I am one of those who sewed for myself. Even when I had the money to buy as nice as I wanted, nothing on the rack appealed to me and it never fit right! When I took my first fitting class in sewing, our instructor said after this class, we would never buy off the rack again. She was right. Back in those days, I sewed almost all of my clothing. I picked fabric and colors that I loved and styles that showed off my nice figure with my long waist and usually sewed things with real waistlines. I loved wide belts! I never went out that I did not get compliments from people which was very nice. Frankly, I am now thicker through the middle, many pounds heavier, and in my seventies as well as my life style changed, but there is a big part of me that misses those beautiful clothes and the wonderful satisfaction of how well they fit and how good they looked. The rare times I go clothes shopping now, I am soooo disappointed at the choices. I'd rather re-wear the same things. I really do admire those who find styles and colors that look good on them and wear them well (and even often). No one must spend huge amounts of money on clothes to look good - one must, however, choose carefully.
I have developed allergies to a lot of material - I can only wear cotton. I wish I could sew - but I really didn't like using a sewing machine in a family where my momma, little sister and Grandmother used an electric sewing machine and Nanny used a treadle machine back in the 1970s'. My folks even bought a pattern and fabric of my choice and I paid my little sister to make it! Momma made my wedding dress. I have found some cotton skirts with matching sweaters and I have about 8 blouses and some sweaters with multiple colors to coordinates. I have several pairs of jeans and some t-shirts. I have a small selection of shoes and sandals that work too. I pore over the internet for choices. Luckily I don't work anymore - I needed suits as a Sales Asst to a stock broker. I love Princess Diana's clothing - I used to think she was like a living Barbie!
@@amypagekaviani5661 I am so sorry about the allergies. It is so difficult to find pure cotton clothing now. I sewed partly out of necessity and, in the early years of my marriage, repurposed a lot of things others gave me. I had a sheath dress made from a cafe curtain my MIL gave me - it looked better on me than the window. Much more recently, our garden club requested we all wear hats at a spring meeting but with flowers. I had no flowered hat but found a flat sheet at a thrift store that was beautiful and made a sun hat. It was funny because I received so many compliments on it. One member said she used to have sheets like that - I told her it might be one of her sheets! Though I like buying new fabric, I also enjoyed the challenge of making over something else into something entirely different. Well into my marriage, I was able to buy a Viking 6030 sewing machine - anyone who has had one will tell you that was top of the line. That was 1974 and it is still going strong! There have been literally thousands of miles of thread go through that machine through the years. We all have our interests and talents. It's good I can sew because I cannot sing a bit, play a musical instrument, and cannot paint or even draw. Some times it takes a while to find our special talent but we all have them if we give it a chance. Frankly, buying clothes and compiling a good wardrobe is a huge talent itself. I loved the dresses, etc., that Carol Burnett wore on her variety show at the opening - so beautiful and so many different styles.
@@amypagekaviani5661 She certainly had a lot of beautiful clothes! Often, I wished I could have sewn some like that but then where would I wear them?!! I absolutely loved Loretta Young's entrances in her shows, and Carol Burnett gave her real competition! Bob Mackie was a genius without compare.
Back in the mid/late 1970s and even into the ‘80s, fine women’s suit came in four pieces: skirt, pants, vest, and jacket. So many opportunities to mix and match!
Petite Sophicate/Casual Corner made basic black, navy blue and gray suit sets. I went back 5 or even 10 years later and bought pants or a jacket to replace the worn out cloths or to up date the style. Like cuffed pants to non cuffed pants. The new pants or jacket would color match the old suit perfectly! Almost all the pants were lined too. 90% of my office cloths came from that store. Very nice well made cloths for a reasonable price. Also all the cloths were sized the same. My husband bought me many outfits for presents and they all fit perfect.
Up to today in the UK a suit for a woman can be either a skirt and jacket or jacket and trousers pants\knickers are worn underneath !trousers or skirt ,we don't refer to trousers as knickers
Anne actually wears clothes she’s had since the 1970s, she can still get into them! However, it’s fair to say while always appropriately dressed, she has never been a clothes horse, just a superb horsewoman.
I saw two pictures of her wearing an outfit in the 1970's and then either in the late 90's or sometime in the 2000's, and I don't know if she had it altered, but, it still fit!! I was really surprised, too.
About that commoner word. In England anyone without a title is a commoner. When her father took the royal title he inherited, she became Lady Diana Spencer. That work drives all of us English/Americans right up the wall.
