I like to think that the khvostov is our guardian's legendary weapon. Like how we find exotics and gear of legendary guardians and learn their stories through them and the khvostov is that for our guardian
@knightspartan7201 bastion was more of a "this was our favourite weapon before we died" weapon and has ties to Saint-14 because of its prominent purple ribbons and design, it was also gifted to us by Saint-14. I'll give you traveller's chosen though, its either OUR gun specifically or its a service weapon (because the OG armor at d2 launch is parade armor, akin to how the Into the Light armor is called Parade Armor). Whereas Khvostov is OUR weapon, there isnt really anything else like it in the game, a kind of uncanny feeling due to the futuristic fantasy setting of the game juxtaposed by the fact that its basically an AR-15. There isnt anything like it and yet it feels like there should be; I think thats what the Original commentor was mentioning
Bungie would never do that because God forbid there is an actual good Kinetic slot exotic. Why would you ever use Khvostov over The Call and an exotic heavy. There really is only 20-30 actual good weapons in the game.
It would be really nice if it got a catalyst that allowed it to get a version of onslaught but in a way that getting a kill would increase the fire rate to 777....idk 😂 I'm reaching with that but it would be funny
I've always thought that the dot-and-ring crosshair on the Khvostov's holo sight is one of the best-feeling scopes of any weapon in the game, even though it's just the "lowly" Khvostov. Glad to see they kept it for this, its final form haha

The fact that it looks like the bullet can ricochet to and from the same two targets until it runs out of ricochets is amazing. This thing is going to be an ad-clear monster.
Cool throw back to D1 exotic version would be the catalyst making it a craftable version and you can choose the 3 options. Full auto would keep it the adaptive frame autorifle, the single shot version would be like aggresive frame scout rifle, and the bust mode would be like a rapid fire frame pulse rifle.
I don't know if anyone else can see this but in the video it shows the round ricocheting between two different enemies multiple times therefore you don't need multiple enemies around you can just ricochet it off of two people only and it could wipe out a good chunk of health on orange bars This looks lovely like all the other weapons they have and I super stoked for next week
i think if "Shoot to Loot" is able to be procced off the ricochet then the gun will actually be incredible. (like the ricochet picks up ammo/orbs of power on its own without having to be aimed at/shot) Thats a big "IF" tho, but one can hope

Being able to hide behind cover and pick up an orb at distance to then get a bunch of ricotets to hit any and all ads in front of you? Is it going to be best in slot? Probably not but this one and red death will probably have use cases a cross the entire spectrum of player skill levels which is rare these days
If it has a catalyst for kinetic tremors you'll get so much mileage out of shoot to loot. Have a few weapons with that combination and it vacuums ammo up that you didn't even know about.

This works exactly like a weapon from Borderlands 3. *Redistributor,* a Hyperion SMG where every seventh shot is amped and ricochets to nearby targets.
I still think it was a missed opportunity to not have khvostov be the ultimate customizable gun. We couldve gotten a true auto/scout/pulse hybrid. Instead we got kinetic hardlight
nah i used it lots in Destiny 1, it was mediocre for auto, scout and pulse mode compared to other weapons in its class. Yeah you could switch it on the fly but it would still be worse than others in its class type that. Rather have this instead of that old style hybrid.

@@anathame3649 Yes it does: The gun already has “Shoot to Loot”, so now the catalyst interacts with your special and heavy ammo the same way it does with orbs of power, while orbs and ammo both bolster all of your armor stats a full tier. That makes the gun a well rounded compliment a variety of builds without overshadowing more specialized exotics, as it should be for our “signature” gun.
I wonder when they started working on bringing this exotic back. The use of the word "several" in the Eyes Up, Guardian trait and giving seven stacks on orb pick up, could be a reference to Survivor 46 Ep Several (aired April 10). This is all conjecture of course.
Never really been one who's super nostalgic about Khvostov but this version looks actually good. Especially with how kinetics interacts with Prismatic. Def a workhorse weapon so I'll play with it a lil bit
If they would’ve made it where it always hit headshots (Crits) after a ricochet, it would 100% be an S tier Kinetic Weapon for Chromatic Fire. Even still, adding Chromatic Fire would be like Borderlands (Conference Call Shotgun) on steroids, also if the catalyst is Firefly and possibly a range/stability bump would also be great . I realized that in the early days of destiny, I liked the game as much for the cool guns and animations. When they started to reuse everything constantly all the time, that really killed part of it for me.

