I use the foundations in Microbiology by Talaro, 9th edition. You can use an earlier edition with the videos, I know it is available on Amazon. Good luck and thanks for watching. Dr. Jim
Edward Kerschen, I’m here because of my curiosity of viruses from the social distancing strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m an illustrator and just getting my head around the notion of its size, structure and realizing just how fascinating viruses are as a phenomena of evolutionary biology. It’s hard believe that they aren’t alive and don’t have a selfish hive motive to strategically reproduce but I guess that is a philosophical question more than a life sciences one. Anyway, truly fascinating and thanks for sharing the video. BTW you look like Phil Anselmo, lead singer of Pantera! 🦠🤟🏼🧬🎸
Thank you so much! I am a medical student who is taking microbiology right now. My finals are this week coming up and this video has made a huge help to me. Thank you once again! Grateful for people like you who take time to create videos for confuse students like me. :)
Thank you, I am taking microbiology right now but I'm not getting it at all, the way you explain it it actually make sense and how you make examples from real life makes it more understandable, thank you!!!!
I just want to thank you Professor Kerschen. These videos will help me so much this semester, because my professor only reads the power points, instead of explaining what she's teaching. I understand so much more watching your videos. No need to be sorry for the length of the videos, because they're really informative and helpful. Thank you!
Our professor goes way too deep into the material and I never understand it. However, after watching your videos, I have a better understanding of what he's talking about. Thank you
I appreciate you posting this lecture. My instructor for an online class doesnt lecture. Your lectures help me understand better than just reading her power point slides she gives out.
My microbiology professor has been out of class for a week and a half, starting to think she caught COVID-19, I’ve been struggling to understand material, it’s the 4th week and I haven’t taken a single test with 5 chapters already finished, this really helped me, thank you so much
My micro class was switched to online learning due to covid-19 and social distancing. My teacher is very much over the virtual experience which unfortunately means that "we" students don't get much fundamental teaching of microbiology. This video was tremendously helpful in explaining what I think we would typically learn in a class setting.
Thanks so much for your help. I am using this to help me prepare for the microbiology course I will be taking in the spring. I really hope by the time I get there, it will simply be a rehashing of things I already know, which will enable me to take a deeper dive into the concepts.
Thank you so much, this video really helped me in my studies especially during this period of CoVid pandemic where we do our classes online. Big Salute.
I didn't get the uncoating part. So the difference between bacteriophages and animal viruses is, that the there's after the penetration the additional step of uncoating? Besides that, I get the difference between "Penetration" and "Uncoating"; however, I don't see the difference between what these terms describe. Would be awesome if you explained this once again, e.g. a quick video showing these two steps would help a lot. EDIT: Oh, should've waited two minutes. Got it know, thanks!
Greetings from Sardinia (Italy), I have not yet seen the whole video ... I would like to know what are the scientific data that allow you to say, for example, about the membrane (Enveloped Virus), "acquired when the virus leaves the host cell". Have you seen movies? Have you read books? Did you hear it from someone who scanned viruses? Sorry for my naivety and cheeky but for me it is essential. Thanks anyway, yours, for the moment, is one of the best videos! Hi
+111276244488531458808 They might have formed naturally by random action. But they're not saying. The DNA or RNA might form naturally, then other stuff might attach to that. There probably is electrical attachment involved.
Hello. I know Im not your student officially, but Im feel like you are my teacher. I have an exam on 21st from Microbiology, and if I dont get a full score or close to it,my GPA will drop and I will loose my scholarship. I really need your help. My microbiology book is, Brock's,which is not matching with your chapters. And some of your videos don't have the name of the topic so I don't know which video would be good for me. Please please help me. My final exam will cover: 1.ch8.-Viruses and Virology 2.ch9-Viral Genomes and Diversity 3.ch10-Genetics of Bacteria and Archae 4.ch111-Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology 5.ch12-Microbial Evolution and Systematics 6.ch18-Methods in Microbial Ecology. Please please please please, help me,you are my only hope to not loose my scholarship. Thank you very much.
In my opinion we all shall forget about scolarship and these none sense things. I'm mechanical engineer and I love to know about these biological things, that's what really matters....your enthusiasm :)
I tend to agree. I love the content but I'm 72 years old and my hearing is not as good as it used to be. I would appreciate more volume and better audio quality. Some words seem to be slurred.

Are you using the microbiology book from tortora?
CN I get the pdf file of all the topics of microbiology would help me a lot.
thank you!
Kuru sounds more like a natural selection processes amongst canibals than a disease. "He who not eat brain eat da most."
Prions don't degrade - they just build and build. How do they build?...
Here I am watching this cause I bombed my 3rd test lol like F… my overall grade dropped from a 94.6 to a 84.6🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️.
thankyou sir
Thanks
How did the first virus form?