In high school my sister had to routinely steal my clothes because she had a group of friends who would be brutal about being an outfit repeater. It’s actually just called a wardrobe. You’re supposed to
Princess Diana made everything look good. Even the 80’s era 🤣 I saw an exhibit of her clothing about 9 years ago on the Queen Mary. It was amazing 🤩 We were not allowed to take pictures so I can’t share anything. Many of the things she wore are timeless.
She just rewears them. She isn’t the slightest bit interested in clothes. It’s amazing that she keeps them and can still get into them, even if they let them out slightly, very few people can wear at 70 what they wore at 25.
An aristocratic family that was wealthy and older and more noble than the Windsors! Diana mingled with royals from an early age on, her grandmother was a lady in waiting to the queen`s mother and to queen Elizabeth as well their friend and confidant.
The repeated mispronunciation of words by the narrator (as well as proper nouns) and incorrect use of titles/maiden names was distracting and unprofessional.
The red polka dot dress she wore in Japan, I have a personal story to share: my family lived in the UK 1985-1989, my Dad was a Canadian diplomat. Before Diana went to Japan she was also going to Canada and she and Prince Charles were invited to dinner at the High Commission and my Dad sat beside her. He said she was drop dead gorgeous in person, but had no idea if she was going to China or Japan. She told my Dad that she had a dress to match “the Chinese flag”. Dad gently corrected her that the leg of their trip after Canada was to Japan, and she laughed and said she was hopeless at geography.

Outfits should be re-worn - especially outfits costing thousands of pounds a time. Although I did read that Diana did send her old clothes to charity shops, before cutting out the labels. I thought Diana's look in the early 80's was over the top. Her wedding dress was way too fussy (I preferred the toned down version in The Crown). Her style did improve in the 90's and her Catherine Walker clothes were lovely.
She was a real princess imo and everything she did made us all proud she was our princess. Re-wearing expensive clothes shows she had a conscience about how much of the publics money she saved while none of the other family members gave a hoot!
It doesn't matter about clothing but her heart and what Diana has done to the Royal family and the world wide is good and amazing. The world love Diana Spencer.
Wonderful review! Thanks for showing us how she made changes to her beautiful clothing to give them a new life. Remember, she was married to Charles who is a Penny pincher so one must wonder if remaking these outfits were her choice or at Charles insistence to save money?
She had exelente taste , everything she wore was with confidence , with that she show who she was . And how she really looks . Diana was only ONE and one only
I have been amazed to see the Princess Royal also re-wear/recycle outfits. I'm so envious that she's been able to wear the same size for nearly 45 years, as evidenced by an old dress being worn at Ascot recently - and it was from the late 1970s I think.
Diana was effortlessly chic and stylish in all she wore and how she wore it. Theres no need to keep mentioning the 80s, as she was en pointe with what she wore then.
Women's suits used to come with both a matching skirt and a pair of matching trousers, very much the way men's suits used to come with two pairs of pants. It made the suit more versatile, so one technically got more wearings out of it. Back in the day, a woman just starting out in professional life, and not yet having a full professional wardrobe, could get by with two such suits that coordinated in style and colors, so all the pieces could be mixed/matched, and 6-10 professional shirts/tops that worked with both suits. It was kind of the birth of the capsule wardrobe, and women were advised by "image consultants" not to add anything to the capsule that could not be worn with at least three items she already owned.
I remember that moment. So tragic. The same week, Mother Teresa died, so we lost two of the most famous and iconic women of that era at the same moment. Still love looking at pictures of Princess Diana and her amazing way of dressing.
You are incorrect in your statement that Lady Diana Spencer, later Diana, Princess of Wales, was not a “royal”. Actually, her father was a Viscount, later an Earl; a viscount in the 4th rank of royalty.
Sorry, but that is not royalty, that is rank. The only royals are kings, queens, princes, princesses, dukes and duchesses. That's where royalty ends. Aristocracy is titled rank under dukes. So Diana was an aristocrat, not a royal. Nor was her father, the earl.
Diana wore some of her clothes twice! That really is AMAZING! Charles has been wearing the same grey morning suit and the same tan overcoat for as long as I can remember........
Voluminous is not pronounced “VOL-yoo-muss” (three syllables) but rather “vuh-LOO-mih-nuss” (four syllables because of the “i” in the middle). And, Cannes is not pronounced “cans” but rather “kahn.”

Wearing an item more than once is not 'recycling', even for a royal. This has happened for years and I so enjoyed your video. Difference is they have access to tailors and stylists who can make the best use of those Royal resources.
The now HRH Queen Consort Diana was classy and beautiful in everything. Camilla the side piece still can’t hold a candle to the magnificence and elegance of Queen Diana.
