for not learning Latin. Life is hard enough as it is... But if you have time, leisure and inclination, go for it! A blog posted recently criticizing the SSPX cites the Council of Trent saying this: "If anyone saith that bishops…who have neither been rightly ordained, nor sent by ecclesiastical and canonical power, but come from elsewhere, are lawful ministers of the word and of the sacraments; let him be anathema.” It seems easy to say "Well if the fathers of Trent could see the Church now they would have made qualification." So that raises in my mind another question, does Our Lord have intentions for a dogmatic definition beyond what a Council may understand itself to be saying? I don't want to go down the road of "that was then, this is now, we have to read Trent in its context." I would refute by saying a face value reading and application would exclude danger of death confessions by excised priests, which it doesn't. So the blog's argument either proves too much or Trent should in fact be taken with the relevant caveat of epikeya discussed here
What is the Society’s opinion of the bishops consecrated by Bishop Williamson? Rome has never questioned the validity of the original four, but the further away one gets the murkier things seem to me. Equally with all those Thuc bishops.
I don't know on what grounds anyone would contest the validity of ordination of the Bishops consecrated by Bishop Williamson. The SSPX recognizes their valid Episcopal consecration. The "necessity" that would justify their consecration, i.e. that the SSPX has essentially defected from the line of Archbishop Lefebvre, of course is precisely the point of divergence. As regards the Thuc line, Fr. Peter Scott, SSPX had this to say: "I do not believe that there is a strong reason to doubt the validity of the episcopal consecrations performed by the exiled Vietnamese Archbishop Ngo Dinh Thuc. However, there are several lesser reasons, that might be considered sufficient to establish some kind of positive doubt in the matter. These include the absence of correct witnesses during the original ceremony of consecration, which was done in private, and in the middle of the night. Also relevant is Thuc’s confused mental state, as evidenced by his public concelebration of the New Mass with the local Novus Ordo bishop of the diocese of Toulon, just one month before these consecrations in 1981. Also, the lack of conviction can be seen in the fact that twice he consecrated bishops illicitly and twice he requested absolution from the canonical punishment of excommunication. These frequent changes indicate that he was a man who, to say the least, lacked conviction about what he was doing. This is further confirmed by his failure to join the Coetus internationalis patrum, the traditional group of bishops at Vatican II, and by a certain liberal tendency that he showed during the Council, speaking out against discrimination directed towards women and in favor of ecumenism. Consequently, although the logical thing would be to presume that he did have the intention of confecting the sacrament of Holy Orders, the absence of co-consecrators, and of a clear purpose, does open the door to some astonishment and doubt. Any doubt concerning the first bishops that he consecrated would clearly be passed on to any other bishops and priests ordained as a consequence."
@@SSPX ‘Defected from +Lefevbre’ introduces precisely the problem of ‘Traditionalist Protestantism’. There is no doubt in my mind that the SSPX is a part of and defends the Roman Catholic Church. But then a bishop decides they don’t defend it well enough and starts his own branch, and as this process of splitting off continues, the original Catholic identity of the groups becomes more and more attenuated, and their bishops, valid or not, irrelevant to the life of the Church. If things get bad enough in my diocese I would have no scruple whatever about attending an SSPX chapel. But further away than that I could not go.
The SSPX would do well to to put these on TikTok. The youth are no longer on FB and UA-cam. I get that 3min vids Is a short time, so you would have to make a lot of parts but it would be worth it.

As long as core beliefs are respected one is a "true christian" not a pawn of corrupt popes or pronunciations of a corrupt church. When in doubt scripture is the best resource for all of us.

The parallel is possibly a little more subtle than the image of a father becoming abusive towards his own family, and thereby justifying actions by the son to ignore the father, and possibly kick him out of the family home. I imagine a family that has for generations worked as millers, passing the milling traditional down from father to son for over a thousand years. Then one year the present miller announces that he’s going to step back from milling, and instead of passing ownership to his son, he lets his windmill to a third party, and lives off the rental income. The son, though disgruntled, accepts the decision and in time comes to enjoy the fruits of the rental income. In the meantime, the operator of the windmill notices that imported Chinese flour is cheaper than the stuff he turns out. The son’s son, in turn, decides that the rental income could be improved by outright selling the mill and investing the proceeds in a tracker fund. And, at the same time, the new owner-operator of the windmill works out that its more profitable to sell rebranded imported Chinese flour and re-open the windmill as a ‘working museum’, complete with rides for the kids plus a gift shop. Everybody is raking it in (except perhaps some Chinese factory worker), and every night there is a boozy party, and everybody stays in bed until midday the following day. Then one day the son’s son’s son begins to wonder what it’s all about, especially as his father has the world’s worst hangover and he’s heard on the news that some people have gotten sick from consuming adulterated flour sold at the local theme park. So he looks into his family’s past to see where things went wrong. He sees that his ancestors lived nobly as millers, but made a series of well-intentioned decisions that seemed to make sense at the time. Regardless of those good intentions, the son’s son’s son knows that what has resulted is evil and he is determined to get back to producing good flour that doesn’t make you ill. He knows that the tradition consists of more than mere obedience to his father, and that any authority he shall have over his own son shall come about only through passing down the tradition to him, and not simply by shouting ‘Do as your told. I’m your father, for Chrissakes!’
It is not a question of justifying what it does, because certainly it has the right and the sacred duty to celebrate the Mass of Immemorial Tradition, but of justifying what it believes and teaches and imposes on salvation.

