Removing the inner clutch cover and replacing a broken kickstarter spring. General procedure for 2009 and later KTM 50 SX. 2013 and later will have the disc clutch.
I wish you had more repair videos! Very through. Gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to repair my sons broken kickstart shaft. I have it halfway done… all taken apart, just waiting on parts to put it back together. Which I’m very confident I’ll be able to do thanks to your video!
Thank you so much for this video! Fantastic step by step instruction and camera work. This video is exactly what I was looking for. Keep up the great work.
on a 2015 u dont need to remove the clutch there is just enough room to get it on the spring and twist and lock under the clutch so no spring out at you.. excellent vid though has to be the best one on youtube.
A great video, I think I have broken teeth or something wrong with kick start… it skips a bit… this will help me get in and out and sealed up again… thanks
They often feel like there are teeth stripped, I always just push gently on the lever till I feel positive engagement and then from there give it a swift push to start the bike. Little kids are not good at this though. It is possible that the teeth are stripped, it happens. You’d have to pull the cover to be sure.
My sons kick start get stuck all the way down and sometimes it the up position. I then have to mess with it yo free it. When it does kick over the kick start lever comes back on it's own. Any suggestions why it sticks sometimes?
Sort of tangential, but can the main seal underneath the clutch be removed from that side without splitting the cases? I see a keeper plate with two Torx screws in it... remove those and use a pick?
Underneath that keeper is a bearing, not a seal. You’d need to split the cases if you need to remove bearings. If you’re talking about the crank seal, it’s under the gear that is between the clutch and the kick start idler. You need a gear jammer tool (motion pro makes one) to hold that gear against the clutch so the crank doesn’t turn. You can use an impact to remove the gear but please do NOT use an impact to put the nut back on. Too much torque makes your life miserable next time and can throw the crank off. Under that main gear is the crank seal and it can be removed with a seal puller. Be very careful not to scratch the crank shaft or the sides of the case when removing. When installing a new one don’t go deeper than flush with the case or you’ll block the little holes that allow the fuel/oil to lubricate the main bearings
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me I have a 09 mini sx and when it idels it makes a shocking crunching noise the guy I brought it off reckons it’s the kick start gears? Not sure if anyone has had this issue
Hey bro. I changed the top end and my kick has no compression. I’m curious if that’s because the kick start is loose/broken on the inside. Does that sound like the symptoms?
When you say no compression- do you mean the kickstarter has no resistance at all? If you’re really uncertain as to whether it’s the spring or an actual lack of compression in the cylinder, take the spark plug out and see how it feels. Also If it’s the spring the kick starter will not return to it’s starting position after you push it down.
@@Dave-xe4tf I hooked up a impact with a socket to the magneto and it seemed to have compression on that side. It had spark and seemed to have compression on that side; but with the kick start it literally has no resistance and I could kinda hear a “poof” sound with the kickstand every couple kicks with the spark plug off as if it’s still moving the crank/piston.
The kick start does return to its starting position every time though =\. I have a pro senior with a 39.5 piston it’s the biggest piston they make for that bike and I highly highly doubt it has been bored to a bigger size and I tore it down a few times to make sure my wiseco piston was installed correctly and was the same size as the old one. It’s driving me crazy dude.

Best video on working with inner cover and kick mechanisms!!! Thank you

Thank you so much for the video! This worked like a charm on a 2019 TC50.

Don't have to remove clutch. Use the kick-starter as a lever to rotate the shaft to get the spring in place. It'll pop in!
This is the best vid I have seen. Cheers heaps for it mate. Helped out a heap
Awesome video! Can you change the kick starter seal with the cover on or do you have to remove it?

How did you get the clutch basket off? mine is stuck on?

I’m having the same problem but I haven’t gotten mine to turn over

Is that the way to fix it on any year KTM
Do you have a part number for that clutch?
