SYM Maxsym TL 508 - Performance Testing
- In the last instalment in the 2021 SYM Maxsym TL 508 coverage we are going to find out how fast it is. With a couple of 0-120 km/h runs. The strange thing is, this video proves just how fast the Maxsym 400 actually is because it can decently keep up with it's big brother. But in the end 1 extra cylinder and 109 extra cc start to make their presence known when we get into the higher speeds. Both of them are really fast but one is faster then the other.

What do you think, is it fast enough or were you expecting it to be faster?
As a Tl500 user I'm Disappointed
We want the top speed companero! 😀
super slow, as Honda Forza 350cc goes to 100km/h about 7 sec.
@@GameWinner85 measured on GPS or just on the dash?
@@KK-bx9xr It is a wonderful bike. If you are going from a 300 to a 508TL you need to be careful the first few days because it is quite a bit heavier and a difference o 24nm between the hd and the tl, the tl is 49.9nm. I was impressed with it, but as Alex said before if you are looking for a city commuter the 508 would not be the way to go.
@ soon to be 76 years old(?), Alex, I’m two years behind the curve enjoying your Sym TL 508 performance testing. Love the jury rigged phone for data info……you’re great for “use what you have” technology………(just like it used to be in the “old days”). Best you to you, family & friends. Rola (Oregon / USA)
good evening from Greece!! beautiful bike and the previous model and the one you are showing now!! I have the symphony sym symphony st200 5/22
Hello and welcome fellow ST200 owner 😁
Great video! Which app do you use for speedometer?
It's called drag racer
@@RideWithAlex Thank you so much!
What its the top speed?
Didn't test it, but why is top speed relevant? it's probably 150-160. If you want speed, anything over 160 get a sport bike, they are much beater for speed.
Salut,o scurta intrebare:
Is there a metallic sound 3.8_4.5 rpm ? I own this scooter and i hear that sound especially in this interval while driving my brand new bike.
Yes

My next upgrade gonna be this . Sick !! I am using Joymax 300X
It's a big step up from the joymax :)
@@RideWithAlex Yeah that’s what I’m aiming at … hopefully
What app do you use for the testing?
It's called "Drag Racer"
@@RideWithAlex thank you, keep the vids coming i have a 50cc scooter thinking of upgrading to a maxi scoot soon!
@@Night_Watch413 glad you like them :D
Answer: Not that fast.
If you put malossi variator and exhaust on this scooter it will become a beast..
Here is what happens with the TL 508 or 465.
It has a good chassis, good protection, good brakes, good front and rear shock rebounding, but lacks at the Engine and Transmission departments.
You can clearly see that the MaxSym 400 despite having 1 less cylinder, 7-8 bhp less, a more touring oriented and wind resistant "suit" , it's almost as quick as the TL, just because the Engine and the Transmission on the TL is not as well developed as in a Tmax for example, which has 5 bhp more, but it is noticeably quicker.
You can put on the TL 508 a Polini 12ball variator, a K&N air filter and an Akrapovic exhaust, but it still can't reaaaally be as fast as it looks.
And the worst part is the Fuel Consumption along with the small Fuel Capacity. A 12 liter tank on a scooter the needs 5,2 - 6 liters/100 kms is very small.
Do you still have it? What is the max speed now?
It was just a test.
@@RideWithAlex Yeah, looks like a good buy, but there are few negatives, like small tank and sub par performance compared to other maxi scooters. Thanks for the test!
@@under90seconds I think the performance is just fine given the price point. If you want to compare acceleration tests compare those done with GPS measuring equipment not the speedo, because the speedo on all scooters and motorcycles is inaccurate. Same goes for top speed.
Good measurements
Thank you! :)
We like your phone holder!
I do not.. 😂 Recommend always to use the SP-Connect System. But everyone’s individual choice..
At 00:30 you should say: "today is gona be a short video because this scooter is sooo fast" 😆
:)))
That phone is more stable than my life..
:)))))))))
It is comfort riding 120-140km/h in highways ?
It's stable, but I would have liked a larger windshield because I'm used to not having wind noise while I ride. I would put the big Givi windscreen on it, but then again I put a big windscreen on just about anything :))))
Check out my first ride with it because I take it on the high way up to 140-150km/h