One SSPX priest in Africa explained the following to his faithful:
"A general reminder that the Latin class will begin [for the parish]...
It is hoped that by acquiring an elementary knowledge of the
language of our Mother the Church you will be able to appreciate
more profoundly the liturgy and the prayers of the Mass. It is one
of the most fundamental and basic skills that every Catholic
should have, or in the words of Cicero: "non enim tam praeclarum
est scire Latine quam turpe nescire" (It is not so praiseworthy to
know Latin, as rather it is a shame not to know it) [Brutus, 37.140]...
Many of our students have noted that the Latin language is not only
valuable for knowing the liturgy but especially for developing a
clarity of thought and for mastering one's own native language...
Many persons have asked for lessons of French which is important for the
life of Tradition as many publications are in this language and the
Archbishop himself gave many conferences in this language. Fr. ________
would be happy to offer these lessons, but as these are not as necessary
for salvation as the Latin language they will be offered on an
individual basis and for a fee. Those desiring should address themselves
to Father directly."
I think Father was being a little tongue in cheek by saying Latin was "necessary for salvation". He later ran a French camp as well, and ongoing lessons open to the whole parish. His energy and zeal are edifying to me!
I think Latin is a joy and a great help to living the liturgical life for an ordinary Catholic if he has the time, and capacity and can find a good teacher / method. I would suggest Ossa Latinitatis Sola by Fr. Reginald Foster if you intend to study on your own. It's presentation is not exactly classic, but I think it is a great "way in" for self-study.
On the other hand, don't feel an undue pressure as if you were a "bad Catholic" for not learning Latin. Life is hard enough as it is... But if you have time, leisure and inclination, go for it!

A blog posted recently criticizing the SSPX cites the Council of Trent saying this:
"If anyone saith that bishops…who have neither been rightly ordained, nor sent by ecclesiastical and canonical power, but come from elsewhere, are lawful ministers of the word and of the sacraments; let him be anathema.”
It seems easy to say "Well if the fathers of Trent could see the Church now they would have made qualification."
So that raises in my mind another question, does Our Lord have intentions for a dogmatic definition beyond what a Council may understand itself to be saying? I don't want to go down the road of "that was then, this is now, we have to read Trent in its context."
I would refute by saying a face value reading and application would exclude danger of death confessions by excised priests, which it doesn't. So the blog's argument either proves too much or Trent should in fact be taken with the relevant caveat of epikeya discussed here

What is the Society’s opinion of the bishops consecrated by Bishop Williamson? Rome has never questioned the validity of the original four, but the further away one gets the murkier things seem to me. Equally with all those Thuc bishops.
I don't know on what grounds anyone would contest the validity of ordination of the Bishops consecrated by Bishop Williamson. The SSPX recognizes their valid Episcopal consecration. The "necessity" that would justify their consecration, i.e. that the SSPX has essentially defected from the line of Archbishop Lefebvre, of course is precisely the point of divergence.
As regards the Thuc line, Fr. Peter Scott, SSPX had this to say:
"I do not believe that there is a strong reason to doubt the validity of the episcopal consecrations performed by the exiled Vietnamese Archbishop Ngo Dinh Thuc. However, there are several lesser reasons, that might be considered sufficient to establish some kind of positive doubt in the matter. These include the absence of correct witnesses during the original ceremony of consecration, which was done in private, and in the middle of the night.
Also relevant is Thuc’s confused mental state, as evidenced by his public concelebration of the New Mass with the local Novus Ordo bishop of the diocese of Toulon, just one month before these consecrations in 1981. Also, the lack of conviction can be seen in the fact that twice he consecrated bishops illicitly and twice he requested absolution from the canonical punishment of excommunication. These frequent changes indicate that he was a man who, to say the least, lacked conviction about what he was doing. This is further confirmed by his failure to join the Coetus internationalis patrum, the traditional group of bishops at Vatican II, and by a certain liberal tendency that he showed during the Council, speaking out against discrimination directed towards women and in favor of ecumenism. Consequently, although the logical thing would be to presume that he did have the intention of confecting the sacrament of Holy Orders, the absence of co-consecrators, and of a clear purpose, does open the door to some astonishment and doubt. Any doubt concerning the first bishops that he consecrated would clearly be passed on to any other bishops and priests ordained as a consequence."
@@SSPX ‘Defected from +Lefevbre’ introduces precisely the problem of ‘Traditionalist Protestantism’. There is no doubt in my mind that the SSPX is a part of and defends the Roman Catholic Church. But then a bishop decides they don’t defend it well enough and starts his own branch, and as this process of splitting off continues, the original Catholic identity of the groups becomes more and more attenuated, and their bishops, valid or not, irrelevant to the life of the Church. If things get bad enough in my diocese I would have no scruple whatever about attending an SSPX chapel. But further away than that I could not go.
The SSPX would do well to to put these on TikTok. The youth are no longer on FB and UA-cam. I get that 3min vids Is a short time, so you would have to make a lot of parts but it would be worth it.

As long as core beliefs are respected one is a "true christian" not a pawn of corrupt popes or pronunciations of a corrupt church. When in doubt scripture is the best resource for all of us.
Wrong. The perennial teaching of the Church is the sure guide, not sola scriptura.
