while this video does an OK job covering the basics of the fight, I was hoping for better techniques... most of the video footage in this guide is of Dave taking damage not avoiding it. You say stay "low under the glove" then show footage of you not doing that and getting hit.

You can stand under its belly, in the open space while it is punching. You will be safe there. After the charge punch, it will have its gloves down and you have enough time to dive up its eyes and shoot at least once. Dive under him again. Do this 2 or 3 times (I think?) until fase 2. In fase 2, when its doing the tamper tantrum before the charge attack, swim fast with dash to the chain and pull the chain down [b]with dash[/b]. I see in your video you tried to pull down with normal swim, but this will not put the dumbell high enough to have the mantis hit it. Fast/dash swim will do it. After the mantis is stunned, you can probably shoot 3 times before he wakes up again. Rince and repeat.
Personally found this to be fairly easy by equipping a sniper rifle (upgraded if possible) and both the octopus bracelet (allows a short dash) and the octopus weapon charm (+15% gun damage) … … then all you need to do is quickly dash to avoid his punches before a few shots in the eyes and you’ll have finished him off in two or three salvos. You’ve also got two oxygen cans should your health drop too low but only use these if absolutely necessary and, like me, you’ll probably have killed him before such a necessity arises!

I wanted to explain what I learned to help others. I’m sorry the video doesn’t sync up or follow what I say as most of my other videos do. But I wanted to at least attempt to help with that fight.
This fight is BUGGED OUT! The chain will not be able to be pulled quickly enough to stun the shrimp. It took me about 4 restarts before the chain actually started pulling at a rate that could stun the shrimp. After that it's one of the easier fights in the game. Just shoot/harpoon in the eyes and swim under his chest to avoid any and all punches. Sorry guys, this one sucks.
Instead of using a record that shows basically everything one shouldn't do, worst run ever. Rehearse and, while you explain, show us a video of what needs to be done. How can anyone listen to the "I'm gonna tell you how", when all you show is the "what I did and you shouldn't do".
So this cannot have “rehearsal”. It’s simply what to do unlike what I did. This fight is a pain, and though I could have restarted the game and done it again, it seemed counter productive to do that. I apologize for the lame video of me getting my butt kicked. Usually I’d just redo it. But you only get one shot at this boss and I downed him. Then learned easier ways to manage it!
bro this fight is extremely easy, the problem is that in this video you didnt pull the lever at the correct speed, mantis does 0 damage and with the dash band (better accesory in the game) it is relatvely easy to dodge the attacks, this video was poorly made, fight took 2 mins or less, did it at first try
this has got to be one of the worst designed boss fighst i've ever seen
the fact his gloves can clip through the cover shows how crappy the design was for the fight.

Spend 7 minutes to watch this video before I fight this boss…. Took me 2 minutes first try just shooting the eyes between punches.

Bad guide, sorry. Stay under his elbows for swings 1 & 2, then pull the chain as he winds up the big 3rd swing. Easy mechanics poorly hidden.