Compering between T-Max Tech Max vs
Maxsym TL 508.
Tmax 560cc vs MaxSym 508cc
Max Power:
35kw @ 7500rpm Vs 33kw @ 6750rpm
Max Torque:
55.7nm @ 5250rpm Vs 49.9nm @ 5250rpm
Max Actual Road Speed:
185km/h Vs 139km/h
And the Price
An the price the T-max is about double.
Maybe because the scooter is new its still weak. Sometimes after few 2000km the scooter gain more power. Its strange because compare to the 500tl i dont see any diffrence
That is true, after the breaking period usually they come to life, but I test what I can get my hands on. :)
I test drove "CHUNGUS" (i.e. the TL) today! Oh it spoke to me! Buy meeeee, buy meeeee! LOL! Oh I have it bad! LOL!
🤣🤣🤣
@@RideWithAlex 8,200 euro key out the door
Maybe it needs to be "broken in" yet... My 2007 Yamaha YP400 can do 170 easy and can cruise at 160 all day long. But nice looking bike.
Could be, I said in the video it was brand new :)
@@lotterajdelgadobatista1981 sym TL 508 top speed 130km/h, AK 550 minimum 150 km/h! 0-100 AK 550 5.3 mp, (malossi variator 3.8 mp)
@@zoltanszeder1813 The AK 550 can reach around 180-190 kms/hour while the TL 508 at around 165-170 kms/hour with minimum wind and with a bit of a slope on the road.
The AK550 is a much superior scooter/motorcycle than the TL, but the bad thing is that it is unreliable and the maintenance is very expensive, especially when it is time to change the V-Belt.
Top speed ?
Haven't tried
=)))
You know, I wouldn't mind the TL being a bit slower (compared to the T-Max). I also wouldn't mind it being a bit heavier, a bit more thirsty or to have a driving chain AND a belt to replace every few years. But the TL just combines all of it. Yes, it's considerably cheaper, but you'll also get a MUCH worse resale value with the Maxsym. In addition to that, Sym really wants you to replace the chain every 12k kms, forcing you to buy the original spare parts because the sprockets seem to be a unique design.
I really would've liked the Sym to at least excell in one aspect, I love the looks of it. But as is, I'm afraid I'm just gonna save up a bit longer to get the T-Max.
still TL is just 60% the price of a T-max and I think that's a pretty huge difference.
Yes that's true. But the T-Max will hold it's value a lot better. Also, with the T-Max you'll have no problem getting spare parts in a few years of time. Can't be sure with the Sym, as they don't have the best track record with parts supply on older models.
@@Buslingthorpe depends how much you want to keep it, i can find parts for 15-20 year old Sym's no problem.
@@RideWithAlex I guess it very much depends on where you live. In Austria, we hardly have any Sym dealerships, and many shops don't really want to work on them, which is unfortunate, because as you said, for the money it really could be a good offering.
@@Buslingthorpe you have online stores like easyparts.com that have a lot of sym parts.
so it's not faster than the Maxsym 400?
It's a little bit faster in terms of acceleration.
@@RideWithAlex thanks for the answer 😊 so which one would you choose if you don't own a car and you want something practical but it should also make a lot of fun on the swiss mountain roads and have a high enough top speed for the highway? On the mountain roads we have a speed limit of 80kph and on the highway 120. So it should be fast enough to overtake but nimble enough to have fun on curvy roads. If you had about 10'000$ and you could choose any scooter, which one would you take?
@@davidschneiter9729 Well for me personally, i don't like cleaning and maintaining chains so I think I would go for the old 600 because it's just soooooo comfortable on a long distance trip. The 400 is better on a curved road and has no chain maintenance but the TL is the best of both worlds if you don't mind having to maintain your chain. So it comes down to what you value most.
Upgrade from TL500 to TL508 is not worth it 465cc to 508cc not that much of difference
Quadlock 1.0 !!!
😂😂
500cc should go to 170kmh at least
Definetly not fast enough for a 500cc!
No, Kymco AK550 does 160, T-Max the same.
It a lot quicker than 8,6 s 0-100
It may well be, but I timed it with the same phone and app as I did the others so at least you can compare it to the cruisym and the maxsym 400
Interesting. It‘s completely stock, innit? My 400cc is faster 0-100kph at present.. 😅
Yes completely stock, but check your 400 with a GPS 0-100 not what is shown on the dash. The dash lies at 110 you're actually doing 100Km/h
Thx for the info! Oh I measured with GPS as you did, pal, no worries. 😉
It’s often the same with stock setup. Scooter are often set up for „old men“. They only turn up as tough as a leather sole .. 😂
do top speed video bro please!!!
I can't do a top speed run because that really stress out the engine and it still in it's break in period. Plus top speed is over 150 and the highest speed limit we have in Romania is 130 on the highway so it would be pretty illegal on the street and I don't have the money to rent a race Trac or a runway :)
@@RideWithAlex Come to Taiwan! brother
@@AP-ic2wh Not really, for me on 2 wheels about 100km/h is the maximum speed I'm comfortable at. Any higher and I don't like for a long time it feels unsafe. Maybe just quick accelerations to higher speeds, but cruising at 90-100Km/h
Yeah I usually go on my Joymax 300x max to 100 usually within 80 to 90 .