If that ‘Eyes Up, Guardian’ stays the same involving collecting Orbs of Power, it’s going to go great with my builds as all my builds are Orb generating machines (which also in return, heals me upon picking them up) ranging from: - Kinetic to Energy kills - Powered Melee kills - Grenade kills And then the Reaper mod on my class item which grants an Orb upon getting a Kill after using an ability. I’m a simple man when it comes to PvE, so that’s why my builds aren’t considered at all part of the Meta. Keeps the game interesting and engaging for me making weird builds such as mine.

No disrespect, but this comment has no logic of how the game works behind it. SUROS REGIME speeds up, that's its identity. It doesn't speed up and also do another specific identity thing. Legendary ARs don't have exotic identity, so Raising the rpm creates a reason to use that legendary. I'm thinking it might still be craftable, since it has 5 perks including a stock, same as other crafted exotics. Whether or not it will be as customizable as the D1 version with separate fire modes remains to be seen.

The first moment I figure out how to get this gun I’m going after it. I want my friend back. This has been the one exotic that I have wanted to see back in the game because it’s just that gun.
They went so far with the 7 references that if you added every number that has a 7 in it, you would be 493. then adding 4+9+3 together, gets you 16. then 1+6 = 7. Insane.

My Titan bouta have the time of their life in The Final Shape. Exotic Khvostov is back and looks genuinely good, i can get 3 consecrations charges, hazardous propulsion looks like a fun soldier based exotic which i am FULLY down for, new void super where i can throw axes, BoW builds bouta be arguably more busted with the other new exotic. goddamn bro im so excited.
Imagine you like an specific ice-cream flavor. It gets discontinued so you start asking for it tk return. Eventually it returns but with a different color and flavor, it just has the same name. Thats how this feels for us Khvostov fans. We didn't care it wasn't meta. We just liked the gun.
Are the ricochet rounds a piercing projectile or is the white beams from said round just a visual indication? If it is a projectile would it hit a div bubble multiple times and or the enemy itself.
im happy this doesn't fall in line with the rest of the craftable exotics, i don't feel like slogging through legend missions just to unlock a damn mag perk
Honestly I am surprised it's not craftable. I feel like this weapon would be. And like someone else here said, this is probably our guardians weapon lore wise.
It is 100% going to be craftable cause that shoot to loot perk, also the kenetic slot has a lot of bangers rn, mountain top, blast furnace with one for all, Midnight coup, and Outbreak its gonna be a fight to take that slot. Plus it looks like a pulse rifle metah is inbound.
My first guess is that kinetic surge is _supposed_ to affect the ricochet damage as well but that it's bugged. Not super familiar with game dev but I'm guessing that, to make the ricochet effect, a new bullet is spawned on the target which is then fired towards the next target, and so on. This newly spawned bullet probably lacks whatever identifier that would let it benefit from kinetic surge, perhaps a tag identifying the player as the "owner" of the bullet. But I also know just enough about game dev to know that it could also be a hundred other things lol. I'm just too used to new things being bugged in D2 so my first guess is always: eh, probably bugged. Can't say I envy the devs tbh, just gotta throw that out there. It's a huge, complex game with years and years of changes and additions layered on top of each other, and they never get enough time to really polish their work (hell, or even finish it sometimes) because the live service model is just brutal.
Same I learned some programming this past year and seeing how many people have had hands on that code must be insane for any new devs that have to work on this game.
Since you was play testing a dev build, couldn’t you ask the devs about the questions you brought up? Like the eyes up guardian “damage buff” not working or the kinetic surge mods not applying to the ricochet bullet?
Catalyst should give a modified kinetic tremors where any richohed bullets will start a kinetic tremors for every enemy. Just not in pvp if this was in pvp it would be hell
I still believe the best option Bungie could have chosen for the Khvostov was make it legendary and craftable. Skyrocketing its versatility with any build. But since that wasn't the case (again), it will be the same story that happened with the exotic version from D1, which is the same weapon with a gimmick. Once tested, it will rest in your vault forever. At least it's a better gimmick than the D1 version, I suppose, but still they didn't do justice to a nice weapon restrained by a useless rarity system.
I'm curious to see what builds can center around using Khvostov the best. I feel Stasis would be a strong subclass to pair it with considering some of the kinetic weapon synergies it has.
I really hope they make this craftable at some point. Cause after that grind going to do everything, I don't find having shoot to fuckin loot worth it. Idc about the whole orb thing. I'll go pick them up like I always do

