Hopefully they keep the random encounters, i'm scared they take them out because there is a huge stigma on them these times.
I am picturing a Square Enix executive fuming from the nose and requesting something get removed or unpolished so Square can release a "more definitive" version in 2 years.
My dream one day of a definitive version is one that can be easily modded. Besides DQ3 on SNES

I hope NOT the drop rate of the Medals BOTH WITH and WITHOUT any thief class was pretty much NON existent so I hope those aren't n it the BOARD mini game over I hope IS in it keep Random battles intact and actually take USELESS jobs ie Warrior/Fighter and GIVE them their Dragon quest 6 or 7 skill set have the Jester/Goff off class learn that 1 skill that PUTS its users to sleep at the start of battle but REGENS their MP by 1 for EVERY step they take.
DQ3 is the most popular RPG game reference used in Japanese Anime culture. Its like the father icon of JRPG advernturing. This game can't possibly be canceled especially its so anticipate in Japan.

I’m really excited to see the concept art and to see if they add voice acting. All HD2D games have voice acting so I’m wondering if they do that !

A post-game dungeon where you get to “see how your bloodline goes”, and they’re HD-2D remakes of DQ 1 and 2.
That'd be a whole compilation trilogy. It'd be awesome but I doubt it. Maybe just the first game would at least be plausible.

I'm madly in love with the new HD-2D graphics style, I've always really loved 2D but when they add new generational improvements to 2D (like vibration, beautiful graphics, realistic trees and water), it makes rhe games look so much better. I'm glad games are not abandoning 2D style games, because they still work even now and is a lot of fun to play.
Scared me for a second when you mentioned the possibility of the game being cancelled, hopefully that won't happen. The team is probably working very hard on it and maybe they're even delaying it to make it the best game it can be. I wonder if they decided to add voice acting like in the Live A Live remake?
Chance of cancellation is 0.00%. I'm not even sure why he brought it up, except that the timeline of development is likely to extend to as far as 2024, even a potential 2025 release.
The biggest hurdle that SE has is the COVID19 work at home system. It's expanding game development by initially 2~3x, but now it's 5x or longer.
Live A Live given the team size, familiarity with the original (access as well), and familiarity with both Switch and the HD-2D set, should have been 6 months, maybe 8 at most for what was present if developed pre-COVID. It's a facelift with almost no add-on content (what is present is just copy-pasta boss rush with some added dialogue). If they took a year, it would have likely seen some more dramatic changes and added elements.
DQ12 is going on 5 years now with no visuals, and we did get some info, but it's not much, and there's no official Toriyama Logo art, just what we've seen so far, which could be the planned final version, but I don't think so.
So I suspect given development times and difficulty, and because SE and its various team members are so spread out (they have quite a few buildings and databases). That might be another core problem, especially debugging.
Consider the timeline for Bravely Default 2, which is half a game, and even had content removed that is on the box art and marketing. No rebuilding element even though they heavily hint at it because it's part of that franchise. Everything past Chapter 3 is less than barebones, so the bulk of the storyline is just not there. The balance is all over the place and completely off. They couldn't work in half the sidequests they clearly planned based on NPC discussions, and the card mini-game is super simplistic and barebones that doesn't really expand after Chapter 3 except for just new cards. The game also took 3x as long to develop as the first two, despite having less than 1/3 of the content (literally it's that sparse comparatively).
The other issue inherent is that SE isn't spending much at all, if anything, on smaller project promotion. Thus Treasures is only being handled by the really tiny DQ team in LA. I think they're like 5~6 people working in that office.
They mentioned I & II in that presentation if I remember correctly. They're likely working on all three even if they release at different times.
Hope this project does well, I would love to see IV, V, and VI done in this style too.

OR even a PORT of the DS remake OF DQ7 but on the PS4/PS5/Switch with the LIMIT removed on how many DLC/Self Made tablet dungeons you can own all at once.

How about a remake of DQ8 in DQ11 style? That's what I want or at least port/remaster it to modern consoles. Kind of disappointed they haven't done that yet. Can only play on ps2 & 3ds rip lol.
I wish more games went the HD 2D route, it makes it so the game ages so much better, basically making it timeless.
And you can make 2d look gorgeous, plus it can ran on basically everything.

I sure hope they're taking their sweet time with it, cause this is a remake you do NOT want to mess up, I want this to be the objectively best version of DQIII , I want to see the post game dungeons from the GBC and the medals as well, alongside an orchestral soundtrack and bam, best 2D-HD game ever made and one of the greatest RPGs ever made remade for the newer audience, Dragon Quest has never been thriving this much since the 90s
putting all these tiny details into the game like death animations and emotes and stuff previously unobtainable by the SNES generation of pixel art games, will definitively change the way these types of games are perceived. there's a lot of indie games using the pixel art style that are truely spectacular, but once THIS comes out, the bar will have been raised dramatically
For games as iconic as Dragon Quest III it's easy to disappoint fans and I think they want to get this right. There are a lot of remakes/remasters nowadays that are just kinda half assed, but I do trust them to get this right because I think they care.
of course I might set myself up for disappointment with this one......
I mean, the Live A Live remake looks and sounds amazing. So if that turned out so well, why not DQ3?
Squeenix could just rerelease every single DQ and FF game in 2DHD and they’d be getting my money every time. Chrono Trigger would be the cherry on top.

This is an IMPORTANT game for them so it's probably deep in the polish phase. They had a really great reveal so there is no need to show more or talk more about it until it's super close to release.

