You called it, they made the 14900KS into a 200 dollar premium of a 10% or lower chance at getting a nice bin (SP 110+) Highest bin you can get is 121 I believe. I've de-lidded mine but simply just don't have any true excitement to tear my shit apart and replace it all out yet... I just wanna game. Kinda regret buying it but got it for almost free.
Edit: Mine turned out to be 104 Global SP, 118 Pcores 76 Ecores MCSP 76. Ran 8000 XMP out of the box and was Karhu stable.

I had a good experience with my 14900KS. PC Specks are Z790 Apex, GSkill 8000 Ram, Arctic liquid Freezer II 420mm AIO, 4090 GPU. No overclock, just XMP for the memory. 5.9ghz on all P Cores and 4.5ghz on the E Cores. Core Voltage 1.36, Package Temps in the low 70s. Cenebench scores mid 39,000 range. Then used the AI overclock Tool in the Bios. 3ea P-cores were at 6.2mhz and the rest at 5.9. E-cores stayed at 4.5. Cenebench scores were over 40,000 for 4 runs until my AIO became saturated with heat. Package temps during Gaming were in the high 70s for all COD Games. Core voltage though was around 1.4 to 1.5 and the wattage on the CPU was around 250 to 270. This 420mm Aio cooler is keeping this chip cool enough to game without any crashes except when I push the GPU to its maximum. I'm also using (6ea) 140mm fans on it in a push pull configuration and ramping them up. I put everything back to stock at 5.9 and 4.5 on the cores to just run it cooler and I'm getting good temps and no crashes, and the FPS are around 450 at 1440P. I'm Happy I made the purchase. Love the channel, keep it coming.

My 14900KS boosts to 6.2ghz out of the box is that not what it does for everyone? The only thing I've touched in the bios is the XMP and fan curves. The Gigabyte Aorus Z790 Pro X defaults to the Extreme profile. I even flashed the July BIOS update and applied defaults, previous bios was the 2023 version. I've never had any crashes in any games and it's been incredibly stable. I have a 360mm AIO and I'm sitting at 55-60c in Dragon's Dogma 2. I feel like I'm doing something wrong or not actually boosting or pushing the CPU to the limits like everyone else that has stability issues. I bought this CPU for fun and it's kind of boring, it just works. For now anyways.

Ive been using GSKILL 32gb 8000mhz kit with both my previous 13900KS, and 14900KS on XMP and they are both 24 hr karhu stable. This is of course with a arctic freezer III 420 AIO on a Z790 apex encore mobo. The 14900KS seems to have fluctuations with voltages between BIOS versions, ive found 1002 to be the most consistent and "less" power hungry. Your paying for around 200mhz more in a stock configuration. CoD runs beautifully. Yes the 14900KS is slightly better than the 13900KS, its the top of the top. I will point out though, the ASUS BIOS versions make a HUGEEEEEE difference on the new 14900KS.

Being content and being competitive are not synonymous nor are they separate. They can mingle and mix...and also exist individual to one another.
The exact inverse of this logic is how you are able to type this comment, on the internet. when you did. Competition and cooperation.
If everyone settled for second, third or worse and finished their drive and determination there we likely would still be riding on horseback. We also wouldn't have base clock speed averages on most processors of around 4-5ghz.
Competition and determination are innate human character traits, almost inseparable, that encourage, not only the drive to win, but develop eventually into cooperation and innovation uniting individual creative function with societal cooperation.
Pushing for first place is a good thing.

I guess the only difference is it doesn’t void the warranty to de-lid it. Which kind of makes me wonder why they weren’t shipped with no IHS for direct die cooling, which is pretty much a must to get any gains over the average 14900k, I mean you had one there with SP106, I think a 14900k with SP of 115 would be better, maybe they are all binned above 105, which is not that rare in the non KS.

