The 80's Braves didn't win a lot but were fun to watch.

They had a good offense in the 80’s with Murphy and Horner..But the Braves Pitching back then was brutal

@@cheddarcheese7928 They had Phil Niekro, Gene Garber, Bruce Sutter, Rick Camp, Zane Smith, Rick Mahler, Steve Bedrosian, Doyle Alexander, Paul Assemacher, and Tom Glavine and John Smoltz at the very end of the decade. Not a bad group of pitchers.

@@willp.8120 Your right..But it’s not like they had them all at the same time in the 80’s..when I think of Smoltz and Glavine they really didn’t come into their own til the 90’s.Even Bedrosian was a star for the Phillies more than the Braves. But ur right,The Braves did have a few gems on the mound

Cable TV came to my small town in 1981 and I ended up watching the Braves. Ironically the Braves made the playoffs that year.

Hey guys, I was a teenaged ball player in the 80's and I grew up watching all three of you every night. That was a special time for me. Thanks for the great memories.

Watching those Braves team was like baseball purgatory and made me ecstatic when they rose during the 90's. Murphy was the best.

The late 70's and early 80's Braves were what made me a Braves fan!!! I think they earned a LOT OF FANS in those days when the Superstation was going nationwide.

OMG…as an 8-9 year old kid around 1980, I had a little 13” black and white tv in my room with only 5 channels. Yeah, sometimes I’d watch part of a game with my dad on the “big” tv broadcasting on ABC or something, but it was that Braves team on TBS that captivated me. I absolutely spent countless hours in my back yard wanting to catch just like Bruce Benedict. I worked on his stance, his way of blocking, his footwork coming out of the crouch, all of it. Bruce was my baseball role model and there is no doubt about that. Bruce, if you ever see this…I have a 10 year old daughter playing softball and she is now learning from me how to catch the way you showed me on that little screen. Thanks for the memories!

Channel 17, WTBS. Games were usually at 7:35 or 7:05, so that they matched the television station's programming that were on the 5s and 35s of the hour.
Reruns of Gilligan's Island, Andy Griffith, Beverly Hillbillies, and Leave it to Beaver.

"Center Fielder, Dale Murphy" in that PA announcer's voice which was really unique. The closest anyone came to him was the Cincinnati Reds announcer in the mid 2000s.

I was a kid in the 80s and definitely the 80s Braves were a big part in my youth! Raised in a small southwest town in Texas, I was not an astros or rangers fan. I was and still am a Braves fan. Watching the Braves on WTBS with my friends was alot of fun!! My brother’s favorite player was Glenn Hubbard. I loved all of them! It’s so awesome to see Dale,Bruce and Glenn. Brings back such beautiful memories of my childhood 🙏🏼

I remember those late 80s games when my dad, brother, and myself would go to the game. My dad would usually buy General Admission Tickets. It was 3 dollars for him, and a dollar for my brother, and myself. Five dollars for us three to attend a game and sit out in the outfield upper deck. Sometimes we were one of the few who were in the section.

Even tho I seen some games on TBS in the 80's when they were bad, with these three plus Bob Horner, Phil Niekro, Gene Garber, etc...I didn't become a Braves fan til 91. I grew up a Kansas City Royals fan, initially then claimed the Braves as my NL team in 1991 but f I were lucky enough to ask all three a question, it would be how did they all feel about all the success the Braves had all throughout the 90's and early 2000's after all those bad years (outside of the 1982 season).

@@willp.8120 The Twins had Kirby Puckett their legend! He had lost a step but hit the deciding HR in game 6 that forced Game 7 giving Jack Morris another start! If the Braves still had their Legend Dale Murphy then that would have been all the difference needed for a Braves World Championship in 1991!

Funny story here...I remember when these guys played for the Richmond Braves ( I was a season ticket holder never missed a game ) and they tried Murph at catcher for awhile. Anyway, some guy took off to steal Murph fired the ball and hit the pitcher right in the back of the head. Forget who it was but I wish I could remember. That ended his catching career.
