I ‘ve had 3 generations of Novablast. The 3 is the best for me. The mesh is durable, the shoes is quite light for a daily, very comfortable . But drawback is that is the foam which, in my opinion, quickly loses its energy return qualities. I keep them for easy days runs.
Endorphin, narrower, have a « light legs » feeling. They are absolutly nice for tempo training, long repeats, threshold training. I keep them for this kind of training. Love them!

is Endorphin's foam more durable and doesn't lose the energy return as fast as NB3?

Great review, but I think it's an odd comparison. IMHO, the Speed 3 is a performance trainer that some might use as a daily trainer. The Novablast 3 is more of a daily trainer, that some might use as a performance trainer.
I have the Novablast 3 and would never use it as a performance trainer.

Triumph 20, I was looking for something more max cushioned, focused on easy days to replace my dying daily trainer, the Kinvara and pair with my Speed 2. I don't think the Speed 3 belongs into my rotation but I'm in love with the Chicago colourway. So I'm grasping at anything to justify buying the Speed 3. I will probably use it for easy, tempo and long runs.

I have both and absolutely love both. The review is spot on. It's up to personal preference when choosing one over the other but, for me, considering how many miles I put into daily running/training, it was an easy decision to get and use both. In fact, I have multiple pairs of both in different colorways. You can do everything with both but, as Kieran says, the Speed 3 is a little more nimble, faster, and less bulky. The NB3 is a little more plush, comfortable, and, for me, a little more "fun" to run in.
I think these are definitely the two best daily trainers of the year. And they are quite different in the feel and ride with different strengths, so if you put in a lot of miles per week as I do (70+), then just get both and rotate them and keep & save a carbon-plated shoes for racing. You can use both for virtually everything else: speed, tempo, daily, long/easy, recovery, and even just walking around. ASICS and Saucony both nailed it with these shoes and it's really a great time to be a runner.

Good take. I also have both and agree. Personally, I find NB3 as my true daily trainer for “do anything” runs, then use Speed 3 for tempo, interval days. I’ll probably stick with the Speed 3 for half marathon/70.3 races. I briefly tried Saucony Triumph 20, but returned them because they seemed to be more comparable to Novablast than the Speed 3.

Good review. I’d be curious to see if anything about your review would change if you went down half a size in the Novablast 3. I’ve always been an ASICS person as I like the way they fit my feet and they tend to be the most comfortable shoe of any brand I’ve tried. I only ran off and on for most of my life but became a little more serious during the pandemic. Ran three half marathons in the past year (1st one in Cumulus 23, second two in Novablast 2). I downsized from 10 to 9.5 for Novablast 2. Just got Novablast 3 a few days ago. The decision to downsize was not quite as obvious but I did for the Novablast 3 as well and I think that was the right call. Only done one run in them so far and got a 10K PR. My default daily trailer now is Cumulus 24 (and I still throw the Novablast 2 which are at 398 miles into the mix a little bit too). Planning to use Novablast 3 for my first marathon (CIM) in December. Anyway, you should try the Novablast 3 a half size smaller and let us know what you think!

For my use (interval training and fast long rund) the Speed 2 might be an even better solution than Speed 3

Have the NB3 - confirming they're a bit long in the toe box. Have ordered a half size down to see if that helps. Due to the extra length, the shoe feels a little long when running, but fantastic underfoot nonetheless. Would love to try the ES3 - I also have its bigger brother in the Pro 3 which I ran the Melbourne Half Marathon in. All I can say is WOW - the shoe is brilliant in every way!

The surprise over sizing on the Novablast 3 I find a bit strange as I thought it was pretty common that the Novablasts fit long since V1. I just tried V1 & 3 back to back & the US11 in the 3 fits length wise like the 1 in US10.5. Plus I find the width a bit narrower on the Nova3 at midfoot & my little toe, plus the toe feels a touch lower so all up the 11 is good. I also have the Speed 3 in US11 (I ended up with the Speed 1 in US11.5 as it was squeezing my little toe too much) and that feels nice in that size but if I had to criticise anything there I feel like it has a touch too much volume in the general forefoot area as compared to the Nova. I do like both though 😄

I own both and i completely echo your comments. Novablast 3 for me is a perfect daily trainer (I have sized 1/2 size down) and is brilliant for easy days and daily miles. The speed is a more "faster feel" shoe on foot (true to size) and you can feel that "response" so perfect for tempo/moderate efforts. I think you can easily own both in a rotation. Also certain websites now sell the Novablast 3 for under £100 so thats a steal.

@@Kaisersozze I agree with Thomas. I haven't ran that pace personally (my easy runs are about 5-5:15min/km) but the Novablast feels inherently more "cushioned" compared to the speed. Whether thats purely midsole, or the mixture of midsole/more padding around the heel, that's probably personal to the runner. It eats up miles. The speed almost makes you want to run that little bit faster.

I really love the Speed 3, I feel it performs at all paces, and it is super comfortable. Because of the price, however, I prefer to save the Speed 3 for my speed sessions. I haven't tried the Novablast 3 yet, I was wondering if it would be a good shoe for easy runs and recovery? To me it kinda looks like that kind of shoe.
Regarding size, I don't know if the same applies to the Asics Novablast 3, but in the Asics Gel Nimbus 24, i had to go half a size down compared to my regular EU size 41. The size 41 was working ok, but felt too long in the toe box, and even after I had used it for a couple of runs the store was kind enough to let me swap it for a EU 40.5, and it feels so much better. Based on this video I'm thinking going half a size down for the Novablast 3 might be a good idea also.

After 11km, I started to feel a pain in my right leg, in the sole in the front area, at the pads of the toes. I continued though and finished 21km in one hour and 35 minutes. But, Novablast 3, left a serious blister on my sole. Disappointment. I decided to use thinner and tighter socks on my foot to give them another chance... Bottom line: Novablast 3, not wow! The Nova blast is very large and I don't care for the fit through the middle, and toe box is shallow cannot go down half a size, you end up rubbing top of toes. When I first put them on they were really bouncy and I felt the trampoline effect, they were a fun. But the next time I put them on they felt like a regular shoe, just big. The speed feels much lighter much more nimble, although I had a harder time getting a lockdown seems wider through the ankle. Also know the blast upper does not feel as breathable and I live in a hot area so I preferred the speed overall.

I switched from my Novablasts after about 550 miles to some Speeds I bought in the sale and immediately noticed they were much narrower, nimbler and race oriented. Personally I find the Speeds slightly too narrow but the midsole is great and the upper doesn't feel too constricting, although for ultra running I would have thought the toe box might be a bit too narrow, versus the Novablast which is roomier and allows for more foot swelling.

I got the Novablast 3 in my normal size UK 13 and largely hated it as just seemed too much shoe as you said - bit long and for my narrow feet too wide. I then measured the insole and found it was basically 0.5 cm longer than they normally are in all other brands. So basically, for me at least, it is actually literally at least 0.5 size bigger than you think. I then got a UK 12 (there is no 12.5) and that is much better. Still feel it is a recovery/easy day shoe only for me but for that probably better the Speed 3. As such I think both have their place. So be interested if you pull out both insoles and compare them then I suspect you might find your Novablast is literally 0.5 size bigger which it sounds from what you are saying.

With the Novablast 3 in a 9, I kinda feel like I'm not at one with the shoe and I'm pretty sure that's down to the sizing and also the redesigned heel cup area. I might try an 8.5 then.