Imagine you like an specific ice-cream flavor. It gets discontinued so you start asking for it tk return. Eventually it returns but with a different color and flavor, it just has the same name.
Thats how this feels for us Khvostov fans. We didn't care it wasn't meta. We just liked the gun.
Are the ricochet rounds a piercing projectile or is the white beams from said round just a visual indication? If it is a projectile would it hit a div bubble multiple times and or the enemy itself.
And don’t forget that the impact is 21, which is divisible by 7

0:50 got me thinking why not just give it 17 or 27 range aswell? then it hit me that there is 7 present in 7 of the 8 stats of the gun. brilliant.
im happy this doesn't fall in line with the rest of the craftable exotics, i don't feel like slogging through legend missions just to unlock a damn mag perk
I hope the catalyst if ever there is one gives it some type of range buff. Either way as an AR main im looking forward to getting my hands on this
How accurate do have to be though with shoot to loot. Last I checked it’s REALLY not a controller friendly perk.
Honestly I am surprised it's not craftable. I feel like this weapon would be. And like someone else here said, this is probably our guardians weapon lore wise.
I need to see how this plays with chromatic fire, like can I get potentially 7 elemental explosions from 1 precision kill
It is 100% going to be craftable cause that shoot to loot perk, also the kenetic slot has a lot of bangers rn, mountain top, blast furnace with one for all, Midnight coup, and Outbreak its gonna be a fight to take that slot. Plus it looks like a pulse rifle metah is inbound.

My first guess is that kinetic surge is _supposed_ to affect the ricochet damage as well but that it's bugged. Not super familiar with game dev but I'm guessing that, to make the ricochet effect, a new bullet is spawned on the target which is then fired towards the next target, and so on. This newly spawned bullet probably lacks whatever identifier that would let it benefit from kinetic surge, perhaps a tag identifying the player as the "owner" of the bullet.
But I also know just enough about game dev to know that it could also be a hundred other things lol. I'm just too used to new things being bugged in D2 so my first guess is always: eh, probably bugged.
Can't say I envy the devs tbh, just gotta throw that out there. It's a huge, complex game with years and years of changes and additions layered on top of each other, and they never get enough time to really polish their work (hell, or even finish it sometimes) because the live service model is just brutal.
Same I learned some programming this past year and seeing how many people have had hands on that code must be insane for any new devs that have to work on this game.
The ricochet seemed a bit more in the dev showcase. Hopefully it will be decent in F.S. Can you swap weapons and keep the 7th bullet/trait up?
Instead of alloy mag, Bungie should give it Armor-Piercing rounds instead.

If your damage buff numbers are right, the ricochet buff of 252% is also a 7 thing., being 7 × 22

Since you was play testing a dev build, couldn’t you ask the devs about the questions you brought up? Like the eyes up guardian “damage buff” not working or the kinetic surge mods not applying to the ricochet bullet?

Catalyst should give a modified kinetic tremors where any richohed bullets will start a kinetic tremors for every enemy. Just not in pvp if this was in pvp it would be hell
Khvostov missing out on menagerie and Onslaught is the real crime.
I still believe the best option Bungie could have chosen for the Khvostov was make it legendary and craftable. Skyrocketing its versatility with any build. But since that wasn't the case (again), it will be the same story that happened with the exotic version from D1, which is the same weapon with a gimmick. Once tested, it will rest in your vault forever.
At least it's a better gimmick than the D1 version, I suppose, but still they didn't do justice to a nice weapon restrained by a useless rarity system.

I'm curious to see what builds can center around using Khvostov the best. I feel Stasis would be a strong subclass to pair it with considering some of the kinetic weapon synergies it has.
I haven't played any of the new dlc yet but this would most likely pair really well with actium

Did you notice the impact is divisible by 7 and the 43 rounds (4+3=7)
If the ricochet bullets could proc shoot to loot by bouncing off of ammo and orbs on the ground this could be insane.
To add onto the 7 mayhem this gun has its impact is 21. 7x3=21 mind blown
I was hoping it would be craftable in some sort to change the RPM, barrel, mag, stock etc in spirit of the D1 exotic

I really hope they make this craftable at some point. Cause after that grind going to do everything, I don't find having shoot to fuckin loot worth it. Idc about the whole orb thing. I'll go pick them up like I always do
17 zoom on a 600rpm is a weird choice, especially with that low range stat, very curious to see how it plays in pvp

Looks so fun to use. But I hate that iron sight. I wish we could change it like in D1
This has to be craftable simply because it doesn't have RICOCHET ROUNDS which would make more sense for this weapon to have.
Subsistance for a catalyst would be amazing for this gun
