Didn't know that shutting off the light can actually get rid of some monsters. Always thought the only reason you have an option to turn on/off the light is because the light occasionally goes out and you'll accidently turn if off again if you panic.
I think I only figured it out because the description for the lights ability in game says “it makes you more visible as well”, and decided to try turning off the lights and not moving early game to avoid the big anglerfish, since I wasn’t fast enough to outrun it yet.
A SUBMARINE expansion? With the amount of madness already present on the surface, you want to venture BELOW surface? That's the kind of insanity I like! Thinking of the possibilities is exciting!

Same here. I just finished the game this week. I played the game very cautiously and never wrecked. A few times I got into trouble, but I was able to banish or manifest out of it. This is true! I've found that most of the early-to-mid game engines aren't fast enough, but an experienced captain could definitely outmanuever it!
Another method would be to hide behind the rock from the town entrance to the cliffs. The Serpent won’t see you and move out of the cliffs
I've currently got 3 improved outboard engines so a total of 47.4 knots. Is that enough to outrun it?
