  • When I worked with Steve Jobs at NeXT, he would hire misfits who thought differently. I was one of them, an earth scientist among software and hardware engineers. Now I understand why he did it. Co-founded four successful companies: PSI (geophysics), Fatbrain.com (which went public on the NASDAQ), SmugMug, and now Cake.co. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

That was the hardest talk I've ever given, but worth it. I have so much newfound respect for TED & TEDx speakers and all the preparation and passion that goes behind those talks.

As a psychologist I have known many who have had similar backgrounds and have worked hard to gain their success by finding what makes them unique. You explained it so well. I hope others are able to gain inspiration from you sharing your remarkable life. I had no idea. AK Bear.

The details of our stories are different, but the sentiment is similar. I just haven’t figured out how to turn my story into my superpower (yet). Congratulations on your success!

Wow, what a story Chris. It touches me all the more that I suffered from severe depression when I had my kid and suffered it for years. Now I am out of mental illness and I am a strong full support to my son. Glad my depression did not stain my son psychic.
You on the other hand are a survivor of very unfortunate family mental unbalance that did not get resolved. Kudos to you for where you are today.

What a story! To me, it's a testament to the power of education, and how each of us shows up in life in part as a product of our past. We rarely hear someone's back story. Thanks for sharing yours.

Wow Baldy what a inspirational person you are. I knew you had something special about you that just draws a person in. You have no idea how cool it was to ride with you @ CADVR a few years back. I was really drawn to you and your style. You are truly a gem to the world! I can only imagine how many people your words of wisdom and inspiration has brought back from the dark side. I can only hope to see you and talk in person again. You are a true friend to the masses.

I’m sure you have done many important works over time, but I think Plant Chompers is fulfilling your highest service to the world.
In the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna of 3 Yogas: Karma Yoga, selfless action, Bhakti Yoga, devotion and gratitude, and Jnana Yoga, the path of Self Knowledge.
You know yourself very well and fulfill each yoga in an integral manner as a
    Jnanavatar
    Jai!

17:00 "well whatever" indeed. Being specific about the color and angle of the desk to match the logo and hardware sounds like it came out of a cartoon of Steve Jobs. Hard to imagine how that kind of request felt before you knew what Apple would become.

I came to this site after great difficulty in finding out your full name, after watching couple of plant-based news videos - about differences in diet & can they all be right or who is wrong. I have been eating vegan keto for couple of years, finding it is working for me as a borderline diabetic. But you are making me rethink. This talk was such a surprise to me. As I commented earlier, completely riveting! Oh yes, I am most curious about your 'plant-based' 'plant-chopper' story - would love to hear that - were you influenced by Steve Jobs?
