  • Building an overland camper is no mean feat, living and working on and off road full time and in all sorts of conditions, demands a certain amount of... well everything. This was always going to be a challenging head scratching build.
    We've learnt a lot from our time on the road, and after 5.5 years full timing across Europe, Asia and North Africa, in all conditions, we know only too well the importantance of capacity coupled with functionality ....
    One thing is for sure, building your dream overland camper is more complex than building a house. Stick with us as we max out this build, and future proof it for traveling the world.
    We'd love to know if you'd do anything different, let us know in the comments 🙏

    Loving watching the truck build. Appreciate you taking the time to explain what’s happening at each stage. Looking forward to seeing the finished article touring the roads of the Emerald Isle in the not too distant future 😊

    Truck looks great with the decals. You can see why these things cost so much. The amount of work that goes into it is amazing.

      Thank you so much, we're definitely in the moment right now & I'm sure I'll look back and think yes, we built that.

    Looks great guys!... are your chassis bins air tight Phil
    ?... are you fitting one way rubber valves for drainage?

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  23 дні тому

      Thank you 😊
      They are, wasn’t planning on it, my last truck had Bawer bins and didn’t have any - it wasn’t any issue.
      I’ll see how it goes, I might fit some silicone duckbills at some point (it’s priority 527 on the list right now) 😂🙏

    Enthralling series Phil. The amount of dedication required is an eye opener. Thank you very much for the education.

      I know, but we need the V5 to be changed from HGV for a number of reasons, particularly when traveling further afield, that means complying with DVLA/DVSA

    Great video 🙂Have been enjoying watching the progress as we are at the early stages of our build. Can I ask what the distance is between your cab and the box for the crawl through?

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  23 дні тому +1

      Hi thank you, it’s approx 200mm, there’s a slight curve in the rear cab wall so slightly wider at the top. 👍

    Looks great. Seat cushions look really comfy. Two questions: Did you consider the use of 80-20 type aluminum extrusion for the various framing requirements rather than the wood and aluminum angles and shapes used ?...Did you have to use a non return vent device in the waste line(s) piping to prevent unpleasant smells from coming back up the line from the gray tank ?.

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  23 дні тому +1

      Hi and thank you, my initial intent was to use MiniTech (same as 80/20), had seen it at the Abenteuer & Allrad show last year & was impressed, I even went to the factory in Basingstoke.
      However, the cost was significant - for the bed area, encasing the water tank & seating was coming in over £2k.
      Re waste; I’ll be using traps to prevent any foul smells, we had the same setup in our last truck with no issues around smell, similar to a house. 👍😊

      @TheGapDecaders Thanks for the inciteful response. I have been looking at 80-20 for some projects of my own, mainly finding it attractive due to it's ease of fabrication and assembly (and very importantly subsequent full or partial disassembly/modification if needed), but agree it's big downside is cost, especially if you use their fancy connectors.