I hope it'll be the definitive version, with all the content across all the versions.
If it does well, maybe we'll get 1 and 2 in HD 2D as well. It could mirror the Game Boy releases with DQ3 standing on its own and 1 and 2 being together since they're smaller games.
I just wish we could get some bit of news. Hell, they still never said what platforms it'll be on (and God help them if it's not on the Switch). Just give us _something,_ please!
It is very likely coming to switch, square enix has always been pretty loyal to nintendo, and the switch should easily be able to run the remake. So i see no reason it wouldnt come to switch

Yes but I don't want it to BE SWITCH only but ALSO on the PS4 and PS5 version for both IT and for DQ12 and yes I also want the 12th game to go BACK to the Job class change systems that the 6th and 7th games had.
As great as this idea is, it would be even better if they did a Zenithia Trilogy HD release. The only way to play those now are on really old hardware, emulation, or mobile/NDS versions. Let us Zenithia on a home TV, legally, at modern resolutions! Where's Dragon Quest Pixel Perfect when we need it?

I think you nailed it with the Live A Live comparison -- it's very ambitious and they know it needs to be great. Hopefully with some extra post-game content!

Hoping they add "abilities" seems all modern dq remakes get abilities added, it would add alot to the game
Dragon Quest III on GBC was the first game in the series I played. I've been a huge fan of the franchise ever since, but naturally has a special place in my heart. Can't wait for this remake!
Now that they are done with the remake of Live a Live, I believe that Asano team is putting all the efforts on DQIII HD-2D.
They’re not making it. The DQ team is. I’m sure they are assisting of course. But I’m just guessing. DQ team makes the DQ games that’s like they’re whole thing ya know.

But yeah I think the reason we haven't gotten any info on the game is because of Triangle Strategy and Live A Live. I think they wanted those to get attention first since they were almost completed. With DQ Treasures releasing soon, they might want to wait till after that too.
I don't know about you guys but I'm so interested in the HD-2D games they're so beautiful, the music, the voice acting, the scenery everything is perfect, I loved Octopath Traveler can't wait for what Square-enix will give us in the future.
I think a 2023 release is correct. They're going to need a big Spring release for next year and I believe this is it.

It also helps that octopath traveler was a really good game
And had a demo available on top of being from the people who made Bravely Default. The groundwork for them being a respectable RPG team making solid work has been established.

I mean tbh, the DQ3 remake trailer actually has gameplay, I'm sure if DQ12 had more than just a logo in the trailer it would do better. Nonetheless hype for both.
I think that the HD2D games are made by one specific studio and they can only handle one of these titles at a time, and they released two this year, Triangle Strategy and Live A Live, and DQ3 just got put on the backburner.
But the good thing is that once they do finish DQ3, 1 and 2 should be really easy to finish shortly thereafter since they're both such short games.
Hoping to see it in the September Nintendo Direct and then again at Tokyo game show.

Excited to see dq content once again
Dragon Warrior III was one of my all time favorite games when I was a kid. I hope they're working diligently on it. This would be the most anticipated game of my lifetime for me.
It's not too surprising that more people are excited for DQ3R, to call the original game iconic is an understatement

If all they did was fix the Orochi fight cuz that was just an unfair difficulty spike, then this would be the best version by far.

weapon skills perhaps the skill point system some quality of life changes the nose for treasure ability etc etc and a rebuild skills system (like dq 11)
Final Fantasy VI needs the same treatment.

Dq3 is the most iconic DragonQuest next to 5 so it would make sense to savor the release before 12 to get new and old fans hyped for the newest installment
I was just wondering this after seeing the new DQX Offline trailers, as well as the Adventure of Dai game. Excited for Treasures as well.
Honestly I am fine with them taking there sweet time with it, just look at all those games that was made on a crunch. But I would like something to show that they are working on it. Maybe some confirmations that it's still being worked on even if they don't have an released date yet.

With octopath traveller 2 coming out early next year they are probably not going to release any information about the dq3 remake until Octopath travelers' 2 releases

Your Story makes my wonder if DQV is ever gonna get a current-gen remake.
I think the reason its taking so long is they may, be building out the engine and designs so this can be used to make more hd 2d remakes alot of dq assets are reused between games, similar to how they did dq 4-6 on ds
Just found out this exists (er, is expected to exist) so hopefully I won't be waiting as long as some of you have been waiting. The graphics look gorgeous! I never thought I'd play this game again but if it looks like this, I might!

They just announced the platforms (all current) for it, but no release date. People are saying its ready though. They should put a Toriyama memorial on the front screens. 😿
Definitely been quiet on that front(It puts Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's news cycle to shame).
As for things I'd like to see added in the game:
1. Some equipment rebalancing along with some new additions. For example: The bronze shield early on could be reworked(Made into a buckler of sorts) as a better early shield for mages and martial artists. Since it's not a buyable option until Romaria, this would at least give a bit of purpose(Admittedly, this is more a side effect of the remakes, where scale shields are sold in the next town).
2. There are things in the game that could be made into side quests of sorts, like the injured guy in Aliahan and the dancing troupe in Asham. It would help add different things to do and give you some rewards on the side.
3. Some extra buyable healing items, like Amor Seco Essence.
4. It would also be pretty neat if they added a single party member only dungeon that you could explore starting early in the game. It would open up new floors as you progress through the story(Like in Lufia).
5. TnT tracks please! Those were really nice.
That's primarily what I could think of. Of course, I don't necessarily expect these to happen(Except maybe 5. 1 and 3 aren't impossible, though); but it would be cool if they did.
Every video SE releases, I'm asking there about this game. I was about to play a emulated when they annouced it. More than a year I'm waiting to play it for the first time.
