Dear Mr. Kerschen This video should have way more views and likes, it's the best quality class on youtube I have seen, thanks for your effort and time spent here, you are the best.
Dr. Jim, I just wanted to say thank you for being such an incredible teacher. I recently took an intro to microbiology online here at a community college and struggled immensely in the beginning. Although I found microbiology to be interesting, I did not get as much out of it until I found your lectures. I watched all your lecture videos with my studying. You made taking an online class much more enjoyable. I recently took my final and thank you for helping me get an A in this class!
Hi Dr. Jim, Just wanted to thank you for this great service you've provided! I'm a second time student, getting my pre reqs for nursing done and this is a lovely supplement to my online course. Be Well!
You still have a viewer years later. I’m preparing for my prerequisites to nursing school. Classes start in January and I am 29 years old so I needed a refresher to keep up with freshly graduated high school students.🖤
Good Afternoon Professor Kerschen, Just want to say thank for sharing your lectures on line. Studying from the text is great but watching and listening to your lectures was very beneficial. My Name is Marcia Jacobs I took Microbiology Fall Semester 2020 and the anticipation of outstanding result. Once again Thank You.
Thank you for your online lecture. I'm taking a hybrid microbiology class and she doesn't have any lecture options to study off of. You have explained everything perfectly. Again thank you!
@@LucasSilva-kv3km even tho my comment is useless just like yours i would like to add that this person has the youtube name Ogor Calvin, now i dont know where he came from but the fact that he could be from anywhere on the planet including places where microbiology is not a concept as of yet, i also think that is truely amazing.
iam watching UA-cam to prepare myself for prerequisites for nursing school. school is in the fall and I just wanna feel like wow I know the answer to that and feel confident in passing my classes 😊 thanks
me too I am in the same boat as you... I have Microbiology this Fall and wanted to learn a few things and not walk into class blindly. Best wished to you as you begin your journey :)
Which text book are you using? I am taking micro and use Pearsons Microbiology, an introduction. My teacher has no videos, podcasts or notes and this is a blended class. I feel a little lost so I'm hoping that your videos will fill in for what I am missing from not having a traditional class.
Thank you so much for all of your uploads. I figured I would prepare ahead of time for my summer 260 course and came across your gold mine of a channel :)
Thank You So much for these videos. I am taking a microbiology course online through university of phoenix as a nursing pre-requisite and I can not grasp the material from only a textbook as they do not have any pre-recorded lectures to explain topics. I truly want to walk away with knowledge from this course and These videos are great in preparing for the future and understanding this science. I can not thank you enough!
I'm not yet taking a microbiology class, but I'm really interested in this subject, definitely when it comes to genetic engineering. So, thanks for uploading your overviews for your class's, I'm sure by watching these I'll gain a good amount of insight.
As for the Theory vs. Law concept, the way I think of it is this: a) A theory is just any model one invents to compute predictions. The goodness of a theory is the same as the goodness of a model. b) An *accepted* theory (accepted by the scientific majority) is one that has stood the test of peer review and criticism and won consensus. c) As time goes on, theories either evolve or go extinct. d) Humans have (possibly for the first time in the Universe) began an unusually transcendental evolution path that has allowed us to turn a curve and begin to develop at an exponential rate mentally. As a result, most of our big theories today are of the type that they will never be "disproven" because they imperically model very tightly within their given domain. They will only be expanded or adjusted. This is true of the Standard Model of Quantum Mechanics, of Chemistry, and of much of Microbiology by extension. To the extent the theory still has conjectures that are equally or better matched by other conjectures, it remains a theory. e) A law is an observation, with minimum interpretation, and so free of any alternative conjectures for any of its parts. This is usually achieved through intentional vagueness and limited statements, which is the case in the Law of Gravity, which simply states, "there's this phenomenon, right? I mean, you all feel it. Let's call it something." The Law of Gravity is simply the part of the theory that tells you "there's this thing.." but not the part that tells you, "and here's the complete and total equation." Newton's equation for gravity got modified by Einstein later to improve it's accuracy over a greater domain. But it's still probably not complete. So that part is a theory and not a Law, per se. But the part that just says, "Let's call this thing we experience 'Gravity'" is free from refutability as it's merely the naming of a common, self-evident *Observation*.
I decided to watch this today in the bath, was listening and wasn't because something traumatic happend to me tonight and just listening to you talked helped me keep my mind away
I just had my first class! Watched about 10 of your videos and I surprised the teacher when I was the only one who know about the Barofiles, phycrofiles. Probably misspelled that, also you explain it much better!
***** Lol btw my teacher is so confusing when she explains this, she goes too much in detail and is all over the place. Anyways good luck! The labs are fun
***** yes I watched some Khan Academy videos on gram positive and gram negative and why positive bacterias are stained and why negatives aren't. It tells you he shape of the bacterial cell really simple.
Hello Dr Gill. Just wanna take this time to give u a thumbs up for your clear informative Micro videos,. I undertook my test yesterday 8/14/18 and i got an A. Keep up the good work and may God bless u mightly for your selflessness. Thanx again. Esther
I'm starting to learn microbiology on my own, since I don't have money to go back to school, I'm trying to learn this on my own through experience and youtube sadly but I'm excited and ready for the challenge
Thank you Sir! I just recently got out of Bio 168 and 169 at my college and am considering taking Microbio simply for fun. This was a great video to give me an overview of what I will be getting into. Best regards!
hello Dr. james. good evening . Today i watched your lecture on microbiology and I felt that your lecture will help me in improving my knowledge in microbiology and in my exam. tnx sir
hi Edward thanks for the video, i have microbiology this semester and i liked your explanation. you did not confuse my brains at all. hope i will get good grades at the end of the semester . thank you :)
I am taking Microbiology online as a prerequisite for nursing and your breakdown is helping a lot! thank you! I would like to know your opinion on the COVID-19 pathogen and it's effects on all systems of the body.