The red hounds tooth outfit comparison at 9:10 - it is not Diana on the left, it is the Duchess of Cambridge. She was not part of the Royal family until after Diana's death.
YAWN...even Diana's going away outfit for her wedding had future engagements in mind. She had two tops made...one long sleeved and the short sleeved one she wore after the wedding. Kate has worn at least ONE of Diana's suits, redyed. ER II was reported in one biography as being a frugal fashionista by sending a dress with a bad stain on it back to the designer to have a fabric panel replaced. Since designers hold on to the specially dyed fabrics ordered for the royals and their bespoke clothing, this was easily done.
Wow! I had never heard about Kate wearing one of Diana's suits!!!! Do you know which one? I did google and didn't find any info. I thought I heard via the TV that Kate wore one of Diana's hats.
@@amypagekaviani5661 it was the yellow/orange/tangerine wool suit Diana had worn with a black turtleneck and black tights. I've seen that suit in all three colors, so it may have been dyed.
Nothing wrong with being frugal. Goes to show that a little bit of swopping around and changing a few accessories goes a long way. And who honestly even noticed up until now. Clever lady!
I thought this video was about how Princess Diana rewore/freshened up previously worn clothing items to look new, not a video about clothes looking dated and hurting their eyes.
Kate has a similar character too Diana. She is genuine, classy, beautiful, sincere and didn’t expect the world to like her just because of who her husband is. I always liked Diana and felt sad when she passed. She was authentic to herself, even when she was trying to be what the royals wanted, her personality always shined because she is authentic.
So young, so pretty, and so sad. She should have been doing a gap year with her girlfriends, going on dates with men who didn’t love someone else, hosting garden parties at Althorpe with her older sisters, getting counseling and growing up enough to know that Charles treated her poorly while they were still engaged. For those of us who have daughters, remember what they were like the year they graduated from high school. This poor child had the weight of the world on her shoulders. I can imagine how much happier she would have been with another aristocrat or royal who loved and supported her. Love is really what we all want, no matter how we dress it up. Luckily Kate had a family looking out for her, a father who laid down the lines with William before he gave permission, and a good 10 years more life experience than Diana. The queen and prince Philip dropped the ball on this one.
@Anne Walden Probably thought in his arrogance that she SHOULD be happy & contented with the glamorous life he was offering her instead of her previous very ordinary life as a nanny.
@@sharonchu7830 Thank you for the suggestion. I wear linen but it is pricey. I live in Virginia and need winter clothing too.
@@GlennaVan I used to think Carol Burnett was like a real life Barbie with all her pretty clothing at the beginning of her show!
Mix and match outfits are practical, you can do so many styles.
Meanwhile....Charles can wear the same three suits in rotation for 40 years.....
Love it!
Who cares about what Charles wears, lol.
Brilliant observation! 😂🤣😆
@@juliesprik9479 Who cares about Prince Charles in general lol
And nobody cares!
Hey, before Kate and Diana, Princess Anne recycled her clothes like crazy!🤦♀️
Anne is practical, but not fashionable. She reuses old clothes, she had stayed the same size so she reuses them. Some were ugly the first time.
Her clothes were as stunning as she was. Not outrageous or outdated.
Fashion is intuitive and fun…that’s why Diana was so amazing at it
Back in the mid/late 1970s and even into the ‘80s, fine women’s suit came in four pieces: skirt, pants, vest, and jacket. So many opportunities to mix and match!
Hello how are you doing 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I wish they can do that again !!
Yup, I had some. Crepe suits, skirt, jacket with shoulder pads, pants and one even had a long evening skirt to go with it. Ahhh...sighhh.
Up to today in the UK a suit for a woman can be either a skirt and jacket or jacket and trousers pants\knickers are worn underneath !trousers or skirt ,we don't refer to trousers as knickers
If you want to see a Royal who restyles and recycle clothes look at Princess Anne
Anne actually wears clothes she’s had since the 1970s, she can still get into them! However, it’s fair to say while always appropriately dressed, she has never been a clothes horse, just a superb horsewoman.
I think the Queen wears the same outfit every day, they just dyed it a different shade.
True but it's more like a uniform rather something stylish.
Princess Anne does this a lot too. Some of her clothes are recycled from the 1970s to the 1990s.
She just rewears them. She isn’t the slightest bit interested in clothes. It’s amazing that she keeps them and can still get into them, even if they let them out slightly, very few people can wear at 70 what they wore at 25.
The girl and Woman was not only beautiful But had ‘Style’ that No one will ever be able to be emulated
Any thing she wore , she made it look beautiful ❤
Even a baseball cap. Never see Queen Camilla in one.
