      @@olivia-performanceartist3693 Because my family and the Spencer have been friends for generations. I have photos of myself on Diana's lap or playing with her and our dogs. Because my mother and Charles Spencer are still very much friends and meet regularly. Because Harry and I are acquaintances and both him and Meghan have stayed at my place in Switzerland, just like Diana used to stay at one of my grandmother's estates in France.
      Because when you get to know Diana's true friends or family members, you also get to hear a few stories about her.
      I am most certainly not denigrating Diana, and, as i wrote, she was a good person and nobody can contradict this but she was advised to pick up a "hobby" to create a certain public persona and she chose humanitarian work mixed with ultra glamorous lifestyle. It was a perfect match, it made her immensely popular. She was a sort of supermodel millionaire mother theresa and for the 80s and 90s there was nothing more appealing than this lifestyle she had. It was really straight out of an american 80s sitcom.
      She did it to exist as an individual rather than as Charles wife when she realized that her marriage was a scheme. She refused to be the princess housewife so she had an army of advisers and PR reps helping her create the Queen of heart persona.
      It was really just for show.
      She sure helped a lot of people and her fundraising helped many children, aids patients, etc, ... and for that she must be remembered and appreciated.
      But the holding of the black starving kids in africa or the handshaking with the aids patients was really for the camera and the mediatic impact. Don't be fooled. Right after that it was hand sanitizing , a shower putting on a 400 000 pounds haute couture gown and partying the night away with millionaires and billionaires at very private and elitist social events.
      She never got dirty to dig a well in somalia with a shovel, or build an orphanage. She paid people to do it and made sure to attach her name to the cause.
      That's not exactly the same as doing it yourself.

      What?
      If you believe Charles was ignoring Diana then open your eyes.
      The video starts with him talking to Diana about the small windows on the airplane.
      ~~~~~••
      Part of what I find hard to understand is so many of Diana's fans think she was supposed to be the center of attention (Like Barbie doll, Ken doll is the accessory). Charles is not a Ken doll. He was supposed to be the bigger celebrity and she was expected to be the supportive wife.
      Compare how supportive Kate Middleton is to William with how Diana interacted with Charles and the public. By 1986 Diana was competing with Charles for public attention.
      @@karlamccullough8614 Look how supportive William is towards Kate and how hurtful Charles was towards Diana. Charles left Diana alone during their honeymoon, he closed himself into a room on their boat and spent the time reading some books. In the first interview as a married couple his answer to the question, if they were in love, was: "whatever love means", while Diana immediately answered "of course"... Remember their wedding was known as a fairy tale to the public eye and this was his reaction. The palace had chosen her to make him look better.
      @@thistime3889 not 100% accurate. His comment "what ever love means" was from the interview just after they announced the engagement, February 1981.
      ~~~~~~~
      It was an arranged marriage. During the 1970s Charles had dated over 30 potential brides, including Diana's sister Sarah. He proposed to two and was turned down. They were running out of options to find a bride that met or came close to the royal family marriage criteria. Diana met the criteria. Charles didn't pick Diana. The queen mother and Diana's family arranged the 1980 meeting and the 1981 wedding.
      Diana knew it was an arranged marriage, she knew Charles didn't love her, he told her he didn't love her before they married, not to hurt her but to help her understand what she was getting into.
      ~~~~~~
      There were noticeable clues he didn't love her. When Charles proposed and Diana said yes, Charles didn't act happy, didn't show affection, instead he phoned his mother and said something like "She said yes, the deed is done."
      I watched the wedding in 1981, I knew he didn't love her.
      They didn't know each other before the wedding, they had met 12 or 13 times. They had different expectations. I believe Diana was in love with her fantasy of Charles, she was expecting him to be her fantasy prince charming of her dreams. Charles is not prince charming, he's stoic.
      ~~~~~
      The honeymoon was a disaster. Diana was
      overwhelming by the wedding and the media attention. She was binge eating and purging multiple times a day on the honeymoon. Not exactly an afridishiac.
      They went on a 14 day cruise on the royal yacht and then spent time at Balmoral castle in the Scottish country side.
      Charles had expected a relaxing vacation to get to know each other. He brought books to read and his art supplies. Diana expected his full attention and she became angry. Charles is an introvert, he needs time alone, his childhood was extremely dysfunctional. He hoped she would be interested in his hobbies. He was never capable of fulfilling all her emotional needs and deal with her self destructive behaviors. She was extremely emotionally needy. Diana was so angry she destroyed his art work and tossed out his art supplies. She hated the cruise, hated the Scottish country side, and hated his books. Charles is a college graduate with intellectual interests. Diana dropped out of school at age 16, she read romance novels. They didn't have any common interests.

      @@c.c.6930 Diana should have and could have refused the engagement.
      Diana knew it was an arranged marriage and she knew Charles didn't love her. She decided to marry him. She had unrealistic expectations and was disappointed, became angry, combative and competitive for public attention. They were not compatible. Both were from dysfunctional families and unhappy childhoods. Both didn't meet each other's needs. Both were miserable by 1986.

    Diana is the ultimate beauty, and I can’t imagine what she would’ve thought of today’s unattainable (for most people anyway) beauty standards that are immersed in plastic surgery etc🤷🏻‍♀️. I can’t be 100% certain obviously, but I’m fairly sure, especially considering how beautiful she was not only outside, but especially inside, and didn’t have plastic surgery, that she’d be so disappointed in the shallowness of it all. I just don’t think as much as she was admired for her beauty that she really obsessed about that aspect of herself. Her heart really just made her a dream, literally like an angel on earth, just too good for what she was put through ❤😢

    I think this is an unfortunate case of 2 people who had different aims and needed support in different ways. I can understand that Charles needed a certain support to carry out the work he was tasked with, not someone to upstage or overshadow him. Diana was just not mature enough at that time. And, Diana needed love. But, she was no dummy and I believe she knew very well how to manipulate her popularity. It’s a shame they couldn’t have met at a different time or that Camilla couldn’t have been more available when he was ready to marry. This was just a total mismatch.