My 14900KS is running perfectly fine on an AIO. Stock out of the box with the P-cores all set at 5.9 and the E-cores set at 4.5 and just enabled XMP. Core Voltage is 1.35 and the temps are in the mid to low 70s. I played 4 different COD games and never crashed. I dont know why all these Tech heads want to slam this chip. I had a 13900K before and this chip beats it hands down. The 14th Gen runs more efficient and I could only get my 13900K to run stable at 5.5 to 5.6 and it would crash quite often. I can get even more out of it on the AI overclock tool in the bios. Up to 6.2 on 3 cores but the voltage and temps go up to much and it just gets to hot and its not worth the hassle so Im leaving it at 5.9 all P cores.

I went through 5 14900k samples trying to get an above average one. Most were actually bad, but got annoyed and settled the on the most average one I had.
With the KS releasing, I figured I'd just go with that to get a better binned 14900k. Popped it in with the same bios setup and undervolt as my 14900k, and it immediately crashed when put under any load. Messing around with it to get the same temps as my 14900k, it actually performs worse. The IMC is worse, and the E cores are worse. P cores are slightly better, though.
So, now I'm wondering what exactly makes a KS a KS? What I'd different about it for it to get that designations? Does it just have to have like 1% better than average P cores or something? From what I can tell from using it, it is LITERALLY just a 14900k they slapped and "S" on the end of. I have no clue how they decide if it's a K or KS, or what actual difference there is, other than being overclocked/overvolted out of the box. Well, MORE so than the 14900k, at least. I can take my 14900k, and change the clock speeds and voltages, and have it perform identically to the KS. There's nothing offered you couldn't do with a 14900k. What's funny, is doing the "Asus AI overclock" my 14900k is actually FASTER than then KS out of the box.
Was considering returning/replacing, because I though maybe I just got a fucked up one or something, but IDK now.

I had gotten the 14900k on a great sale at Micro Center, but it was abysmally poor binned. Couldn't get either a G.Skill TZ5 48gb 8000MT or even a Dominator Titanium 7200 kit to run stable in XMP. Frustrated the hell outta me. The KS was released when I had 1 day left on my return window so I decided to return it and grab a KS. With the discount for using their Insider card, I paid around $100 extra. Unfortunately this chip isn't the best bining either. Only a SP99. But the scores are all better than the K I returned. Especially the IMC, 82 vs a pitiful 70. Still trying to get everything stable to handle the workload of gaming and streaming simultaneously. And the occasional art project or video editing.
Still, its been a frustrating build. My last build utilized the 11900k on the Z590 Apex mobo, and it took me a couple days to learn all the new settings and figured out how to get it running stable and relatively cool. Now there's even more to learn with 14th gen lol! Seems these chips are rather finicky with tuning.

HOW INTEL STOLE $285 from me? I bought an open box Core i9 from the largest vendor in the US and maybe the world. The CPU did not work so I sent it to Intel for warranty repair or replace because the model itself was less than a year old so it must be under warranty. Open box and demo units are treated like new by manufacturers regarding warranty. Intel told me that the CPU was not genuine and refused to return it. The vendor said they will refund me if I send the CPU back. Intel refused. So Intel, the crook, & the vendor profited and the victim paid the price.
Later I found out that CPU lids can be swapped as long as they are the same socket. So if you have a dead Celeron lid swapped with a new i9 lid, then return the dead Celeron for an i9 refund and keep the i9 CPU. That is a serious design flaw that Intel should pay for not the victims. Intel have not changed the flawed design on their latest models.

If you already have a 13900K there's no need to upgrade to 14900 KS... Also if you play in 4K the performance is the same as the 13900K because it's GPU bound. 14900 KS is for new builders.... Not to upgrade from a 13900K

You may have over tightened your cooler, the memory controller is super finicky to too much pressure. When I was overtorqued I couldn't even dream of posting 7200 XMP with my 14900K, could barely do 6000.

Not going to happen, monolithic dies are uh well they are dead. We are almost certainly at the end of the frequency supremacy era based on what we know about the upcoming platforms. Intel is going the chiplet route for 15th gen so the only monolithic cpu's are probably the "G" sku's from AMD. The current 9.125 MHz on liquid helium will probably hold strong unless they decide to give it another go but even then we are talking 9.250 GHz or so max. The 5 digit 10000 MHz is a pipe dream

I would highly recommend Gamer’s Nexus.