Omg it's not like Diana was a poor commoner. She was part of an aristocratic family
extremely
Truee
An aristocratic family that was wealthy and older and more noble than the Windsors! Diana mingled with royals from an early age on, her grandmother was a lady in waiting to the queen`s mother and to queen Elizabeth as well their friend and confidant.
That doesn't mean she had to be wasteful of decent designer clothes.
@@faithyoung441 you have missed my point. I am pointing out that some media and some youtube channels constantly erase her aristocratic upbring,
The repeated mispronunciation of words by the narrator (as well as proper nouns) and incorrect use of titles/maiden names was distracting and unprofessional.
YES IT IS!!!
Fun seeing how Diana changes her wardrobe
Changes ?? Changed
@Sandra Delvoie What a great story! Thanks for sharing it!

The Japanese ensemble had a wonderful structured drape at the waist, clearly an homage to the gorgeously precise folds of the obi.
I love bubble skirts/dresses. Bring this trend back!
I love love the fact that they are re wearing their pieces! It encourages good habits and mentality🙌🏻
Step one... be Princess Diana and you’ll look amazing in anything
She was a real princess imo and everything she did made us all proud she was our princess. Re-wearing expensive clothes shows she had a conscience about how much of the publics money she saved while none of the other family members gave a hoot!
Always on yachts saving money. People like that don't save money they never had to.
She was beautiful, elegant and chic 💖
It doesn't matter about clothing but her heart and what Diana has done to the Royal family and the world wide is good and amazing.
The world love Diana Spencer.
Usually on the pictures you are showing, Diana has had the outfit redesigned, expensive option even for someone who wears couture all the time
Wonderful review!
She was such a classic beauty
And tall! Which always helps when wearing couture.
It is a easier to become a fashion icon when you have a personal dresser who helps you design your look but she did have final say in what she wore.
Yes plus loads of money!!!
The dresser doesn't design it. Paul burrel's wife was her dresser.
That black and white polka dot dress will always be in trend. I'd wear it in a minute.
The beaded gown with the lavender straight skirt is timeless and my favourite...
I will always remember Princess Diana that's the most beautiful woman. I am so sad at how she died.
Diana was real princess! In her was royal brightness.
Loved Diana still do
Voluminous is not pronounced “VOL-yoo-muss” (three syllables) but rather “vuh-LOO-mih-nuss” (four syllables because of the “i” in the middle).
And, Cannes is not pronounced “cans” but rather “kahn.”
👍👍👍
I'm glad you pointed this out, ButEveryoneKnewHerAsNancy. The narrator's voice was also incredibly annoying, as well.
Actually, it's pronounced "Can".
Your first example is 3 syllables not 2. And the 2nd is 4 not 3.

Diana did grow up as an aristocrat, not a commoner.
Fun Fact: Anyone who is not royal is a commoner.
She was not royal but she was born into aristocrat family not a commoner.
@@carolinedevorahstephen7435 I understand that she was an aristocrat, but the only people in the UK who are not commoners are Peers of the Realm (not their children) and the Sovereign.
Exactly!
Wearing an item more than once is not 'recycling', even for a royal. This has happened for years and I so enjoyed your video. Difference is they have access to tailors and stylists who can make the best use of those Royal resources.
Diana always looked beautiful.
She was awesome and stunning gorgeous
Absolutely stunning, practical, and amazing.
The now HRH Queen Consort Diana was classy and beautiful in everything. Camilla the side piece still can’t hold a candle to the magnificence and elegance of Queen Diana.
Prince Diana was very beautiful with beautiful shape. Even if she wear $20 dress , she was gorgeous more than the women’s in Hollywood.

Diana, Princess of Wales. Fabulous. Loved her.
She looked stunning in white. It was the 1980s, think had to be there. Still love the houndstooth suit. Looked stunning on her.
In the 80 the clothing came with a lot of pieces & there was a lot to mix & match & even the 90 had a little more options! Clothes went a lot father!
Please do not use the “word” authentic. It’s the woke word Harry’s wife uses on herself. Diana was genuine, true to herself. Not a woke Princess.

She and Charles look miserable in every pic they are together.
@Anne Walden Probably thought in his arrogance that she SHOULD be happy & contented with the glamorous life he was offering her instead of her previous very ordinary life as a nanny. Unfortunately she wanted more. Who knows, he may have also promised her things or embellished them as too often men do, only to conveniemtly "forget" he ever said them.
I've seen pictures of them very happy in each other's company.
Does anyone else find it strange to say that famous people "recycle" clothes when all they're doing is wearing something they own more than once?
